BHRR’s Jersey, almost 7 now, one of our stunning BBBBB’s was ADOPTED today!
It was a wonderful moment yet, wow, the tears of both unbelievable incredible happiness yet also sadness (small part) as she has been such a big plus beautiful part of our family for so long!
This amazing girl did not have one application in the whole two+ years she had been waiting patiently, us too, for that right matchedΒ home to find her…..well, it only takes one application, the right one for a dog and, it came!
They fell in love with her at the BHRR ‘EXPERIENCE’ last Sunday and, I am so happy…..
BHRR’s Pearl did so well coming out and having more helping hands show her love and care plus kindness….in time, when she is ready, she will make her own special announcement. For now, her rehab is coming along nicely!
BHRR’s Jersey did not want to leave me yet, that is understandable and distractions aided greatly for us to leave…..was not the smoothest of exits and she saw us as they walked her by my car that I had parked way down on a side street as I am typing this update but, she will be ok….she kept pulling and turning to come to my car and I do not think it was realised that it was me in the car….that was so hard on me to just be very still and quiet and, let the person walking her figure it out….
She does not need me any longer….she is where she is suppose to be for the next chapter of her FABU life!
Love you Jersey Girl!! So much…..completely bursting with joy!

What some people have never cared to understand it was ‘never’ about us turning away homes, some of the dogs have never had one application come in. No interest, no inquiries, nothing…..
Yet, we continue to be patient and only shall we adopt to that
right matched forever loving home. smile emoticon
BHRR’s Jersey was living a grand life with us and we loved and wanted her, even if others did not. AND, now she has her special adoptive family!!
My home shall have a huge hole in it yet, we can help another Dane when we are needed. We are here regardless of age or colour or sex and love the special needs!

AND big stretch…..
We are on our way!!! BHRR’s Jersey’s home-visit for her possible approved adoption is today.
Will post an update as we can!

AND, BHRR’s Jersey, one of our lovely BBBBB’s also has a special announcement to make!
BHRR’s Jersey is moving under a PENDING ADOPTION!
She weighed a wonderful 103.4 pounds tonight. 47kgs yet most likely a bit more as she was bouncy, affectionate and happy! LOL
That makes four BHRR amazing dogs pending now for possible adoptions and, two more announcements hopefully to make shortly!

BHRR’s Jersey, one of our gorgeous BBBBB’s is in her way with me to get her Accuplex(Hwt and tickborne testing done for the year). We keep the dogs on preventative year long yet, we still do regular bloodwork testing.Β
I am also going to get a current weight on her. She had a great BHRR ‘EXPERIENCE’ mini open house last Sunday.

Back in December, Fran from Global Pet Foods Bank Street (1176 Bank Street) phoned plus emailed us to inquire as to our thoughts in being the rescue to benefit from the annual Global 'Show Us Your Heart' Campaign.https://www.facebook.com/GlobalPetsBank
Fran said that they have been following some of the great work that BHRR has been doing and, wanted to direct funds raised during their annual campaign in 2015, our way.
To say that we felt humbled and deeply honoured, was putting it lightly. We feel so privileged to have been chosen by Global Pet Foods Bank Street, out of so many out there in the community doing such much needed and essential work helping animals…….
This exciting campaign begins January 31st and shall run through to February 14th, 2015
If you visit their store, you can make a donation in any amount you desire, and, you can write your name or that of your beloved pet(s) on a beautiful red heart and, it will be displayed with such pride and thanks at their store!
All monies raised shall go towards BHRR's Gretta's Vet Bills – she took a bad fall at her approved temp foster home and, we have to now repair the cruciate in her back left leg. Her surgery is January 29th at Liston Animal Hospital. It was the first surgical date we could get…….
Thank you Global Pet Foods Bank Street AGAIN for selecting our small r/q Rescue to support……be it $5 or $50 or more that is raised during your annual campaign, it will mean the world to us!!! AND, to BHRR's Gretta!
Barry, thank you SO much again for working with me on this poster. It is gorgeous!

GENTLE REMINDER & UPDATEThis event will NOW also be used to also help BHRR’s Porridge – Rushed into KAH March 19th for when I returned from being out of the country, he was not well. He had dropped 3 KGs(6.6 pounds) – he is down to 74 KGs, had a nasal discharge, flared nostrils, no temp yet, belly breathing and could not breathe with his mouth closed, had not drank anything in over 24 hours, minimal eating, lethargic, swollen lymph nodes and, could not rest on his side(his fav resting spot).

