Since December 22nd, 2013, Sean & I have been working to renovate our Sunroom. It was time. Though, we have re-painted it twice since we moved in, the tiles that we put in back in 2000 were worn and the room needed a  ‘face lift’ in many ways.

Yet, it is very difficult doing renovations with animals and kids, especially when we installed radiant floor heating and we put it on and, the dogs took over in this cold! LOL

Below is a photo of them enjoying the new tile we laid(porcelain) with the radiant floor heating on. It has been so cold, that, even the Wolfies and Saints and Newfs are loving the floor! Makes it a bit hard to work around them to prime and paint and tile and, install a new door and a new fan and…and…and! I will be glad when it is is all done. IT has been a process. 😀

Those long legs on the right side are BHRR’s Maverick’s! He is back on January 31st for his latest x-rays to be sent off to Dr. Philibert to review.

BHRR – our ‘work in progress – we call our home ’25-life’ – sunroom – January 2014

When I got home from work last night, I was in the door not even 10 minutes and I received a call from BHRR’s Gretta’s temp foster home.

She had a laceration and the home was so distraught. I headed over to their home, took a good look at FREEDOM DANE Gretta and, then, brought her to Alta Vista AH. A place, I have been at FAR too often this month. 🙁 🙁

Once, again, a fantastic experience – if going to emerge could even have such a thing – and, as I was leaving, Dr. T. Asselin asked if I wanted an application to work there! NOW, that is a compliment. 🙂

15 staples, almost 2 cm all around debrided and subcutaneous sutures and a Vet Bill that while it was not pretty, could have been a lot worse, plus another night of zero sleep, she is back with us and will be just fine. 🙂 She is on 1500 mg of Ceph daily and Deramaxx 100 mg SID for the next 14 days.

She shall stay with us throughout her recovery(was headed back to our place as is for our upcoming BHRR ‘EXPERIENCE’ mini open house as is).

Photo’s below and if anyone,  may consider contributing to her cause, you can PayPal to ‘gwen@birchhaven.org’ (use the `gift` or ‘friends & family’ option) or email transfer to gwen@birchhaven.org. I paid for her Vet Bills between my credit card (had been working on clearing room since paying for other urgent Vet bills and for dog food) and, the monies that had been donated as a memorial for my RIP beloved heart boy GD Frost ‘T’, in memory of another wonderful GD of a friend of mine, Henry and a memorial that was sent from the generous person in honour of the loss of her own GD Carbon. Those monies were going to be used for dog food originally, and, we are down to mere days left of dog food. 🙁

When she was in emergency, we shaved another spot on her side – a small abscess.  The scary part for BHRR’s Gretta was the getting into the car to go there. AND, she even rocked all the ‘idjit’ people on their snowmobiles at the gas station(I was going to fill up today, yet, had to do it last night). She was so brave at the Hospital and weighed 49 KGS(107.80 pounds). Looking good! 🙂 She could even add another few pounds yet, is looking great!

She reminded me so much of her mama, BHRR’s Adele that we also took into BHRR back from the PRU seizure in 2011. As many are aware, we have rescued and rehabbed over 15 years of GD’s from this line. She was also so reminiscent of her granddad BHRR’s Albert and, made it clear when she was done being in any particular place. She even has the same ‘stress puffing pant.’ 🙁 She was not happy when all doors are closed and, that goes back to her days of being in the barns at PRU. She needs a window to see out.

A few staff mentioned that she reminded them of a particular GD and they said ‘Adelaide’, then ‘Annie’, then ‘Athena’ and I said, you mean ‘Adele’ 😉 LOL She had a ton of compliments on just how courageous she was, what a gorgeous name she had and what a stunning looking GD she is! THEY were correct on all three things. 🙂

She trusts me so much and I did the handling of her for the staff there, even doing her capillary refill test etc. until it was time for her to go to la la land. When they were moving her to the comfort room after her surgery, the closer she got and the more she smelled me, the more alert she became. I have two photo’s below of her still quite doped up yet, making it clear she was ready to leave. She plunked herself right on her stapled laceration to boot right up to the door and that was it…she was ready to go home! AND, when I tried to leave the room to go pay for her bills, in no uncertain terms was I ‘allowed’ to go out there without her. 😉

I am very proud of her……very very very proud!

BHRR’s Gretta – January 27th, 2014

*WE ARE STILL IN A FOOD CRISIS!!! WE ONLY HAVE 5 DAYS LEFT 🙁 🙁
OUR FIRST OF 2014* FOOD = LIFE for the animals of BHRR!
PLEASE consider our cause and donate a bag or funds for food! We thank you from our hearts for any consideration!
PLEASE EMAIL IF YOU CAN HELP US with our dog food fund/needs!

Tonight, Sean and Mason helped me removed her staples. WHAT a trooper! She was so brave…lots of treats for her! 🙂 There is one spot that is very sore for her still and, she also remains on meds – it is believed that she had some possible tube irritation(her intubation) from her amputation surgery and so, is battling an infection as a result. It can happen……

Once she is up and running(and, I have no doubt that she will!), she will have her special picnic ‘date’ with the person that won this item on her ‘Breaking Bills Bake’ Online Auction!

AND, on a side note, to the person(who really should know better for a number of reasons….) that feels that she was not worthy of us to bring in as we already have high Vet Bills(Yup! $11,000 on two dogs since January – BHRR’s Angel Noelle and the emergency gas bloat of BHRR’s Bloom), well, you do not know what BHRR does very well. 🙁 I would love for you to meet this  ‘angel’ and look into her eyes and, tell her that she should have been killed by violent means on Christmas Eve as that was exactly what was going to happen to her. As Sean says, armchair quarterbacks are going to be out there(even those that will not approach us directly yet, we will be told… 😉 ) and, we are not going to please everyone yet, ‘you’ should really know better……

We continue to state that we are not the rescue for everyone and everyone is not meant for our rescue(Yet, ‘you’ have adopted from us?) and, we will not stop assisting the special needs at BHRR and, with that comes high Vet Bills. Yes, we could bring in four or five others for the cost that it has been to save and rehabilitate this amazing dog yet, this is the niche that BHRR fills and shall continue to do so. 18 years and counting, and, we are not done yet. 😉

AND, to this person, you have not been the one paying her bills and, have not donated one penny to her cause. You have not sent one word of care or support or heart or soul. You have invested nothing into her amazing rehab. At the end of the day, while BHRR’s Angel Noelle is nothing to you, I would like to direct you to the VERY long list below of ALL those that think that this amazing pup is MORE than nothing! 😉 😀

AND, most likely, this person may well feel that we should not have saved BHRR’s Bloom with an emergency pexy when she gas bloated either. Well, I am always happy to explain(especially, *if* you had contacted me directly…. 😉 ), yet, I also know that we can only educate where we can and have to walk away when needed and focus our positive energies where it is most needed and appreciated. 🙂

Here is her latest Fundraiser being planned at the ever amazing PV Sttittsville!

