Good NEWS: BHRR's Autumn Update: just received word that her x-rays were reviewed and she IS a candidate for surgery on her cruciates!! Yay!

Per Dr. Liston:

"On the lateral view of the stifle I can see excess fluid in the joint, but at least there appears to be minimal arthritis there already.  We could tackle the worst leg first, and if needed the second leg a month or so later.  Mostly at this point we need to know that she is improving in her health , ie, gaining some weight etc.  If you want me to do an extra capsular repair, I will order in the extra strength nylon and crimps, that should only take a few days to arrive."

The bad news is that we are still trying to figure out the non weight gain problem and she is lactating even more now than her second and even first vet visits. We will repeat u/s and x-rays of needed re: possible pregnancy yet, her vaginal swab indicated diestrus. The thought process is still a false pregnancy and it is taking all her nourishment. The poor girl does not eat well to begin with.

Keep those positive vibes coming and please do consider making a bid in her 'EMERGENCY' online auction. Two more items added recently and tonight, I added a DNA MY DOG kit and a Spa Certificate for $50! Check back daily for all the new items!!
*If you are having trouble seeing the auction, scroll to the very bottom of the page or try a different browser*

Her cruciate repairs shall be over $6,000 and she also needs to still be spayed when she is healthier. Her current bills are already over $3,000 and we continue to treat her eye infections and UTI infection etc.

We need 'please put on weight' positive vibes and 'please eat' positive vibes……

Her blog continues to be updated for those wishing to follow her progress.

Thanks everyone for helping us give her this best chance possible for a wonderful future!!

UPDATE: October 31st, 2012 9:00 PM

Had a nice long conversation with Dr. Liston when I was at LAH today with BHRR's Spice.

Wonderful insight given and a 'plan' has been made. Will update her blog ASAP. :)

He did verify that it shall be three surgeries she needs and you lovelies have given me a great next 'emergency' fundraiser to promote for her mounting bills!!

Thank you!!

Per Dr. Liston, he is thinking that her uterus is having some sort of hormonal in-balance and that is quite possibly the reason why she is not weight gaining and also when dogs are in a heat or in a false pregnancy, often their appetites are not normal. This is very true….very true! He feels that with what is happening with her hormones that perhaps spaying her sooner rather than later(if we can at least get even a few pounds on her first) is going to help her gain weight and would end any false pregnancy symptoms, stop the lactating, stop her body taking all the nourishment and taking it to care for these nonexistent babies and what Dr. Liston is saying makes perfect sense. He feels that with all the testing we have done and the u/s and the x-rays(still have to post!), that we have covered everything and then some, including x-rays of her chest and belly to rule out any Cancer having metastasized.

Dr. Liston feels that as long as she remains unspayed, if there is uterine problems(AND at such a young age) that things are not going to improve for her. 🙁 Dr. Liston also stated that spaying her should help with her UTI battles that we are still having.

So, I am working even harder to get her to eat and am offering her food every 4 hours for 6 meals daily – the 8 meals was just not of interest to her and she still still picks at her food. 🙁

SOOOOOOOOOOOO, per Dr. Liston, we shall spay first and then do one cruciate and then the next a couple of months later.

UPDATE: October 31st, 10:00 PM

Just HAD to share…my most exciting update re: BHRR's Autumn.

She ate and I mean ate…her first real and awesome bowl to date! I am still offering her small meals every 4 hours yet, she has picked at the food and I have been trying to figure out her food allergies.

Well, 'Gwennie' thinks she has found the magic potion and mix!

She is now on FROMM Salmon and I am mixing many tiny small amounts of FROMM wet in with the the FROMM kibble and tonight she almost finished what small portion I put in her bowl…sigh of relief and excitement!

Now, tomorrow could change but for tonight, I am taking this as a huge plus!

Just going to update her blog now and her 'EMERGENCY' Online Auction shall run through until 10 PM on Monday night.

From there, a most unique two week 2nd 'EMERGENCY' Fundraiser shall be hosted for her.

She has three surgeries ahead of her – a spay and two separate cruciate surgeries and this is in addition to her almost $3,000 bills to date that have been racked up.

For the first time, I truly feel more than hope for her, I feel really positive for her! Please keep up those great vibes of positiveness!!!

Thanks!!!