PORRIDGE VET RESULTS TO DATE: Full exam done, lungs sounded ok, did a full blood work up including a heart blood test(awaiting results, we could not use Dormitor(if he did have a heart condition, this would be not in his best interest) to sedate for x-rays and the Torb barely took his anxiety edge off(we were not able to do his nails as he needs the Dorm also to sedate him) and, we could only get the right lat for x-rays yet, the heart on that side look almost completely normal. There was no noticeable bulge or significant enlargement yet, we had to take four shots to get his full chest and lungs just of the one side and the left side could not be completed at this time. We took biopsies of his lymph nodes, heart rate was elevated. The staff there noted how poor his energy level was from his norm ‘must maim with my happy tail and enthusiasm hyper harle happy boy ‘tude’ and while, he did eat some wet canned food, he had a hard time trying to eat anything dry and could only take one dry piece of T/D that was offered to him. The Vet has prescribed Doxy for him 4 tabs BID of the 100 mg IN case it may be infection related yet, he would not be presented ‘classically’ if that were the case. Yet, we are being proactive from all angles.

He went down hill so fast while I was away and, I thank all for monitoring him and I have trusted and do trust that those that were here, did keep his best interest at heart and, did not see fit to bring him in. I was completely ok for hi to go in for peace of mind and, I had been told that he was eating and drinking well and energy level was ok, no nasal discharge and lungs were clear(one person here is a nurse). In discussing him in more depth tonight with some of the wonderful souls that were here, it was noted that a weight loss had been seen, that drinking levels had gone down and energy level had changed. He was apparently fine and completely normal up to late last week and, I arrived home on Tuesday early afternoon. Whatever he has, it is aggressive….. πŸ™

AND, in the 24+ hours that I have been home, his condition from there worsened further and, I jumped in bringing him in ASAP. Even called KAH to change his appointment to an earlier time slot.

Possible diagnosis at this time range from early heart to early lymphoma to early nasal tumor. Good case scenario, an infection of some sort.

AND, here is the PV Stittsville, Nail Trim Event Poster! $15 for grinds/$10 for Trims on Saturday March 22nd from 10 am – 5 pm, and, all money shall benefit BHRR’s Coach, our ‘heart’ boy!

Purse Puppy Coach shall be coming with me after my work shift on March 22nd,Β  – around 2:30 PM to visit and thank all those that will be there AND, he will be doing ‘KUDDLES 4 KASH’ to also help raise some money for his bills. AND, for those that have had the pleasure of hugging this boy, he is DELIGHTFUL! I may also bring BHRR’s Angel Noelle or perhaps BHRR’s Torque! πŸ™‚

On Tuesday March 4th, BHRR’s Purse Puppy’s Coach weight was 14.9 KGs(37.78 pounds)! Since his arrival into Rescue, he has put on 34.28 pounds! πŸ™‚ In just 14 weeks! πŸ™‚

I have a huge blog post to make from this Vet visit and then coming back the next day for emergency x-rays and an ECG (the results were suppose to be back within 24 hours….) and, from there, the next steps for him. I have the report from the one Vet to post and, I have passed along all information and details to PVAR who have the other two puppies and who adopted the mom. At the minimum, it is believed that he has a congenital condition. πŸ™ AND, the chances that HE is the only one in that large litter to have this condition is slim to none.

As I am heading offline for the next week+, blog updates will be to a minimum to none – SORRY! πŸ™ I am going out of the country and later this year, also plan on going back out of the country as I have been invited to Costa Rica and Nicarauga to assist/train/mentor in a spay/neuter clinic and, to work with the strays etc. over there.Β  So, I will post as I can and, thanks to all that follow the blogs!!! πŸ™‚

Now, we just have to have those right matched forever loving homes find all of these great BHRR doggies that are AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! πŸ™‚

BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s β€˜BREAKING BILLS BAKE’ Online Auction Fundraiser
*Items do not need to be baked until the Online Auction is over. πŸ™‚
ONLINE AUCTION: STARTS January 18th, 2014(7 AM EST) & ENDS January 23rd, 2014(9 PM EST) – We have 32 items to date!