2. Her second emergency Fundraiser is asking if people may consider just dropping their spare change into a cup, jar for a month to try and raise much needed funds for BHRR’s Noelle. – ‘Adding Up For An Angel’ Fundraiser – January 13th – February 13th, 2014 would be the dates!

BHRR’s Aslan is AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AGAIN!

In deeper conversation with this possible future adoptive home, unfortunately, there are members of the BHRR BOD do not believe that our r/q organization is the best matched fit group to consider approving to place one of our dogs into their place. We had no issues with waiting for the home to submit a landlord letter per our adoption contract, and, the home has a current pet that is not utd on vaccines at this time and, were going to be proactive on that front moving forward.  Additionally, in further deeper review of this application, the one person is a Student and per our adoption processes, we do not adopt out to students. They reside in a very small apartment, and, this may or may not have been in the best interest of BHRR’s Aslan. Sincerely wishing the home all the best, for they do have a lot to offer.

BHRR’s Aslan is moving under a PENDING ADOPTION! We will update his blog as we can.

With BHRR's Bloom's gas bloat and BHRR's Angel Noelle's amputation, BHRR's Torque's Vet visit was rescheduled to last night.

He weighed 46.42 pounds(21.1 KGs) at 17 weeks of age. At the rate that he is growing, he could easily top off around 100 pounds or so – cannot wait to see him mature… He is no long uber skinny and his coat is so soft! HUGE HUGE HUGE hit at KAH! He has become a staff fav for sure. I am loving those eyes the best….yup, another 'eye' dog! 😀

He was microchipped, had a full exam and we did bw. He is still battling pneumonia(he came to us with KC that progressed) and, so, is continuing on Doxycycline 100 mg BID. His lungs are still crackling.

He is eating well, drinking well and, his energy level is much better than it was. He has finished up his de-worming protocol and remains on revolution monthly.

He did not enjoy the car ride in, so, more car rides of just fun are in his future. He did some drooling and a wee bit of crying and, was sad. On the way home, I took him through a Timmie's drive-through and they gave him his very own timbit! THAT made the drive home so much better! 😉

He had a pee accident in his run at the Hospital and, other than that, was a model patient. He rocked through his exam and was a bit shy and nervous, yet, I had the staff armed with treats and his tail just went from wagging a wee bit to more and more and while, it never got up to full 'helicopter' high speed take off, it was swinging low and wide. 🙂

So, as he is still battling pneumonia, I held off on his vaccines. We shall see what this latest course of antibiotics does for him and try again in a month.

I wish I had better news for our dear BHRR’s Breen (named after a very special woman held so close to our heart and lives!)

Sadly, there is nothing that can be done for him. 🙁 He has bilateral HD(one Vet compared it to looking at ‘smashed femoral heads), a fractured right hip, bilateral blown cruciates and bilateral elbow dysplasia. 🙁 We have exhausted all efforts via three ortho specialists to try and see if we could give him any significant improvement to his quality of life. 🙁 🙁 With all of his medical conditions, he is a poor candidate for even CWW(Canine Water Wellness).

He gets acupuncture and massage and chiro treatments though. 🙂

AND, we are also managing his comfort with Ganapentin 400 mg’s BID and he is feeling really great on that along with Deramaxx 100 mg SID.

I wish he would eat more and he is such a delightful man. We are letting him run and play and be happy and enjoy life to the fullest. The boy that was in and out of a shelter as part of a cruelty/hoarding case for a year and had been returned three times, along with his siblings to his previous O., shall forever more ONLY have the best life has to offer.

He has been with us since October 7th – the last one sprung from the shelter – and, while, I know that we are on very borrowed time, I am glad that he has this very special time…………thank you again to the two groups that did not give up on him and advocated so passionately for his rescue and we remain so blessed to have been contacted to bring him into BHRR.

BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s ‘BREAKING BILLS BAKE’ Online Auction Fundraiser
*Items do not need to be baked until the Online Auction is over. 🙂
ONLINE AUCTION: STARTS January 18th, 2014(7 AM EST) & ENDS January 23rd, 2014(9 PM EST) – We have 32 items to date!

Thank you to EACH person who has stepped up to help us with sharing this request for donations for this fundraiser, offering to make an item, sending those very precious notes of support and kindness AND, in believing in this very special ‘angel’! As always, thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU! What a brutal start to 2014, we have had at BHRR. 🙁 With being in a food crisis, BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s amputation and, BHRR’s Blooms’ gas bloat. 🙁

All monies raised in this Online Auction shall go towards paying for BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s Bills.

This sweet Rottiex puppy used to live in a crackhouse. She lived a life of constant abuse and, at 12 weeks of age, she was abused, picked up and thrown. Her leg/elbow was broken and left untreated for another 12 weeks. She received no medical treatment during this time as my leg worked to try and heal on its own. I was terrifed and in extreme pain.

On Christmas Eve, an ‘angel’ contacted Gwen and, asked if Birch Haven Rescue & Rehabiltition(BHRR) could assist. BHRR immediately stepped up and another ‘angel’ came to her rescue and took her from this very bad place as ‘because I whimpered in pain’, the Owners wanted me gone ASAP and would have killed me if I had stayed with them.

On Monday January 13th, 2014, her leg was amputated and her bills will be close to $5,000 once all of her rehab is finished. She still has to have post-off follow-ups/exams, vaccines, physiotherapy etc.

BHRR’s Aslan says he is ready to make his BIG announcement! HE is now AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!!

YAY!

He can go to a home that works ft, pt, from home, semi-retired or retired. He is another very versatile BHRR Dog! 🙂

He will need a home that will be patient with him in new surroundings, especially with men, and, treats will be your biggest ally. He may not take the treat from the ‘stranger’ yet, with every offer and conversation had with a stranger with him around, he will get that much better. He wants to be loved and he does not want to be nervous, yet, he can still have a moment or two of being unsure and worried and how you handle things, is how he will react. You use a quiet ‘calm’ or ‘safe’ word and ‘touch’, and, then passively ignore, he is just fine.

He is not worried with all men, yet, every once in awhile, he can still be a bit concerned. He has DONE so well in this area, and, where he is now, it is something that can continue to be fostered via great experiences, being set-up for success with his right matched forever loving home. If pushed, his reaction is to run away. He is ready to take this next step and has done really great on all of his play dates plus play visits to date.