Boo! 🙁 The vet has confirmed that BHRR's Spice's one eye did not 'take' and we need to re-do the surgery. 🙁 Dr. Liston said to re-do sooner rather than later before the 'pocket' made fully heals.

So, she is back on Friday November 2nd, 2012 for another surgery.

Think of her!! Lots and lots and lots of 'good eye' thoughts please!

Her weight is now 20.3 KGs(44.66 pounds). YOU GO GIRL!

I sent an email out to the home that has Abby right now as I was worried about 'Sandy' hitting the area hard and how it would be affecting her.

Here is the response:

"Abby did well last night and is in good spirits this morning.

She likes the food you gave us for her.

I got in the dog house last night to see how much wind could get in.

Surprisingly the baffle stops the wind and keeps the dog house air quit still.

We will keep you informed the rest of the week."

BHRR's Lizzy decided that I was not having enough Vet visits and I had to bring her to work with me today.

I suespected a ruptured saliva gland and it appears like she may also have a hematoma too. Silly wabbit!!

So doxy 100 mg for 28 days and Deramaxx 100 mg after having a cytology and in draining…..

Keep her in your thoughts and send nice healing vibes!

BHRR's Velvet shall be having her presurgical bw and exam and to receive her Vaccine boosters on November 13th.

She is the scheduled to have her spay on November 19th, 2012 at this time. This shall be a mature spay for she has had at least one heat. I continue to feel that she is no more than 3 years of age.

BHRR's Blossom was spayed today. She weighed 41.0 KGs(92.18 pounds)!

In spaying her, we could confirm that she was mature from most liking having had a heat just before she entered the shelter. Her uterus indicated at least one heat and that it was not in the too distant past yet, she was well into a safe period to have been spayed.

AND in being 'sympathetic' to BHRR's Autumn, she was doing some small lactation herself with the beginnings of a false pregnancy.

Her spay was routine and went very smooth.

Below is a photo from her spay today (October 29th) and one is a photo taken from her outing with me on Saturday (October 27th) with my daughter and we had some Halloween photos taken!

Once she recovers from her spay, she shall have some more social outings of play dates, day trips etc. and when she is ready, then be placed up for adoption!

I have an appointment set-up to see Dr. Liston at LAH for 4 PM on Wednesday to re-visit BHRR's Spice's one eye. 🙁

I Love Your Update List

Besides the fact that I love your rescue and the enormous amount of experience and knowledge behind all your actions, I love the list you have been using for quite a while now that shows the current “adoption” status of all of your adoption possibilities. That is a great idea. Just another one of the many you have. My best wishes, as always. xxoo to all the dogs, too. Merrilee

Hi, I'm new to your site but have 3 of my own Danes-2 rescues 1 special needs I will mosey along your info untill I find what I want which is coats! Just wanted to say hi- will come to the next walk. Mary

BHRR's Blossom – October 2012

***SOMEONE is NOT reading her memo re: the no human leather furniture rule at BHRR!*** cheeky

LOOK at all that sand she decided to 'share' with us!!!!

She is to be spayed on Monday October 29th and from there, have some more playdates out of BHRR and should then be ready to be placed up for adoption!

On Saturday October 27th, she came out to visit a Petsmart and two Pet Valu's and plenty of wonderful folks and did FABU! People that were patient and understanding and let her come to them, were rewarded with kisses and leans and trust. She even had a Halloween photo done. 🙂

Her leash manners fluctuated between awesome to good to 'social spazzness.' We shall continue to work on that! 😉

This is a photo of BHRR's Autumn on Saturday October 27th, 2012.

The 'white' at the edge is a sheet that she likes to have placed over her and yes, thanks to BHRR's Blossom, she has tried to stay all snuggled up on the couch! She has her own memo to read….. 😉

I am still awaiting to hear back from the specialist re: her cruciates and if she is a possible surgical candidate. I have all her x-rays via email now and shall post them as I can.

She has also decided that she shall no longer eat the FROMM Whitefish, so we are working on the FROMM Salmon now.

She will be as much as, if not more to rehab than BHRR's Ava Marie who came into BHRR, who was successfully rehabbed and adopted! :) I believe in her and I am hoping that the community shall as well and help us help her!

BHRR's Autumn – October 27th, 2012

I shall be making an appointment to bring BHRR's Spice back into LAH for her one eye is not better and in fact, it is much worse. DARN! 🙁 I am going to try and get her in on Wednesday for I have to be at a meeting that afternoon as is.