Thank you to EACH person who has stepped up to help us with sharing this request for donations for this fundraiser, offering to make an item, sending those very precious notes of support and kindness AND, in believing in this very special ‘angel’! As always, thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU! What a brutal start to 2014, we have had at BHRR. πŸ™ With being in a food crisis, BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s amputation and, BHRR’s Blooms’ gas bloat. πŸ™

All monies raised in this Online Auction shall go towards paying for BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s Bills.

This sweet Rottiex puppy used to live in a crackhouse. She lived a life of constant abuse and, at 12 weeks of age, she was abused, picked up and thrown. Her leg/elbow was broken and left untreated for another 12 weeks. She received no medical treatment during this time as my leg worked to try and heal on its own. I was terrifed and in extreme pain.

On Christmas Eve, an β€˜angel’ contacted Gwen and, asked if Birch Haven Rescue & Rehabiltition(BHRR) could assist. BHRR immediately stepped up and another β€˜angel’ came to her rescue and took her from this very bad place as β€˜because I whimpered in pain’, the Owners wanted me gone ASAP and would have killed me if I had stayed with them.

On Monday January 13th, 2014, her leg was amputated and her bills will be close to $5,000 once all of her rehab is finished. She still has to have post-off follow-ups/exams, vaccines, physiotherapy etc.

Β

Here is a copy of a post that I made on our Birch Haven Facebook Page. For those that are inquiring as to ‘where’ the page went.

As we have many followers that are not on facebook, this is a post that can be ignored. πŸ™‚ For those that do follow us on facebook and, missed this post, here is a copy….

This is the final post as part of the ‘end of year statement’ for the BHRR BOD….that absolute privilege has fallen upon my typing fingers…

So much to say, a Gwennie Novel that would be a Gwennie chapter to truly capture it all!!

It has been an incredible year for BHRR, 13 WOW adoptions, so many faces put to names of lovely folks near and far, friendships plus relationships that have strengthened further and increased those links on that BHRR CHAIN OF SUCCESS, new kind and beautiful faces that have chosen our cause to support and believe in, the miracles of so many that were considered by several to be ‘lost causes’, r/q rescues working side by side making an much bigger positive difference to animals out there in need, the laughs, the smiles, the fun(Yes, r/q rescue can be fun!), the public education and community education events, play dates and play visits, the fundraisers(the crossposting!) the walks/hikes, the animals plus people that have touched us to the core and made our hearts just burst in warmth and happiness, the donations of lifesaving food and, other material items, the financial hand to help pay for much needed bills and more dog food, the driving and the more driving and the more driving, and yes, the hugs!
We thank each you that has been there and we look forward to what we hope promises to be an even better year for all ahead. We are NOTHING without you…..AND, to my BHRR BOD, thank you!

It has been such a hard year in others ways, and we take those important life lessons learned and will work that much more diligently in making better decisions/choices in 2014 and onward….we are focused in letting go of the things that we cannot change and that are unhealthy in the name of r/q rescuing.
We endeavour to practise what we preach, research, stay updated and keep walking the talk!
We have cried and still do cry over those that shall no longer be with us – human and animal and, candles are lit in the most honourable plus respectful silence of those that we can no longer physically touch and talk to and embrace……We miss you and, we are better in the having been touched by you…..

We thank all those that have assisted us in not changing BHRR yet, in continuing to help make it a better version of itself! I stand up and applaud each of you and then, I kneel down in the most humblest of thanks in turn, for I appreciate each and every gesture from a dollar to an encouraging word to helping to do nails or helping me to keep making dogs more well balanced and set-up for success! You may not think you have done much, yet, you have…especially on those dark trench days….

2014 MARKS year #18 for our small r/q Rescue and, that moves me into an announcement that I have been slowly sharing with people over the past few months….

The BHRR BOD has been discussing this for close to a 1 year now….

As of 11:59 PM on Wednesday January 1st, 2014; we shall be unpublishing our page….and, deactivating the BHRR BOD account.

This was not an easy step to take by any means for we understand how key networking and social media is….this page has brought us soooooooooooo much goodness and kindness and, we go into this knowing that we shall find ourselves most likely struggling even more financially and with food needs than we ever have had to date…..13 dogs were adopted in 2013, 17 in 2012 and this page is to be credited with these success stories…..