For those that have inquired about him being a guard dog, BHRR does NOT adopt out guard dogs. This dog is going to go to be adopted to a right matched forever loving home that will positively build upon the strong foundation created at BHRR to continue making him the best dog he can be….AND, he is one mighty fine boy! 🙂

He is soooooooooooooooo affectionate and can be very playful outside. He is always so happy to see me and, it makes my heart just blip. 🙂

He can go to a home with another dog that is that right matched personality fit – male or female does not matter and he, has gotten along with every dog he has met to date. He was a bit leery of the BHRR Purse Puppies yet, now, he is more fascinated with them and, does avoidance when they come by with their wee shark teeth. 😉 OR, he can be an only dog yet, he would have to live in an area where there was an excellent doggie network for him as just as we need our own social circles, he should too for his mental welbeing and happiness.

He has proven 100% reliably trustworthy in our home and is housebroken.

It has been such a delight to have this boy be with us! 🙂

BHRR’s Angel Noelle was doing so great up to two nights ago….. 🙁 🙁 Her new pain patch was kicking in as of very early Saturday, the edema was drained on Friday night and, she was feeling so much better and then as of Sunday night, she was not acting herself. 🙁 🙁

She had been back to acting sassy and feisty and motoring along……

By Monday mid-day, she was running a fever and lethargic and almost ‘hiding’ in the corner of the couch or under the blankets on my bed OR wanted me to hold her constantly 🙁 🙁 She is now changed to new antibiotics in case there is some brewing infection. Externally, her incision site looks great.

The Vets are almost stumped as to what is happening. 🙁 She is eating, yet, not like she was. She is drinking yet, not like she was. Nothing seems ‘externally’ out of the normal. AND, I think that scares me most for, there does not seem to be anything obvious as to what is ‘wrong.’ 🙁 🙁 I gave her subq fluids and am putting a small amount of corn syrup in her water to try and entice her and keep up those electrolytes etc. I may move to Pedialyte as another option.

Please continue to keep her in your thoughts. THANK YOU to everyone that has contributed to her bills to date. I read all emails, notes, texts and cards to her and, I truly cannot find the right words to say how thankful, appreciative and, completely indebted I am to all of her ANGELS!

Please also do consider participating in her Breaking Bills Bake Online Auction! 🙂 We now have 32 fabu and yummy items available THANKS to the angels that have stepped up to offer their talent, heart and soul to assist us in raising much needed funds for her cause!
Below is a video of her right after her surgery and a photo of her the morning after her surgery and her incision site after her surgery. I stopped counting after 57 staples……

BHRR’s Angel Noelle – January 14th, 2014

*WE ARE IN A FOOD CRISIS AS OF JANUARY 5th, 2014 – OUR FIRST OF 2014* FOOD = LIFE for the animals of BHRR!
PLEASE consider our cause and donate a bag or funds for food! We thank you from our hearts for any consideration!
PLEASE EMAIL IF YOU CAN HELP US with our dog food fund/needs!

Yesterday BHRR’s Timon, one of our miracle M&M’s finally had his special picnic date! 😉 The person that had won his date was super busy and by the end of November last year, they decided to offer(after asking our permission) this date as a special ‘gift’ to a mutual friend that really LOVES the Lion Kings for, they knew that we had been trying to close off on this date. 🙂 We sincerely wished they could have also attended yesterday – they had hoped to – yet, they were sick. 🙁 WE missed you!

Then the first two attempts to schedule this picnic date ended up with terrible weather and so, here we are to January 19th!

I have to say that it was SO worth the wait! AND, who would have thought that this incredible boy would still be with us 11 months after his arrival and was given a very poor prognosis of survival rate. YOU go BHRR’s Timon!!!

Despite, the snow and slippy road conditions, we made it happen this time! AND, this home had also, so very sweetly invited myself, Kinsley and Sir-Bounce-A-Lots to also attend for the day. We had such a great day! The time flew by and, the next thing we knew, I was rushing out the door to get Kinsley home in time to make her lunch and shower for school. 🙂

Thank you to this home for including us as part of your special picnic! AND, Kinsley plus Sir-Bounce-A-Lots had an extremely wonderful day also! Some snoring on the way home! 😉

Here is a photo of BHRR’s Timon at the play date picnic. He was in love with this one blanket they had plus this one small dog bed. He would suck on them, toss them around and snuggle into them and, then, at one point, he fell asleep with the dog bed as his pillow.

This boy continues to LOVE all creatures, big and small and, the home had many smiles watching how The Lion King and Sir-Bounce-A-Lots(our 9+ pound PRU FREEDOM Dog – a Chinese Crested PowderPuff) interacted.

I always learn a lot when I am together with this home and, it was so nice to have some ‘down’ time after such a brutal and stressful January to date. THANK YOU! AND, thank you for the bag of Dog Food plus treats! 🙂

BHRR’s Bloom is home! After having some complications on and off since Tuesday night, and, in and out of various Hospitals, she is now home AGAIN after having her pexy from her gas bloat on Tuesday! Phewwwwwwwwwwwwwww………….

One of the Vets at the emerge hospital said that if I had not brought her home originally and was able to monitor her round the clock, that she would not be with us today for, she needed 24/7 monitoring and complimented myself in being so diligent and committed to her care. This is not always possible at even 24/7 Hospitals for any animal to have that ‘sit by their side’ one-on-one round the clock attention and, something that I can do @ home. Saved her life the Vet said by me bringing her home, AND, Sean still is the one to be thanked for the originally saving of her life for her “KNEW HER” and, called me @ KAH and we got her in ASAP. NOT something I recommend for everyone to do of course…. 😉 🙂 I had a Vet on call near in case I needed anyone ASAP while I was home with her. I had several amazing folks on standby if I had to leave on a moment’s notice and Sean was not here and kids needed someone or the other animals needed something etc. THANK YOU to the BHRR Village in being there for her and us, so that I could focus 24/7 on her and on BHRR’s Angel Noelle. 🙂

The fact that she was peeved at me, means that she is feeling a lot better! 🙂 She gave me sass while I was working at KAH tonight and, she was given her walking papers and home we went! 🙂

Two photo’s of her below!

She had a bit of a rough ride home yet, within 15 minutes of being home, I was able to give her another Buprenorphine injection and she is now tucked in snugly in a sleeping bag(learned this wonderful trick when BHRR’s Abby had her own bloat and emergency pexy!) to keep her temp up and treat for shock. Sean is going to do the night watch on her(I will be in every couple of hours to check on her before I am back to work myself at KAH) as I have BHRR’s Noelle still being monitored closely. Tonight, I will change her pain patch and drain her building edema that started last night. Last night, she was restless and pacing and panting a bit and time for a new fentanyl patch for her!