We still owe almost $400 at Liston Animal Hospital alone if any of her fans and believers would like to donate to her bills directly:

'Abby' is a Great Dane that was picked up after being on the loose for almost a week along with another dog. I was contacted last Saturday – October 20th, 2012 to assist yet, until BHRR has more adoptions, we cannot bring in more dogs; regardless if we even have a temp foster approved home step up.

This Great Dane is currently outdoors and I have been to visit her twice and have brought a dog bed, a chilly dog coat( like that these coats have the belly and chest piece), revolution and have provided the eye meds that she needs for her eye infection treatment. She also has a dog house. The home is ensuring that she is fed the proper food and has touched base with me regarding the best food and amounts to feed her.

As the weather gets colder and until we have a spot ( no other place would take her after inquiring and she would be high risk to be pts at a pound due to her current unadoptability status and that we would have been one of the r/q places contacted and we have no room right now), this is where those that found her have her kept.

Before anyone judges this home, please note that they spent three days trying to catch her and the other dog and that they tried to bring her inside their home yet they have two others dogs and things did not work out. THIS home ROCKS! 🙂

I have shredrow foal coats yet they are all too big and the coat that I did give for her that is an awesome size Chilly Dogs one is not going to handle the colder temps coming fast.

There is no crystal ball that will say when we shall have that spot and we cannot compromise the integrity of our program and the dogs we already have by taking in 'just one more'. I am doing all that I can to take care of her plus with Vet guidance and the amazing co-operation of this home. I promised this dog and this home that she would be the next I would take right into BHRR.

She has had a tough life……I have not slept since I first contacted about her and shall not rest well until we do have adoptions that will allow us to bring her fully into BHRR.

There is no crystal ball as to when we shall have that spot and I do not want her pts. She can be a wonderful companion to a great home once she is finished being rehabbed both medically and emotionally. She deserves that……

AND my by-law is very much aware of what is going on and has been kept in the loop re: her and been very supportive of resource sharing.

She is also being treated for ear infections and has a small wound in one ear.

She is so blessed to even have BHRR SS for even if she is not yet at BHRR by then – praying that she shall be! – she is still very much a GD deserving of a wonderful spoiling and in just two visits with her to date, I feel and treat her as one of the BHRR 'fam'.

She is a small female, black with white( yup! Another BBBBB) GD that has had a really hard life…..

Please keep her in all your positive blessings and thoughts. AND that the weather stays as warm for as long as possible. The nights worry me right now with how cold they are getting…..

I will keep giving her all that I can and take care of her from afar with the home she is with until we can get her here…..

UDPATE: October 27th:

I am going to see her tomorrow for her eyes are not improving with the ointment and she will start antibiotics that I will bring.

I will also drop off a dry dog coat for her and also a bag of FROMM food that I bought today as the home is running low. I shall also bring another dog bed.

I will take some photos for the blog I shall start for her.

She is doing well otherwise.

Have looked at solar type devices for heating and am further investigating it and Sean also uses a special construction type unit in his workshop yet never unsupervised. Do not wish to have any fire hazards or cord hazards with heaters.

Sean and I are continuing to work something out for her to be in a house until we have room at BHRR.

The home is calling her 'Abby' and I am seeing her again in just a few hours! I thInk of her constantly and shall not rest until she is with us…..

BHRR does not have a spot regardless if it is in our home or an approved temp fosters. When I founded BHRR back in 1996, numbers of max. that BHRR could take at any given time and depending on how many were medical cases etc. was set. I will not compromise and cannot compromise the integrity of the program's of BHRR.

So, thank you to those offering to temp foster yet, we do not have a spot at this time for one of our current successfully rehabbed dogs that are now up for adoption or a 'emerg' temp foster for her.

AND she is not aggressive. This GD lived a very rough life. The home has two 6 month old dogs, one a male and she is an unspayed female. I do not blame her for beig cranky at not wanting to get mounted and rough housed with. The two dogs they have are not accepting of her more mature status of life.

UPDATE: October 28th, 2012:

This is 'Abby' with Sean – The stray GD picked up with an Airdalex on Friday October 19th, 2012 that had been on the loose for almost a week.

Sean came with me today to visit with her and to bring over more items – a bag of FROMM Whitefish, a spare Chilly Dog Fall Coat, another rectangular Costco dog bed and antibiotics.