We are a small group and like many groups, we are Volunteers and lead busy lives outside of r/q rescue and, in frequent discussions with members of the BHRR BOD, the bandwidth is just not there right now for me to keep up the pace of this page plus what so many have originally been attracted plus loved about BHRR, the detailed blogs…that is very much a ‘signature’ BHRR arena and, it has had to take a backseat more often than I would have liked in 2013.

2014, is also year of much excitement(and some stress!) in my own professional and personal life – I will be defending in 2014 in re: to my PhD that I have worked pt on for too many years now…, I am furthering my training to do more work internationally with strays, street dogs and spay/neuter clinics and teaching and being mentored….I have been invited to Costa Rica and Nicaragua and, I will also begin to shadow at other Hospitals to increase my own skill set and education with qualifications plus experience. AND, I also look forward to my time at the ES when I can get there. As a result, I shall also be deleting/deactivating my personal account. Barry, Catalina and Mary will remain our eyes and ears out there in fb land.

My priority has always been to the animals under our authority and being hands on and keeping our success rates unparalled out there….that, shall not change.

It is my sincerest of wishes that by this time next year, we can publish this page again….it has become such a staple to my day and, I look forward to coming back to post of daily tips and questions and quotes and all things BHRR plus beyond to help other groups also network their own events/animals and throw our support into their corner!

I have sincerely enjoyed sharing the ups and the downs as part of our commitment to full disclosure and that, we are only perfect in our imperfections as humans….

So, it is will deepest regret that this shall be my last post on this page for some time……..

The BHRR BOD is still trying to figure out how best put forth our requests for assistance and right now, we shall go back to using the website for postings…so, please do visit uswww.birchhaven.orgΒ for YOU are the real hearts and souls of BHRR, along with the animals…..

May love, happiness and health find their way and stay with you and yours in 2014….that is my wish for you!

Raising my glass to all of you in a toast of my heart to you!

FROM myself, words truly do fail me with how beautiful these cards are plus the stamps AND Anna’s heart…..Thank you! THANK YOU!

From Anna G-h:

“We are delighted to announce that we have note-cards and matching stamps (domestic permanent) available with all funds donated to Birch Haven to assist in vetting and food costs. Each are 4 for $5. Please let me(Anna) know if you would like to order any. We can mail free of charge once we have received payment for your order. These are blank inside so are perfect for many occasions.”

NOTICE:

BHRR does not adopt out during the XMAS season due to our position that it is not in the best interest of any new addition being added during such a busy, exciting and somewhat stressful time for many.

Quite a few other Rescues, Shelters, Pounds etc. have also begun to follow a similar protocol to what we have been doing for so many years.

Our XMAS Shutdown period for this year is from Saturday December 14th, 2013 to Tuesday January 7th 2013 inclusive.

During this time, BHRR is available 24/7 as always for requests for assistance of animals in need.

Thank you for your continued understanding – The BHRR Team

Our 6th ANNUAL 'JUST IN TIME FOR XMAS' Online Auction HAS started! πŸ™‚ We NOW have 87 items posted – LINK BELOW – and more to come daily! This is not a facebook auction. As we have supporters not on fb, we use a wp plug-in app on our home website.

YOU have to go visit daily to see just what is there! πŸ™‚ THANKS to all that have donated so kindly, generously and the animals thank you too! πŸ™‚

The BHRR Auction began at 7:00 AM EST on Saturday November 23rd, 2013.

The BHRR Auction will end at 9:00 PM EST on Thursday December 5th, 2013

http://www.birchhaven.org/fundraising-2008/online-auction-2012

From Friday October 18th to Sunday November 3rd, 2013 inclusive, BHRR will not be open for adoptions or the intake of adoption applications.

We do not adopt out around the Halloween season and many others Rescues, shelters, pounds etc. have also begun to follow a similar protocol.

We do not believe it is in the best interest of the animals in our program, especially for dark coloured dogs.

During this time, BHRR is available 24/7 as always for requests for assistance of animals in need.

BHRR's Jersey and her story was the feature story on Veronica Sutherland's rescue segment on Jack FM last night!!

A short time ago, I received an email from the most talented and I want to say also, very beautiful and special Liz Bradley of The Ottawa Dog Blog.

http://ottawadogblog.ca/2013/08/we-won-the-top-most-influential-dog-blog-online/

As many are aware, there was a voting contest recently for the Most Influential Dog Blog online and the competition was quite tough AND, thanks to such an incredible surrounding community The Ottawa Dog Blog WON! By taking 60% of the votes!