THANK you to the angels that have donated to BHRR’s Bloom and BHRR’s Angel Noelle causes to date! We may have racked up $11,000 in bills since January yet, two very deserving dogs are alive and here THANKS to so many!!! Somehow, someway, we will figure out how to get it all paid off. We are back to owing at several Vet Hospitals and, please do consider participating in our first ever BREAKING BILLS BAKE ONLINE AUCTION  that starts Saturday January 18th, @ 7 AM EST!

Donations can be made directly to Kanata Animal Hospital (613) 836-2848 and they will take Visa, M/C and AMEX over the phone under the account of ‘Birch Haven Rescue’ for ‘Bloom’.

They will take Debit or Cash in person at 440 Hazeldean Road in Kanata, Ontario; I would be as always, so grateful. There are no words for how much the support given to BHRR means…..

BHRR’s Bloom AKA Ms. Dynamite AKA BOOM BOOM! – At KAH post Pexy

As of 11:30 AM on Monday January 13th, we ONLY needed another $135 in donations to make the surgery deposit for her leg amputation. $141 in donations came in!!!!! OMG! OMG! I was welling up with tears and just wanted to fall to my knees in sheer relief and appreciation TO all that helped make this happen!!! TY! TY! TY!

I have to update her angel below, yet, really wanted to get an update posted and, will get that updated ASAP 🙂 ….I was making small posts on the Ottawa Great Dane Group as well as on Twitter where I could throughout the day on Monday, yet, by the time I went to bed Monday night, I had hoped and wished to make a detailed blog post on her personal blog…….yet, I did not get home with her until close to midnight – I was off work at KAH at 6 PM and stayed with her until close to 6:20 pm yet, she was not close to being stable – her body temp was barely 36 degrees(THANK you again Brian for visiting and, helping to lift her so, that I could get more blankets etc., under neathe her!) and, just as with her spay, she was having a really hard time coming out of the anesthetic….something for when that right matched forever loving home finds her when she is ready to be placed up for adoption to note…..

I left her there for a few more hours, got together with two friends from the Vet world and after, dinner and in reviewing some cases etc., THANK you Dr. Zak for offering to come back with me to KAH to load her up to get her home. I WAS so grateful!!! It was icy and the extra hands was so appreciated.

She wagged her tail before I left her and, she wagged her tail when she saw me again. Her body temp by the time I took her home was 38.6 and she had had another dose of buprenorphine at 8 PM and I took home two more injections to give to her throughout the night(one dose was to be for 1 AM and, she was in such pain, I injected her at 12:42 AM) and, the other was to be given around 7 AM(yet, she was ok until 8:48 AM).

She had a rough ride home. 🙁 🙁 Thank you Sean for meeting me at the end of the laneway  – with the ice the car just cannot make it – with the truck and helping me to transport her into the home. She stayed with me in the masterbedroom that night and, Sean took the rest of the dogs with him and, slept on the main area on the couch! LOVE that man!

Understandably, she had a very large pee from being on fluids all day, and, it went right through the pee pad etc., yet, cleaned her up and, it was a long night for she was so uncomfortable and, I comforted her where I could and, I will always remember Dr. Liston telling me when, he did his first leg amputation for me, that something almost magical can happen in the middle of the night…..the dogs that have amputations make a ‘turn’ and it is such an obvious one….either good or bad, yet, it is so apparent….and, I waited and monitored and watched and watched some more and, I took a cloth and wet it and made sure her membranes and tongue were wet(they can get all pasty – in humans also), monitored her vitals and, sure enough…the closer it came to the sun to rise, there was a ‘change’……

By the time, I gave her her second injection, she was not in as much pain(the fentanyl patch would not be kicking in until late Tuesday afternoon as it takes 24 hours), and, when noon hit, she was up and ‘at’ her. Just incredible!!!! She ate a small bit of gastro food and drank some water and, kept me company all cozied up on blankets while I showered for work and, then came to hang at KAH for the day for two reasons. One, to have a good experience – all her Vet visits have not be sooooooo pleasant to date – x-rays, spay, leg amputation – and two, to keep my eye on her.

She was loved on and spoiled(I call her my ‘rotten baby’ as she is so spoiled by many!) and given treats and she ate some more gastro throughout the day and evening(she was holding out for the pizza that one of the staff was eating though!) and drank more….she finally had a small concentrated pee for me and, before I took her home, she had another small pee. No BM’s yet, but, that is not abnormal.

As I type this blog post, she has MADE it past the 24 hour milestone mark!!! YES! YES! Her incision looks great! It was a bit inflammed yesterday post-surgery(have some photo’s to post) yet, all marveled at how amazing it looked Tuesday. She is taking her meds, reluctantly yet, we are working through that….she even took some treats from the Male Vet at KAH! HUGE HUGE HUGE! Still timid and unsure of strangers and she looks towards me for guidance and direction and I encourage her ‘let’s make a friend’ and let them offer her treats, they passively ignore and, it is treated as no big deal. 🙂

On my way home, she had a short visit with a BHRR approved Volunteer – THANK you! – and, they could not believe that her amputation was only Monday. 🙂 That leg had so been holding her back, it is only forward looking now!

We move on to the next milestone of 36 hours!

I have to be so honest, I was so internally a wreck on Monday throughout her surgery. A Client that was at KAH tonight when BHRR’s Bloom was brought in with her gas bloat said how calm and focused and rationale I was for she would be freaking and, I said not much freaks me out yet, inside, I worry…. 😉

Before I keep typing a Gwennie novel….on to some photo’s! I even have some of her amputated leg…and, two of my fellow staff members took a video of it as yes, it twitched and pulsed for some time after it was amputated. The one video sent my way did not actually end up being received. I will ask again. One day, I hope to tape a full pexy surgical procedure and add it to the article I put together and one, day, I would like to do the same for an amputation. Graphic and detailed for many, yet, would be posted in the educational section of this website.

Her final bills are going to be close to $5,000 if not more, AND, still seeking bakers for her ‘BREAKING BILLS BAKING’ Online Auction coming up fast! 🙂  PLEASE EMAIL

Please keep BHRR’s Bloom AKA Ms. Dynamite BOOM BOOM in your thoughts and best wishes. Tonight she gas bloated. 🙁

Around 5 PM, Sean called me at KAH to say that she was not herself. He said that she was subdued, and, would cry out in pain. For all that know BHRR’s Bloom, she does not cry out in pain…she is one very strong/stoic dog, even when she had her radius curvus syndrome surgery and spay. For her to make any sound, means that she is in brutal pain.