Since I last saw her, she has put on weight, is so much happier and was doing really really really well!

The home is calling her 'Abby' right now and she sits and is very friendly and I was so thrilled by the improvement.

She is the very next GD on our waiting list to assist and may we get her into BHRR before the snow flies

I am working on starting her blog now and have two videos to add.

I really was so impressed with the mass improvement she has had in the last week. Her ears are clearing up, her eyes look so much better, the weight gain and her personality has just really started to come through.

I checked out her dog house and it remains insulated and very dry and now has a wind type barrier on one side too.

Thank you to this home for taking the best care they can of her and for taking the three days to build up the trust of her and her female companion(the parents of the woman took her as one of their own once her stray period was up) to catch them and provide them a safe haven and in contacting BHRR for assistance.

'Abby' with Sean – October 28th, 2012 – She is loving the fall Chilly Dog Coat I gave her

UPDATE: October 25th, 2012

She weighed ONLY 48.6 KGs(106.92 pounds) at Kanata Animal Hospital last night. She has ONLY put on .5 of a kg since she arrived. :( This confirms my fears/worries that she is NOT putting on the weight as she should be. WHY? The question is why…..is it pain? pregnancy? cancer?

So, she had another head to toe exam – lungs and heart sound good – X-rays confirmed no cancer found at this time in the lungs or chest etc., she was sedated to do the x-rays for as good as she is, we also needed to x-ray those knees. She had a Flurorescein eye stain done – conjunctivitis confirmed so on meds and yes, the entropic eyes, to continue with the Clavamox for her UTI, her KC is almost gone(YAY! for some good news for her!), got a much better look in her mouth(dorm/torb is great stuff! ;) ) and nothing appears to be obviously chipped or broken – shall investigate further when she is spayed, she had a manicure/pedicure, FNA – and she is lactating – Colostrum and milk present this week over last and the FNA pulled out milk. Those 'growths/lumps' are actually milk pockets. We are doing slides of them to confirm that we are not looking at anything else too. The strange thing is that the milk pockets are not around the nipples, they are above and this also confused the Vet that saw her last night, same as last week plus myself.

We x-rayed for babies – none seen(too early?), we did an U/S and nothing seen(too early?) and we also did a vaginal swab to see where she is during her cycle.

Did she have an re-absorption of a litter? Is this a false pregnancy? She is so emaciated, she cannot handle being spayed now if she was in an early or any stage of pregnancy and she is so young plus her life is at risk if she is pregnant as she is just skin/bones. Is this why she is not having a weight gain? Babies taking all the nourishment?

We x-rayed both knees and it does appear that my concern re: her cruciates is confirmed. It appears that she has two blown cruciates – right worse than the left. I am waiting to receive the x-rays to forward on to Dr. Liston for review. Is is pain that is not enabling her to put on weight? Her hind end is so lacking in muscle and yes, she has muscle in the front end yet, is that also from really compensating to keep a lot of weight off the hind end? Her hips are not great……

She has been de-wormed and is on Revolution and shall be de-wormed again next week and if need be, put back on Metronidazole. Still waiting for fecal sample. Her bw did not indicate parasites and she was proactively/preventatively de-wormed as we do with all the dogs at BHRR.

She shall remain on Deramaxx and she is not a running, crazy girl to begin with, quiet walks and lots of rest as we review with the Vets her next steps. She cannot have any surgery right now though…..and if she does require both cruciates, one shall be done and then another. Per the X-rays, her cruciates have been this way for some time, the poor thing….. :(

She also had a hard time getting back up after the quick reversal Antisedan was given. Her appointment was at 6:50 PM and I left KAH at almost 9:30 PM last night. Her temperature also dropped….

Her Vet bills to date are close to $3,000 and she needs her fans plus supporters to believe in her and to consider assisting her along her road to health. We may have to do some emergency fundraising for to repair both of those cruciates is giong to be $6,000 if not more.

She will be as much as, if not more to rehab than BHRR's Ava Marie who came into BHRR, who was successfully rehabbed and adopted! 🙂 I believe in her and I am hoping that the community shall as well and help us help her!