HUGE Congratulations Liz & Jane!!! Extremely well deserved! Your blog is quite important and valued deeply by so many and you make a BIG difference daily with all your efforts! I have loved watching your amazing 'baby' grow plus develop!

AND, what so humbly surprised me(AND, made me grab yet, another tissue…this time with a welling up of good tears!), was that Liz/Jane was awarded a lifesaving generous gift of $500 donation to the charity of her choice AND they chose BHRR!! As they have posted about, there are SO many great r/q Rescues deserving and in need and, I am touched, humbled and feel privileged to have our small rescue chosen to be the recipient of such an incredible gesture……Just honoured! Immensely!

There really needs to be more words to express THANK YOU! I am MORE thank thankful! I am genuinely appreciative plus grateful and filled with intense gratitude…….

THE BELOW IS FROM LIZ/JANE:

"It was a difficult decision as to the charity who we would pick to receive the donation as all of the Ottawa charities work so hard.

We decided on Birch Haven Rescue and Rehabilitation to receive the $500 donation! BHRR is an amazing rescue who is in need of money to feed the large and giant breeds they rescue – this money will go a long way towards food and vet bills for them!

Thank you again to all who voted. I am so very proud to live in this great city surrounded by fellow dog lovers.

With love and belly rubs,
Liz (and Jane)"

**Could I please ask our fans/supporters/family/friends to take a moment and go over and CONGRATULATE Liz/Jane immensely and tell them HOW uber awesome they are with what they do daily!!!**

AND, here is what I wrote on their lovely Blog post!

HUGE Congratulations Liz & Jane!!! Extremely well deserved! Your blog is quite important and valued deeply by so many and you make a BIG difference daily with all your efforts! I have loved watching your amazing ‘baby’ grow plus develop!

As Liz/Jane have posted, there are SO many great r/q Rescues deserving and in need and, I am touched, humbled and feel immensely privileged to have had our small rescue of Birch Haven Rescue & Rehabilitation Services chosen to be the recipient of such an incredible gesture……Just honoured! Immensely!

I also wish to publicly thank Camp Cookstown from my heart, for having such a great contest, for helping to get the word out regarding so many fantastic online blogs and for supporting the work done in animal rescue with this very generous and lifesaving gift of $500.

There really needs to be more words to express THANK YOU! I am MORE thank thankful! I am genuinely appreciative plus humbled and filled with intense gratitude…….

Many are NOT going to recognize this beauty….YET, she is the one that came to me crawling on her belly and would slink and shy away.

She is the one that brought me to absolute tears of joy when I saw her playing in a HUGE Breakthrough and blogged about it on November 15th, 2012…..

AND very few have met her to date – those that saw her back last August just mere days before I could bring her into BHRR, when the family came to see us per my invitation at the CJ 'DIRTY DAWG' Wash that BHRR was so humbled to have been chosen…..and very few since then for this girl was terrified…..just terrifed….and in very poor body condition.

Crowds and people just made her cower and we have respected her wishes during her rehab journey at BHRR and have given her opportunities yet, have never pushed….

My patience and time and consistency has paid off for I have FINALLY been able to get some photos of the dog that she now is….head up, standing tall and sooooooooooo incredibly gorgeous! INSIDE and OUT!

THIS was the one that I was not sure could ever be put back together as she was so broken into so many small painful pieces….

YET, she did it! SHE did it!! This stunning creature has a very special announcement to make of her very own….

She was a wee bit unsure at first about posting her announcement, yet, just look at her! IS she not one of the most BBBBB's you have laid eyes upon!

Sweetly confident and calm and sure of herself and sooooooo freakin' affectionate! She loves her rump rubs too! She loves toys and is lovingly social!!!

To say that I am proud of you BHRR's Jersey is an understatement…you humble me daily and this journey with you has been nothing short of miraculous and something I shall hold dear to my soul for my life……….

THANK you for coming back to the land of the living and LOVING life!

A GD that has beaten and overcome SOOOOOO much! She is one of my hero's!

She is 100% trustworthy in our home, can go to a home by herself or with another one or two likeminded dogs, to a home that works ft, pt, from home, semi-retired, retired…ALL of it would work as she is another very versatile GD! πŸ™‚ Older children are fine too.