I asked Sean to give her a good look-over for bleeding, any obvious injury – did she slip on the ice? and to feel her stomach etc.

He called me back shortly and said that her stomach was hard, painful to palpate, yet, not bloated and, she was being very quiet and laying still(not in an awkward position just still) – as, all that know this dog are aware, she is anything but quiet!

I said to bring her in immediately to KAH and, her weight upon arrival was a very solid 88.22 pounds(40.1 kgs). She was spastically happy and, Sean said almost violently affectionate on the drive in. She was moving quite well and, did not ‘appear’ to be out of the normal at this time. She was a bit tense upon exam yet, she was excited and stressed and that is not abnormal to find it hard to palpate and she showed no discomfort in being palpated at this time. Yet, as I kept saying to Dr. Marshall, if Sean says that she cried out in pain, something is wrong. X-rays were done and she had a large pocket of gas in her intestines and also gas in her stomach. She had not been pacing, drooling, panting, restless, no stomach distention, no attempts to vomit etc. She was not ‘classical’…again, I keep going back to what I tell people ALL the time “KNOW YOUR DOG”.

Another situation of a dog that was not ‘classic’ in presenting. THUMBS UP SEAN for knowing!!! 🙂

She was passing gas a bit in the exam room yet, passed a lot upon being x-rayed – first x-ray no sedation given. Next set of x-rays, she was given some torb.

So, she had gas bloated and, once a dog bloats, it is so much easier for them to bloat again and, torting is also a huge concern. AND, dogs can and do die of bloat. They do not need to tort in order for their life to be at huge risk. BHRR’s Bloom has been scheduled for an emergency pexy. As she is stable, Dr. Marshall will be doing her pexy.

When it rains it pours. 🙁 🙁 We have no right as always, to ask for any donations or assistance, yet, if any of her fans(AND, I know she has many. 🙂 ), may consider her cause, donations can be made directly to Kanata Animal Hospital (613) 836-2848 and they will take Visa, M/C and AMEX over the phone under the account of ‘Birch Haven Rescue’ for ‘Bloom’. They will take Debit or Cash in person at 440 Hazeldean Road in Kanata, Ontario; I would be as always, so grateful. There are no words for how much the support given to BHRR means…..

We are only January 14th, and, we are in a food crisis and two very urgent and expensive medical cases on our hands. 🙁 🙁 The year just has to get better…

Three of her 5 x-rays done tonight at KAH are below. 🙁 🙁

BHRR’s Bloom – January 14th, 2014

I have tears in my eyes and I type this for we now ONLY need another $620 by NOON on Monday January 12th, 2014 to reach the amputation surgery deposit!!!

VIDEO OF BHRR’s Angel Noelle Jan12, 2014

We are getting there…..AND, to all of her angels(YOU know who you are!!!), thank you! Deepest, most heartfelt of thank you’s….from each dollar to each offer and I have read every note, email, card(yes, this sweet wee girl has received cards from B.C., Florida, N.Y. and even Australia!) and text to her. Your words of encouragement, belief and kindness have meant a lot and, I think BHRR’s Angel Noelle approves for she licks and nibbles each card! 😀

We remain so hopeful that BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s village/community will remain by her side and continue to be there for her! She has a long road ahead and we have thousands of more dollars to raise, but, I continue to have faith. I just have to. AND, when she is up to it, she will need play visits and play dates, to keep teaching/showing her that not all hands are cruel, mean or hurtful.

Will keep posting updates!!!

The pathology is back on BHRR’s Aslan’s skin mass. GREAT NEWS! 🙂

It is a benign cyst! YAY! The Pathologist thought that it was likely secondary due to an old penetration wound prior to arriving to BHRR.

AND, he is recovering wonderfully from his neuter.

So, in another week or so, he will have an exciting announcement to make! 🙂 He has been a real gem to have here and, other than the brushing of his tail, he is beginning to really enjoy being groomed. 🙂 He tolerates his tail and feathers. 😉

Below are two photo’s from our traditional XMAS Eve photo shoot at BHRR! 🙂

She has not had a seizure since December 20th and she may never have another one or she may have more. There is no crystal ball and, at this time, she is not going on any medications.

Dobie Doll AKA Bambi Baby is so dear to many of us and, this is such a miracle baby! 🙂

I would like to see her in a home with at least one other dog, a home that does not have a lot of stairs, a home that works ft, pt, from home, semi-retired or retired does not matter. She is another great versatile BHRR dog! 🙂

Things that she does require is not just a ‘dog’ proof home yet, a ‘Reese’ proof home. The home that had the play visit with her on December 31st, witnessed firsthand how easy it was for BHRR’s Reese to get caught up in a lamp cord and, then managed to wedge herself through the rungs of a chair. She is 100% housebroken and 100% trustworthy in our home and while, I still crate her from time to time, for, as many are aware, I believe that dogs should be crated trained to prepare them for times they may have to be at a Vet Hospital or on crate rest due to illness or injury.

This dog has no fear, so, you have to almost protect her from herself, while as I keep saying to so many ‘not putting her into a glass bubble’. If I had ever done that, this gorgeous Doberman would not be where she is today. 🙂

She is food motivated and what she requires BIG TIME is the patience of that right matched forever loving home. Consistency and patience. If you are patient with her, she is less likely to become OCD and overwhelmed and begin to lip lick and paw the air with her front legs. She can still do this when she is excited and she has a calming touch/hold and words and she settles wonderfully.

Collars still tend to worry her so, we have been working on a harness and she is great in many ways except when she wants to go one way and, I want her to go another! 😉 Especially when it comes to the horse barn. SHE LOVES going there…AND, long grass….she take such joy from the long grass.

She is great with all dogs yet, not all dogs are great with her. Many are uncomfortable around her as they ‘sense’ her that she is not the same as they are. This is an insecurity on their part, not hers. She keeps all in the same way, with big high paws of hello! 😀

She is sassy…she has no qualms about telling me off if I am late with her supper! She is still fed Performatrin with some water pured in yet, she drinks really well from a water bowl. We hold the food bowl down until she ‘feels’ it, with her own paw and let her then do her thing. Water, sometimes gets tipped over yet, that is what towels are for!

As she listens to voices all the time, she has a special ‘tone’ – lower and very distinct that breaks wherever she may be in her head and she can then ‘hear’ …she then just needs to focus and so you say her name and the command just once and pause…..you can then say it again for she does have that neuro issue and she is so much better now to ‘stop…listen and then move’. She is not getting frustrated like she used to for she knows that we are going to be patient and communicate with her and repeat. She is SOOOOOOOOOOO proud of herself when she does what she has been asked to do! She is just so happy! 🙂

She completely loses her focus still when it comes to treats and food and, is very motivated with both yet, it is hard for her to narrow and hone in on the smell and she, can still become overwhelmed and excited(stimulated). AND, then watch your fingers! 😉

She is also sassy when it comes to wanting to play and, will come up behind me and grab the back of my pants! Sometimes, she can pinch skin, so, we continue to work on ‘gentle’….