BHRR's Autumn – chiling before her Vet apointment and then on the x-ray table after sedation – October 24th, 2012

BHRR's Autumn – after sedation and looking positively ADORABLE – LOOK at her tongue! October 24th, 2012

From Friday October 19th to Sunday November 4th inclusive, BHRR will not be open for adoptions or the intake of adoption applications.

We do not adopt out around the Halloween season and many others Rescues, shelters, pounds etc. have also begun to follow a similar protocol.

We do not believe it is in the best interest of the animals in our program, especially for dark coloured dogs.

During this time, BHRR is available 24/7 as always for requests for assistance of animals in need.

BHRR News UPDATE for Wednesday!

1. Please think of BHRR's Spice Girl today – she is having her cherry eyes surgically addressed today….plus, having a recheck on her spay incision for she seems to have had an allergic reaction to the sub sutures.

Donations to her bills for today(THANKS from my heart for any consideration! Even $5.00 is not too little!) can be made direct to Liston Animal Hospital (613) 591-0966 Her Vet Bills to date are almost $1,600 before her surgery today.

2. I am bringing BHRR's Autumn back into KAH. We need to re-visit those growths/lumps and I am not feeling good about where she is at with weight gain and overall health. I am worried about her. 🙁 PLEASE keep her in your positive thoughts too!

Donations to her Vet Bills can be made direct to Kanata Animal Hospital (613) 836-2848 for anyone else that would like to be an 'Autumn AWESOMEFIED Angel' Her Vet Bills to date are almost $1,800 and she has yet to even be spayed etc. due to her emaciated state.

***For everyone that has supported the BHRR animals and continues to do so, I humbly remain yours truly and am sincerely blessed to have this very generous plus kind support. AND even if a $1, $2 or more cannot be spared, just the notes and emails, texts and calls plus cards of kindness plus belief that are sent our way daily, MEANS the world and that keeps us smiling on days that one would otherwise cry……***

You can donate direct to her Bills at Liston Animal Hospital by calling (613) 591-0966 or in person @ 4055 Carling Av Kanata  Kanata, ON K2K 2A4

She could really use some more supporters/angels and all day tomorrow – Wednesday October 24th, we are asking if anyone could even donate $5.00 to her Vet Bills while she is in surgery. EVEN $5.00 would make such a difference.

BHRR as a special needs Rescue always has huge vet bills yet, right now, with so many medical cases including still to have to do 7 more mature spays/neuters, our bills are just massive.

OR you can continue to donate to her bills at Kanata Animal Hospital for we still owe almost $1,400 on her bills. THANK YOU to all that will consider assisting her! 🙂

I am bringing BHRR's Autumn into KAH tomorrow at some point. I am not feeling good about where she is and where I wish and feel she should be at.

Two of those growths are bigger and while I know that she is still emaciated, they need to get biopsed. 🙁 Colostrum can be seen from several of her nipples this week over last.

She is not eating the way I would like to see, she is so roachy and looks uncomfortable a lot of the time, her back end is quite stiff – especially with the cooler weather and my instincts plus medical education/experience are telling me that she has to get back into the Vet ASAP. I am worried about her weight…. 🙁

She appears to be favouring one side on her hind end more than the other even more now as the colder weather hits ( cruciates? ) and she has been on Clavamox for her UTI plus KC that she arrived with. I want to be sure that her KC has not deteriorated. In her poor condition….. 🙁

So, we are going back in!

She really really really needs her believers and supporters to stand by her. Please keep her in your thoughts and please do consider helping us with her bills.

GUESS WHO?!!!! BHRR's Blossom! 🙂

She weighed a stunningly gorgeous 41.8 KGS(91.96 pounds) at KAH tonight! This means that she has put on 34.96 pounds since she was first rescued! 🙂 I would like to now see another 5+ pounds on her for the age/bone substance she has now that she is also a bit older than when she first arrived. She should look marvelous hanging around 100 pounds as a small female GD. 🙂

She was vaccinated, microchipped, had a HWT, did her presurgical bw, full exam(THUMBS up!) and a manicure/pedicure.

SHE was super! She was so excited to enter the hospital! So excited that she ran right into the glass doors! POOR sweetie!

She was a bit shy with my fellow KAH lovelies, yet, t

ook treats and did really well! She liked the liver treats the best! She stood up tall, was curious and calm and wagged her tail! NO longer is that terrified girl that took days for someone to be able to touch her.

She is to be spayed on the 29th and after that, some out of BHRR 'playdates' and then be ready to be placed up for adoption!