WE do not know how she is with cats!

UPDATE Sunday December 16th, 2012:

UPDATE ON VOTING CONTEST:

As many are aware from the public blanket statement posts I was making, as soon as I understood what was able to really occur with the voting in the food contest, I contacted MDB. This was not resulting in a fair contest to all r/q Rescues involved.

We have been in conversation for the last few days re: this contest and per the positioning of BHRR, we will only wish to operate with continued integrity plus honesty and no food is worth any compromising of that.

Either we all are able to vote once a day, only ever once, or multiple times daily. What was happening was not equal or fair to all involved. BHRR and it was so important that MDB be made aware of what was happening.

I am aware that they did a reset a couple of days ago to try and have people being able to only vote once every 24 hours and some could and others still could not vote again.

We have continued to support MDB in any successful resolution they felt was necessary and per their public post today, they have decided to do a reset from scratch – starting over.

I thank EACH of our supporters and believers that have campaigned so hard to assist the animals of BHRR and in sharing! πŸ™‚ No words can tell you how much this has meant to BHRR for we do go through 120 POUNDS of dog food PER DAY.

AND good luck to all participating for round two!

BHRR's 5th ANNUAL "JUST IN TIME FOR XMAS" Online Auction is ON NOW UNTIL Thursday December 6th @ 9:00 PM EST!

We currently have 122 very exciting items up for grabs! MORE being added throughout the last day of this auction! πŸ™‚

All monies raised shall go to the care of animals in need of BHRR and also assist the two new Saint Bernards headed our way!

BHRR does not adopt out during the XMAS season due to our position that it is not in the best interest of a new addition being added during such a busy, exciting and somewhat stressful time for many. Our XMAS Shutdown period for this year is from Saturday December 15th, 2012 to Monday January 7th, 2013 inclusive.

Today's 'BREAK THROUGH' Moment and it just made my heart swell up in such emotion!

As those that attended the fabu CJ 'Dirty Dawg' wash in August are aware, BHRR took in an o/s GD named 'Jersey'. The owners by my invitation came out that day to meet me, other approved Volunteers and they brought their GD along. I wish I could have taken her that day. I will never forget Maggie coming over to get me to see her.

A couple of days later I picked her up to bring back to BHRR.

This GD spent her first few days crawling on her belly in the dirt to me and as others are aware, broke my and many others hearts. I have been in these tenches just shy of 25 years and this was just heartbreaking. AND I mean heartbreaking.

This GD was not simply shutdown, she was deeply broken….and as I said to Holly/Bruce one night when I was visiting with BHRR's Concert, I worried how I could find all those broken pieces and help her become whole again. They were very supportive, encouraging and full of belief that I could help her. I sincerely wanted to believe them yet had never ever in almost 25 years ever had a dog this bad, not in my behavoural client work on in Rescue. She was very badly broken…. πŸ™

All I could say was that this GD had been 'broken' into many pieces and I worried for her….she had not just no interest in things or shutdown, she was simply put broken.

We have battled trying to get weight on, depression, confusion, lack of interest in dogs, people, toys, food etc. She was used to such a heavy hand and I am full of light loving touches and positive words, guiding loving hands and calm leadership tones.

Well, fast forward to today and this AM as I was outside training; I looked over and smiled at some of BBBBB's playing and then stopped jaw open….

BHRR's Jersey was out with them and running and zipping and zooming and playing and I just sat down, tears welling(YUP! The big suck I was) and quietly watched this beautiful creature emerging from that cocoon and tightly wrapped shell.

She was not just going through those old motions of 'eat', 'drink', 'go outside', 'come inside', 'sleep' etc., she was living and loving life and happy….very happy…..

AND one of the best parts????!!!! She came running to me on her own….not crawling on her belly or slinking. She was head up, just stunning….and I got stubby tail wags!!

AND with her actions, I also know I have 'passed' a test….I have earned her beginning trust and respect and her heart…..she was healing and had reached a milestone crossroads and decided to come to the land of the living and let me continue to help her. I am not one to want to project on a dog etc. yet, it is how I felt she was thinking and feeling. I actually felt 'emotion' from her, a personality!

While I would wish that r/q Rescue was not needed, I am blessed to do what I do everyday with such magnificent beings like BHRR's Jersey.