Below is a Video from August 18th, 2013 that I had not yet posted on her blog – was on our now unpublished BHRR FB page. 🙂

BHRR’s Torque is scheduled for his own Vet visit on Tuesday January 14th. I will microchip him then, he will have his rabies vaccines and DAPP booster, do a fecal(if he co-operates), have a full exam and, I shall ask someone else to do his nails(he is a breeze though!). 🙂

Looking forward to seeing what this solid wee man weighs now. He is not uber skinny any longer and getting taller every day. He is so chill and, has discovered his ‘voice’…sigh! LOL He is becoming more and more playful and, still is a bit unsure when he is picked up yet, will settle and wag his tail. He has almost a perpetual ‘worried’ look on his face when you are holding him.

BHRR’s Reese is scheduled for another play date/play visit with me at an approved BHRR Volunteers’ home this Sunday! 🙂 Hoping for another most wonderful experience for her!

Will try to get photo’s this time to post!

She will be making a very special announcement this weekend! 😉 😀

UPDATE: Dr. Philibert called me at Kanata AH today. Dr. Parker, can come in on Monday January 13th, 2014 to do BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s leg amputation.

I mentioned to Dr. Philibert that she had been spayed a week ago and asked if this was ok. Dr. Philibert said that if she is doing well and feeling well, there is no problem and no need to wait.

So, we have less than 72 hours to come up with another $1,160 for a deposit. Please consider her cause! She is so deserving and worthy!

THANK you to all that have donated to date! AND, shared and cp and tweeted this amazing girls’ story!

We will be having a baking online auction, please email gwen@birchhaven.org if you are open to donating an item for this ‘BREAKING BILLS BAKING” Fundraiser.

A copy of the estimate for BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s leg amputation surgery is now posted below.

There shall be some revisions to this estimate – I do not use Metacam as my NSAIDS of choice and so will be coming home with Hydromorphone and there will not be a tech fee nor will she be spending a second day at KAH. I will take her home on fluids if necessary and, so bags of fluid will need to be added plus I will be taking an extra pain patch. This estimate also does not have antibiotics as I have cephalexin at home as well as Clavamox. Therefore, this estimate is quite a bit less than the $4,000 as originally quoted.

Yet, this will give her village a general idea of what her bills will be for the amputation.

It also does not include post op alternative rehab such as Canine Water Wellness Sessions either or post-op exams/visits.

URGENTLY NEED ANOTHER: $1,160 by Monday January 12th, 2014 @ Noon. Please consider her cause!

VIDEO FROM BHRR’s Angel Noelle HERSELF!

Dr. Adams from KAH talked to Dr. Philibert (Ortho Specialist) today re: her complete x-rays and he concurs with what all of us also feel.

“This is a serious bad malunion from an old fracture. There is nothing that can be done surgically that has any good prognosis for this dog. Arthrodesis is the only remote possibility, yet, we would not get a good functional joint as this is the elbow area. There would also be further surgeries required in her future including plate removal etc. If left alone, while she is managing ‘ok’ at this time, she is in obvious pain, it shall continue to become more chronic and, her ability to manage at all will greatly diminish to an extreme poor status plus, further damage will be seen on not just this leg yet, the rest of her body in attempting to compensate. Dogs can be so stoic when in agony. Most expedient thing is to amputate.”

We now await to see what the next available surgery spot for BHRR’s Noelle Angel shall be with Dr. Philibert. We have to now come up with another $4,000. $2,000 before her actual surgery date will be necessary. We anticipate that she will be scheduled over the next 10 days.

Begging, pleading and groveling is not something I am unfamiliar with and, please:

We need a BHRR’s Purse Puppy update! 😉

Both are doing well. BHRR’s Chanel is still more thin than I would like to see and I have heard from the group that has the other two puppies(PVAR that asked us to assist these two puppies), and, both of those puppies also have confirmed juvenile cataracts(which my own Vets strongly suspected they would) and a possible toxin exposure when they were with the byber(either mom ingested or after the pups were born), is still believed to be one of the top possible causes. 🙁

She remains very feisty and, not hesitate to ‘tell’ me about how she feels – usually when she is feeling UNHAPPY – LOL She is bombing along in her training of scent and touch and voice. The vibration training(we do not use collars here, yet, the banging of our door jambs plus wooden floors) is coming along as is the light training(flicking lights on and off) – though for her, lights on or off still means it is ALL about her! 😉

Until she puts on more weight, I am going to hold off on her vaccines. No rush!

AND, she and her brother still can ‘poop’ up a storm! 😉

Below are two photo’s of her from her ‘celebrity’ debut at PV Stittsville where we went to show our support and had, XMAS photo’s done with Santa! She was one VERY busy bee and, curious and not afraid of anything BUT, do not separate her for any length of time from ‘her’ humans or, her brother….. 🙂

We continue to work on her ‘being alone is ok’ and that her own company is quite nice! She has many things to say about that…AND, none of it is singing me glowing praises when I do work with her on this! 😀

AND, nails, lord…one would think she was dying when I first began to do them. Now, she just gives me big looks of disgust and wiggles(maybe, taking some lessons from HQD!) and, I often, try to do most of them while she sleeps when I am alone without the extra loving hands. I have also brought her to work to have others also do her nails, for, like all the dogs here, getting them into the hands of others is SOOOOOOOO important to me.

We are still waiting to hear re: Dr. Philibert and Dr. Parker’s findings on the latest x-rays for BHRR’s Angel Noelle. We are now heading into Thursday and, we were told that we should have heard back as of Tuesday. I know they are busy specialists, and, they will advise ASAP. 🙂 The being patient part is hard on her fans…. 🙂

Several of us are continuing to put our heads together for possible emergency fundraisers for her as we will have to put down at least 50% for any URGENT surgery and, the money donated to date for her emergency cause has mostly gone to exams, referral fees, two rounds of x-rays at two separate clinics, sedation, her spay, medications etc.

Below are some photo’s of her from December 30th, at KAH.

BHRR’s Angel Noelle REALLY could use your consideration for donations for help…..PLEASE AND THANK YOU!

ADOPTED!!!

As the home was having trouble with one of their vehicles on Tuesday, BHRR’s Prince Eggo Belfast’s adoption was pushed to today.