Sarah shall be her very first date! 🙂

If anyone else is interested in hanging with BHRR's Blossom and I for a bit, please EMAIL!

SHE is still in need of fans and sponsors! She had an almost $500 bill tonight and she has yet to be spayed and it shall be a mature spay. Please consider helping us to help her!

Small VIDEO from tonight! She is looking fabu extreme! 🙂

BHRR's Dozer UPDATE!

He just made some more friends this week! He is now fully integrated with BHRR's Autumn, BHRR's Canvas, Brick and both of my bluez boyz……

He and Brick LOVE LOVE LOVE to rock the yard together! 🙂 He is now fully integrated with all the dogs here but two, my class clown Sir Maestro who is often away showing and my 9.5 pound Sir-Bounce-A-Lots.

If a person does a slow introduction to BHRR's Dozer, he is FABU extreme with all women and dogs to date! I still would not have him around dogs under the weight of 25 pounds at this time BUT he is getting there! He is no longer so terrifed of those small dogs and their erratic, spastic movements do not seem to focus him the way they once did. YAY!

Just a couple more out of BHRR social dates with 'strange men' and he should be ready to be placed up for adoption! HE has rocked his rehab journey! WTG BIG BOY! 🙂

Here are some photos of BHRR's Autumn from October 22nd, 2012. This is ONE week post-arrival to BHRR and I still cannot quite capture in photos JUST how poor her body condition is. 🙁

Very tragic.

It is important for people to understand that this type of abuse is out there, even closer than they may realise/think and we must work together to effect positive change for those that cannot speak and defend themselves.

This is why BHRR is here, to help special needs dogs like them. AND we cannot do it without the support of our believers and I reach out in THANKS again to each of you! smile

BHRR's Autumn – you can see all her ribs, bones on her back and hips – October 22nd, 2012

Here is one VIDEO taken on Friday October 19th, at night – dark and poor lighting with the angle. BUT you can see that BHRR's Canvas after only being at BHRR for just a few hours has his tail up and wagging! AND a cameo appearance is being made by BHRR's Jetta & BHRR's Blossom.

I took a great long video yesterday and ugh! I accidentally deleted it! 🙁 The weather looks good for tomorrow and so, I shall try again!

Below are some photos of BHRR's Canvas taken yesterda, October 22nd, 2012. It really is hard to truly capture how bad his body condition is(the same goes for BHRR's Autumn).

AND he looks better than he did on Friday.

I am having a hard time also capturing BHRR's Autumn, who also came in last week, emaciated/neglected and full of infection and growths etc. frown

It is important for people to understand that this type of abuse is out there, even closer than they may realise/think and we must work together to effect positive change for those that cannot speak and defend themselves.

This is why BHRR is here, to help special needs dogs like them. AND we cannot do it without the support of our believers and I reach out in THANKS again to each of you! smile

As of Saturday October 20th, I have set-up a file set-up for him at Kanata Animal Hospital for those that may wish to contribute to his Vet Care:

BHRR's Canvas – October 22nd, 2012

BHRR's Lizzy is NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! LOVE this girl! LOVE LOVE LOVE her! 🙂

She can go to a home that works full time, part time, semi-retired, works from home for she is another one of those versatile dogs! 🙂

I love how her tail just wags in a full circle! 🙂

She can be in a home with at least one other right matched personality fit dog or as an individual dog as long as her home has a great doggie social network for her to have as she loves her doggie friends!

BHRR's Sugar is NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! YOU GO GIRL! 🙂

She is going to need a home that is going to continue to work on her social skills outside of the home and leash manners. The leash can still worry her at times.

She can be an only dog or in a home with at least one other right matched personality fit dog.

She is completely housebroken and loves her crate to still eat in plus sleep in at night. 🙂

BHRR's Emmett is NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! YAY! Did we ever think this day would ever come! LOL

I ADORE this boy! Just adore him!!! Not a mean bone in his body, so happy and full of life and eager to please!

He can go to a home that works full-time, part-time, works from home, semi-retired, retired etc. as he is yet another very versatile dog!

I would love to see him in a home with at least one other right matched personality fit dog as he is a higher energy breed dog – BUT, he sure makes a great foot warmer! He really loves other dogs and all people and he really needs that social network of friends.

He makes my heart smile and laugh!