We have a very long road to travel yet with her health and emotional rehab BUT she shall get there!!! OMG! She shall!!

Thanks to all for reading my 'Gwennie' *mush* novel for today!!

I think anyone no matter their education and training and experience plus knowledge that 'thinks' they can save them all is not only arrogant yet dangerous to the lives of animals and to the people who love those animals.

While I worried about her, yes, I did not give up and never would YET I seriously wondered if I may have to move her to our 'Haven' Program to keep working with her to try and help her be the best dog she could be.

My wish for every dog is to have successful rehab and be adopted to a forever loving home and we take in those unadoptables as we love them too VERY much and give them the best lives ever like BHRR's Concert and BHRR's Potter……

I just worried very much for her….she really was and still is a very broken dog. Yet, she will get there, she really has touched me deeply and I want the world for her!!

AND thanks to a first rate husband and children who live with me unconditionally giving me all that I need and more to help her too!

"JERSEY'S JACKPOT" ANGELS     $50 donated to date & Bills $975.42
Anna & Peter

BHRR's Jersey's WishList:
Collar
Leash
A Costco Dog bed
$ towards Vet bills
Dino Smoked Bones
KONG Toys
Rope Toys
A Dog coat
Canned Dog Food
Yogurt

BHRR’s Jersey had her Vet appointment on Friday September 14.

She weighed a still thin 41.9 KGs(92.18 pounds) yet; this is dramatically up from when she first arrived.

I still would like to see another 15 on her at this time.

Around 110 pounds and she should look very lovely!

While she still has dander and old skin flaking away; her coat is becoming that glossy shiny stunning black!

She was sooooooooo social with everyone!! I was deeply thrilled! This is the GD that was crawling on her belly when she arrived to BHRR!

Her stubby tail wagged and she was a real trooper for her exam and vaccines plus hwt. We even managed to tackle those terribly overgrown nails of hers.

Her hwt came back negative on Monday yet; the fecal sample came back on Monday ( AND thank you dear BHRR’s Emmett!!) for Girarrdia. πŸ™

So, despite proactively and preventatively de-worming all; she still became infected.

So, on to more Panacur she is and also added has been metronidazole.

I was very proud of her!! All the one-on-one work and patience and time and understanding and consistency including structure has paid off HUGE!

I wanted to bring her to the B&F community education and public awareness event on Saturday, depending on how well she did at the Vet visit with her worries plus stress and she passed with aces!

The reason why I did not bring her is due to her having some diarehea and feeling a bit tired from her vaccines and after all the excitement of that vet visit – we also hung around for about another 1.5 hours afterwards having a wonderful visit – and so, left her at home on the Saturday.

This girls was really broken in many ways and she is going to make it!!

She is going to be great in a home alone or with another dog that is a right matched personality fit; a quiet home yet; one that will keep her social development going strong.

She is fully housebroken and her new forever loving home when she is ready; can be one that works part-time, full-time, semi-retired, retired etc. all works!! She is quite versatile that way.

She has become quite affectionate and is an independent dog too as you can tell she has spent a lot of time by herself. πŸ™ BUT, she is getting better and better about asking for love!

She is that mature girl. Not a jumping, barking, destructive puppy yet; can be playful too! πŸ™‚

Her docked tail can sure wag and many find it cute. I find it sad that it was docked…..

We did a skin scraping on one spot that still had not had the hair grown back and no mites were found. She is also on revolution which would be the one treatment for dΓ©modΓ©ctic mites.

As several are aware, I was soooooo worried about this girl and one approved Volunter told me recently, that I would ‘reach’ BHRR’s Jersey and bring her back and honestly, I was not as sure. She really was ‘broken’. She was not withdrawn, not catatonic, not turned inward or shutdown; she was broken…. πŸ™

BUT; she has found her way and those broken pieces are coming together and healing.

Love you BHRR’s Jersey!! You are a really nice and strong girl and sweet!! I am just starting to ‘see’ you and it is an absolute pleasure to meet you!!

BHRR's Jersey & BHRR's Scarlett have had their vet appointments cancelled and I shall reschedule them when I am at work on Saturday. With the pressing case of BHRR's Concert, I have just postponed their visits for a wee bit.

BHRR's Jersey has been full integrated with all the dogs here.