As I had been at their home twice last fall and, dropped off and picked up BHRR’s Prince Eggo Belfast for an extended weekend playdate, and, that the home had already adopted twice now over the years from us(this IW makes #3 adoption from BHRR from this home), I was open to meeting them halfway for the approved home to then bring him back to their place.

So, as we met in a very cold parking lot of Timmie’s…..no ‘fam’ photo done and the one member of their home was not there either.

YET, here is a short video posted below that I took of BHRR’s Prince Eggo Belfast when I had him at PetSmart not that long ago. GOING to sure miss this boy!!!

He is the 18th, Irish Wolfhound that BHRR has assisted over the last year, 17 were purebreds and 1 mix, BHRR’s Goliath.

BHRR has been rescuing, training and owning Irish Wolfhounds for almost 26 years now. We are the oldest established r/q group out there in our area that has been doing so. Sadly, this is a breed that we are starting to see some serious exploitation with, so please do EMAIL us, if you know of a Wolfie in need. Like all breeds, they are not meant for just anyone.

BHRR’s Zara-Bean is doing quite well! She is still battling the ‘terror’ of collars and leashes and, cars, yet progress is being made!

I have a mobile Vet – Thanks Dr. G! – that comes out to see her at BHRR for she is just not handling the stress of a Vet Hospital environment well. He says to monitor her eyes and, that she does not require any surgery at this time, and, may not ever need surgery. As she has aged, her eyes have greatly improved. She was once prone to eye infections as she has developed, she has not had need of any medications in many months. If/when she does require to have to have surgery, she will have it!

She is a bossy bit of goods here and sassy to boot! 😀 AND, could afford to lose a pound or two – she loves her food and those, around her! 😉

Not much that I cannot do with her yet, she will always have the ‘ability’ to fear bite if not handled correctly and, that combined with her very strong Neo(possibly Rottie too) temperament, I am even more careful not to set her up for failure, show her boundaries and, at the same time, show her that we have rules at BHRR and, she is no exception to those rules…. 😉 What a gorgeous dog!

Below are some photo’s of her XMAS Eve Photo Shoot at BHRR…took a bit of patience on my part, courage on her part, yet, we got some lovely shots of her! She is maturing into a stunning creature! 🙂

We have made the decision that based upon her history prior to arriving to BHRR and, that we want her set-up for the maximum of success, she will remain a Haven Dog either in our own home or in a right matched perma-foster home. We will continue to work on play dates plus visits to homes of our friends and approved Volunteers to keep building on the strong foundation that is being created at BHRR for her.

What I love best about her is her willingness to please and blow through her obedience and how she looks at me with trust and that I am earning her respect and how that docked tail and butt is a huge wag of happiness. What I like least about her 😉 is her taking everything from towels, to spatula’s, to shoes, to water bottles, to my purse, mitts and anything that she can get her mouth on if your back is turned….in a flash – renovating our sunroom has proven to be quite the challenge! 😉 AND, the fact that she is playful and loving and loyal to me, just makes me feel like I have won a very special lottery…..

It is a constant game at night of her getting up on the bed and me, asking her to get off and then she is up and, I am asking her to get off…. 😀

That she feels comfortable doing so, is wonderful!

We are soooo happy with Spice and so thankful for everything you did for her!

With the ice today, BHRR’s Mav’s x-rays have been postponed…ugh!

I will see if I can get him in with me on Friday. With Dr. Phlibert just back from holidays, maybe just as well. He is also going to be reviewing BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s x-rays for me.

It reveals a terrible story. 🙁 We found where the missing elbow is. 🙁 🙁 Her leg has healed in a most bizarre manner. I cannot believe the bravery of this wee thing……

All x-rays were sent off to Dr. Liston and Dr. Philibert and, Dr. Liston also said he would talk himself to Dr. Philibert plus Dr. Parker re: them. Dr. Liston does not believe there to be any success now in any type of ‘corrective’ surgery. I have inquired as to his views now re: amputation sooner rather than waiting for later. I will not be placing her up for adoption until we do right by her and that, also means her leg. As long as she was managing well, he was leaning towards a ‘wait’ approach. Yet, now, that we have the additional ‘story’ with the extra x-rays, I would like to know his professional opinion.

We also spayed BHRR’s Angel Noelle on Friday and she presented me with a nice fecal pressie 😉 and, I did a fecal test that has now come back for roundworms. So, she is being treated on an extended dosing of Panacur 2 extra days now and then again in two weeks, as she was already being proactively de-wormed.

As we need to get BHRR’s Angel Noelle stronger and in better physical shape(muscle mass), before any surgery is done on that leg, spaying her now is a good measure to prevent any heat cycle. She did not bounce back as well as we would have liked from the spay and I obtained more buprenorphine injections to give her over the first 24 hours and then on to Deramaxx to help manage her pain/discomfort. I had her all tucked in with me in my bed(yup, me!) and monitored her vitals regularly.

Once, she hit about hour 36, it was all I could do to hold her back. She is doing fabu now! It does make me a bit worried as to how she is going to handle any surgery on that leg yet, we are all in consensus(5 Vets plus myself to date) that her leg should not be left the way it is and would like to see an amputation immediately. We just now need to know the new viewpoint, based upon the additional x-rays taken re: amputation from the other ortho specialists or if they do believe there is a corrective surgery. Not something I am leaning towards and here is Dr. Listons’ most recent feedback:

“Normally if the fractured off piece is screwed back in place it heals well, and the elbow can be pretty normal.
I’ve not seen an elbow with this kind of fracture be allowed to heal on its own. There is a lot of new bone in the space created by the fracture.  Maybe Denis or Nick Parker can cut away this new bone to allow the original piece of broken off bone to be screwed back where it belongs.  My guess is they will say no, that the rest of the joint has been growing and changing shape as well, so it would not fit well enough together  if this was done.

BHRR’s Angel Noelle REALLY could use your consideration for donations for help…..PLEASE AND THANK YOU!

BHRR’s Mav says HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of his fans and friends and supporters! 🙂

He is in for his latest round of x-rays tomorrow – January 6th, 2013. MAY that Ulna on his right left be healing well. 🙁 Dr. Philibert said to wait a month from when he reviewed his last ones – Taken November 13th, 2013 (Reviewed November 21st), yet, with Dr. Philibert being off for the holidays, we held off until now to repeat them.

Below are his x-rays from November 13th, 2013 and two photo’s from our Annual KAH/BHRR Event on July 14th, 2013! Still so much to catch-up on posting here and moving from our BHRR FB page. 🙂

We are still paying of his Vet bills as the second surgery was more costly than anticipated, with the bigger plate and, with all the extra repeat x-rays that we have to do. Each X-Ray/Exam Visit is almost $900 in fees.