Since his time with me, he is almost done with the sub/excite urination – can still happen – and he should continue to outgrow that as he matures and settles AND he has really developed into a HUGE asset to home and community!

BHRR's Ani is coming back to BHRR. I am trying to make arrangements to bring her back for October 30th.

THIS is NOT her fault. The home does not feel they have the time nor attention to give her what she deserves in addition to what we have been made aware of what is currently happening in their home with their other dog. If I had known before this adoption what has since come my way, this adoption would not have happened at that time, quite possibly later, yet, not at that specific moment.

I am so sorry BHRR's Ani…so very sorry….. 🙁

Poor BHRR's Ani. How many people are going to think this is somehow her fault. It is not. 🙁

Posted in Ani

It is sad to see any dog in this type of emotional and physical state and though, not the most urgent of situations we have ever seen at BHRR, he is a dog that has been truly broken down….the poor sweet boy. frown frown Very tragic…..

He is about 35+ pounds underweight(he is only 96.92 pounds), has diarrhea, is not yet housebroken and is already integrated with all the dogs but four! 🙂 Even BHRR's Dozer! WTG! BHRR's Dozer! 🙂

He has tons of potential, a really lovely boy and I have all the time in the world for him to have the patience, consistency and structure he needs to flourish and I look forward in posting updates and photos and videos of his rehab. process! I cannot thank those involved enough…..AGAIN for entrusting another to our care/hearts!

Despite how starved he has been, he took the chicken I gave him on the way home very gently and was a wonderful, if slightly quiet co-pilot!

Sean feels strongly about naming him and he has wanted to call him BHRR's Canvas for several reasons and he really is a beautiful canvass that just needs the right 'light' and 'touches' to be a masterpiece to home and community! smile

I am trying to find some cube large tube body pillows to line the sides of the colossal crate as his body is so emaciated. – I have two already:

one is 47" long, 10" height and 12" wide

one is 55" long, 12" height and 14" wide

As of Saturday October 20th, I have set-up a file set-up for him at Kanata Animal Hospital for those that may wish to contribute to his Vet Care:

BHRR's Canvas with Rescue Angel – Vivian! – Friday October 19th, 2012 @ KAH

FREEDOM DANE BHRR's Cobalt when to his new forever loving home today! He is now OFFICIALLY ADOPTED! Some photos below!

So, BHRR's Autumn is battling a nasty UTI as I suspected and per the C&S, a number of antibiotics should be effective. So, she is on Clavamox 375 x 2 BID for the next 14 days.

She is doing well….

One of those mammary lumps is larger and she does not appear to be really putting on the weight like she should and I shall have back at KAH later this week now that she is stronger and more healthy than when she first arrived.

UPDATE: From BHRR's Riley's AWESOMEFIED Temp FosterMom. I booked his annual for today:

"BHRR Riley's vet appointment went really well. Everyone commented on how great he looked. Dr.Zak was really impressed with how shinny his coat is and his body condition.

His new weight was 51.9kg(114.18 pounds) which surprisingly isn't much of a weight increase 🙁 He is looking so much better and even people on the walk we re commenting on how good he was looking. We will continue to work on it though, he is eating lots and regularly so the weight gain will come.

BHRR's Riley and I had a great day though. Started off with meeting Bruce and my mom for lunch at Extreme Pita, then off to KAH for his appointment. Then we made a detour on the way home to St. Albert's cheese factory. We enjoyed some ice cream and got some cheese curds for snack after dinner 🙂

Oh I also picked up Novembers Revolution."

***For any of our approved temp foster homes, BHRR covers all the bills, you just provide the loving home environment and so, if any of our approved Temp Foster Homes are in a position to temp foster, let us know! contactbhrr@gmail.com We are full right now and even with temp foster homes, we will not be taking in any new additions until we have more adoptions!***

He is NOW on his way! He is safely with Fiona's mummy and LOOK at that collar she got from Crazy Beautiful! STUNNING on him! THANK YOU!

UPDATE Below From Fiona's Mummy – Just before Noon October 19th:

"He is very scared of people. Head lowered as he looks up you. So skittish he has to be double leashed.

Very big (long and tall). Painfully skinny. I gasped when I first saw him. He slept to our first stop. I look back to check on him. All I see are ribs and a spine.