She is slowly becoming more confident and sure. She is housebroken, very quiet and she is beginning to make some canine friends – she likes my 8+ year old Cherokee and she loves to trot after BHRR's Emmett and BHRR's Bunker – not really a prey drive; just more curious and getting excited about their fun.

She is also very slowly putting the weight on that thin frame of hers. Her coat is already looking better.

I have her scheduled to go into the Vet this Saturday August 25th. We shall do a HWT at that time as well.

This girl is going to steal some hearts! I know she has already done so to mine! πŸ™‚

UPDATE:

she is here and as those that saw her on Saturday can attest to – she is quite thin, a coat that needs some love and in sore need of a nail trim and has two healing areas on her body.

When I picked her up, she was outside in their yard and when the gate was opened she took off in a playful youthful romp. I was told that she is not let out of the yard and I was worried that she would run on to the road. I called her back and she came back to me. The Owner did not seem worried and maybe I was being a bit too worried?

She happily came to me to the car and off we went. I thought that things would be more stressful for her and the home with good-byes; yet; nothing. She was quite content to leave with me and the home was content to see her come to BHRR.

In the car when I would reach back to touch her face, she would close her eyes and wince every slightly.  I shall also look into her mouth to be sure that all is ok on that front.

What really did break my heart though was when I did get home; I let her into the fenced in yard and when I called her back after a few minutes, she did come to me…………yet; she came to me crawling on her belly………….words just cannot come properly to tell everyone how that made me feel. She was drooling and crawling. One of those times that you just want to scoop a dog up and hold close and whisper so much into their ear. Yet, the best and proper thing was 'no glass bubble', calm word of reassurance, a word or two of praise for listening, a gentle pat and hooked on to the leash I brought with me when I picked her up and walk her in a passively ignoring position and style to inside the house.

She did not eat for me until a few hours later as I was sitting working on my main computer and from there she drank and relaxed. She spent some time just laying on a bed beside me as I worked and I took her outside a couple more times before I crashed for a few hours. Another one that bonded really fast to me and being careful not to create any SA behavours. She had a good night and good Wednesday.

Today, we shall do some integration. BHRR's Cosette and BHRR's Jetta seem to be the two biggies 'nosey parkers' with her! LOL BHRR's Jersey is just not sure of all things around her right now, so nice and slow…easy and baby steps. A whole new life awaits her and we have lots of time to go down the path of discovery of so many wonderful and exciting things for her future which shall then become her present. πŸ™‚

I am going to keep her at BHRR for a bit, get her settled in and then take her to KAH for an exam and other vetting.

I shall add more later yet was talking to some that I work with at KAH about her on Wednesday.

BHRR's Jersey – Approximately 4 year old GD with a partially docked tail from a tail injury sustained in December 2011. She was originaly adopted about 2 years ago by the one O. from a H.S. and as they are now expecting their second child, they would like for her to have a better life than what they believe they can currently provide for her.

Another BBBB!

Coming to BHRR the week of August 12th, 2012 – Plans have been made to bring her in Tuesday August 14th.

The home had contacted me awhile back asking for our assistance with placement and they wanted to be assured that she was going to a highly reputable/quality program. We gave them a lot of information to assist them with their research of BHRR(as we are so aware, there are some really disreputable Rescues out there); invited them to to join our BHRR FB page, the Ottawa GD group that I am the Rescue & Behaoural Advisor on and to pass along up to 300 references. The home was also encouraged to read our guest book enteries.

BHRR has been around since 1996 and we are a small Rescue and it never about quantity, it is about quality. Our adoption success rates were 100% for over 10 years of operating and we are now 99% in our 16th year.

We have Volunteers that have been with us since our inception and have quite a few that have joined us along our many years operating. BHRR only associates plus asupports where we can, whom we believe to be some other highly r/q and few plus far between organizations and offered up contact information to also help them research more on BHRR. BHRR feels it is very important for people to feel comfortable about the choices/decisions they make and believe in full disclosure.

I also invited the home to come on out to the August 11th Fundraiser being hosted by Critter Jungle to meet myself(Sean & Kids left to go back home after they helped set-up and after Sean washed the first doggie – BHRRs Kyo!) and I had the pleasure of meeting them plus this GD We spent some more time having a detailed discussion and after she received a bath, we began our first arrangements to have her come into BHRR.