Sadly, the worst of his legs healed the best for, we are really struggling to get that right leg healed for him…… 🙁

HE also wants to thank his SS for helping to spoil him! 🙂

BHRR’s Aslan was neutered on Friday January 3rd, 2013. When he was being prepped for surgery, an area that was shaved discovered a small growth around his belly button area.

In examining the area, a lot of ‘pus’ came out and a pustule was thought to be what this growth, lump was. In doing a FNA, it is not pus or debris, it is far more ‘organized’ in matter and cellular make-up and so, we have sent it off to Pathology for diagnosis. Better to be safe than sorry! In conversing with the Vet, they do not believe it to be anything serious yet, for peace of mind, we all agreed that the best thing to do is to send it off for review.

His neuter went textbook and BHRR’s Aslan has been bouncing back from his neuter really well. He weighed 37.5 KGs(82.5 pounds) and, I still would like to see him with more weight on him…he is still a bit on the thin side and ever so active here. Eating is not his top priority!

He has been doing so well with all that he meets. Was a bit nervous with the one male Vet yet, not terrified…..YAY! 🙂

Such a lovely soul.

Some photo’s below. 🙂

BHRR’s Aslan – sedated and getting prepped for his neuter – January 3rd, 2014

Due to the poor weather storm system, I did not make the drive to meet his new forever loving approved adoptive home. 🙁

We are trying to reschedule for Tuesday. 🙂

BHRR’s Aslan’s bw is great and his HWT was negative! He is all good to be neutered tomorrow! Keep him in your thoughts! He is making remarkable progress in re: to his worry and fear of men and, in another couple of weeks(time to recover from his neuter plus more rehab time), he will be placed up for adoption! 🙂 GO BOY GO! 🙂

Here is a copy of a post that I made on our Birch Haven Facebook Page. For those that are inquiring as to ‘where’ the page went.

As we have many followers that are not on facebook, this is a post that can be ignored. 🙂 For those that do follow us on facebook and, missed this post, here is a copy….

This is the final post as part of the ‘end of year statement’ for the BHRR BOD….that absolute privilege has fallen upon my typing fingers…

So much to say, a Gwennie Novel that would be a Gwennie chapter to truly capture it all!!

It has been an incredible year for BHRR, 13 WOW adoptions, so many faces put to names of lovely folks near and far, friendships plus relationships that have strengthened further and increased those links on that BHRR CHAIN OF SUCCESS, new kind and beautiful faces that have chosen our cause to support and believe in, the miracles of so many that were considered by several to be ‘lost causes’, r/q rescues working side by side making an much bigger positive difference to animals out there in need, the laughs, the smiles, the fun(Yes, r/q rescue can be fun!), the public education and community education events, play dates and play visits, the fundraisers(the crossposting!) the walks/hikes, the animals plus people that have touched us to the core and made our hearts just burst in warmth and happiness, the donations of lifesaving food and, other material items, the financial hand to help pay for much needed bills and more dog food, the driving and the more driving and the more driving, and yes, the hugs!
We thank each you that has been there and we look forward to what we hope promises to be an even better year for all ahead. We are NOTHING without you…..AND, to my BHRR BOD, thank you!

It has been such a hard year in others ways, and we take those important life lessons learned and will work that much more diligently in making better decisions/choices in 2014 and onward….we are focused in letting go of the things that we cannot change and that are unhealthy in the name of r/q rescuing.
We endeavour to practise what we preach, research, stay updated and keep walking the talk!
We have cried and still do cry over those that shall no longer be with us – human and animal and, candles are lit in the most honourable plus respectful silence of those that we can no longer physically touch and talk to and embrace……We miss you and, we are better in the having been touched by you…..

We thank all those that have assisted us in not changing BHRR yet, in continuing to help make it a better version of itself! I stand up and applaud each of you and then, I kneel down in the most humblest of thanks in turn, for I appreciate each and every gesture from a dollar to an encouraging word to helping to do nails or helping me to keep making dogs more well balanced and set-up for success! You may not think you have done much, yet, you have…especially on those dark trench days….

2014 MARKS year #18 for our small r/q Rescue and, that moves me into an announcement that I have been slowly sharing with people over the past few months….

The BHRR BOD has been discussing this for close to a 1 year now….

As of 11:59 PM on Wednesday January 1st, 2014; we shall be unpublishing our page….and, deactivating the BHRR BOD account.

This was not an easy step to take by any means for we understand how key networking and social media is….this page has brought us soooooooooooo much goodness and kindness and, we go into this knowing that we shall find ourselves most likely struggling even more financially and with food needs than we ever have had to date…..13 dogs were adopted in 2013, 17 in 2012 and this page is to be credited with these success stories…..

We are a small group and like many groups, we are Volunteers and lead busy lives outside of r/q rescue and, in frequent discussions with members of the BHRR BOD, the bandwidth is just not there right now for me to keep up the pace of this page plus what so many have originally been attracted plus loved about BHRR, the detailed blogs…that is very much a ‘signature’ BHRR arena and, it has had to take a backseat more often than I would have liked in 2013.

2014, is also year of much excitement(and some stress!) in my own professional and personal life – I will be defending in 2014 in re: to my PhD that I have worked pt on for too many years now…, I am furthering my training to do more work internationally with strays, street dogs and spay/neuter clinics and teaching and being mentored….I have been invited to Costa Rica and Nicaragua and, I will also begin to shadow at other Hospitals to increase my own skill set and education with qualifications plus experience. AND, I also look forward to my time at the ES when I can get there. As a result, I shall also be deleting/deactivating my personal account. Barry, Catalina and Mary will remain our eyes and ears out there in fb land.

My priority has always been to the animals under our authority and being hands on and keeping our success rates unparalled out there….that, shall not change.

It is my sincerest of wishes that by this time next year, we can publish this page again….it has become such a staple to my day and, I look forward to coming back to post of daily tips and questions and quotes and all things BHRR plus beyond to help other groups also network their own events/animals and throw our support into their corner!

I have sincerely enjoyed sharing the ups and the downs as part of our commitment to full disclosure and that, we are only perfect in our imperfections as humans….

So, it is will deepest regret that this shall be my last post on this page for some time……..

The BHRR BOD is still trying to figure out how best put forth our requests for assistance and right now, we shall go back to using the website for postings…so, please do visit uswww.birchhaven.org for YOU are the real hearts and souls of BHRR, along with the animals…..

May love, happiness and health find their way and stay with you and yours in 2014….that is my wish for you!

Raising my glass to all of you in a toast of my heart to you!