I had not had breakfast so I stopped at a pit stop in Hudson. I got an bacon and egg English muffin at Eggcellent. I got him one. We are now best friends! I almost got a kiss. Now he is up and is looking out the front and is smelling my hair. He is relaxing. He is afraid but is looking for someone to cling to.

He's gorgeous, or as Fiona would goygeous! Real stunner. He is sweet. He is insecure.

As soon as I start the car, he will fall asleep again.

I told him about Birch Haven. He doesn't believe me…"

Here are three videso sent my way of this boy during his time at the Shelter.

VIDEO #1

VIDEO #2
VIDEO #3

We stepped up to commit to him as we had a GD under a possible pending adoption and BHRR's Cobalt is NOW ADOPTED and shall be heading to his forever loving home on Sunday October 21st, 2012. This has given us the spot to assist another in need.

Sean came up with the name 'Canvas' and it really does suit him. He is a beautiful 'canvas' that with the right 'touches' and 'light', he is going to be a stunning masterpiece asset to home and community.

We mobilized fast and he arrived to BHRR today. 🙂 THANKS to Fiona's mummy for the assistance with his transport to get him closer to me today! 🙂

On Monday October 15th, we were contacted to assist an approximate 12 -15 month old Mantle male Great Dane. This is what I was sent:

"This is the saddest dog I have seen in a long time. FREAKED OUT. I will send videos-they will make you cry.  Male, weighs about 125 pounds-vets couldn't examine/vaccinate-too stressed."

Also, story is the owner had the dog for 1 year.  Lived with another dog and a cat.  Never been with kids.  Owner is feeding Purina and cannot afford the dog and that is why the dog is being surredered.  He is also crate trained, loves to sleep on the couch.  Owner did say dog is timid but not aggressive.  X tested the dog and infact there is no aggression but more of a fright/flight."

He was neutered by the shelter on Tuesday and given his Vaccines. He shall require a booster. He was also microchipped.

Two photos below are from when he was at the Shelter.

BHRR's Canvas – At the Shelter – October 2012

"

BHRR's Cobalt is moving to an ADOPTED status! HUGE congratulations to his wonderful new forever loving home and to him! Another FREEDOM Dane has been adopted!

BHRR’s Hailey is doing well. Now, that the cooler weather is upon us, she is having a bit harder of a time on that leg and the Cartrophen is not working as well. We will be re-visiting things shortly.

Oh yes!! Jumping up and down! Up and down! The histo is back on the abnormal ovary sent of for pathology for BHRR's Spice! They did a couple of extra slides just to double check things and everything is normal!! YES! YES!

So, after she recovers from her spay, she shall have her cherry eyes surgically addressed on the 24th and after her recovery, be ready for adoption.

What a brave and strong wee 'Giant' she is!!

BHRR's heartworm test is NEGATIVE! YAY! YAY!

So many more test results to come in yet YAY! YAY! 🙂

Here is another VIDEO from today – fall at BHRR  – Wednesday October 17th, 2012.

I wanted to capture BHRR's Blossom's body condition as she looks today and could not help but capture some of the other BHRR lovelies too! 🙂

DOESN'T BHRR's Blossom look fabu extreme now!!! NO longer that 57 pound Great Dane that first arrived into Rescue on September 7th, 2012!

WTG BHRR's Blossom!!!!

Wednesday AM VIDEO TIME of BHRR's Autumn and my daughter waiting for the school bus.

BHRR's Lizzy was spayed today and weighted 35.5 KGs(78.10 pounds). YAY! Putting on that much needed weight slow and nice!

Once she has about 7-10 days to recover from her spay, she shall be placed up for adoption!

I would recommend to any new forever loving home to NOT give her blankets unsupervised, especially if she has to be on crate rest. She likes to express her displeasure by destroying them!

She has been fine when having a free run of the house. No issues! She has had free run of our home for some time now! 🙂

BHRR's Lizzy's spay – October 16th, 2012 – second photo courtesy of S. Hill

I need to take some new photos yet, BHRR's Blossom is now ready to have an appointment for her vaccines, presurgical bw etc. to be spayed! I cannot wait for that new weight!!!

So, her vaccines and presurgical bw is on October 23rd and her spay has been booked for October 29th.

You can tell that she has had a heat in her life. When she is spayed, we shall look at her uterus to better determine if she has ever had a litter.

We are still working on her 'social' worries outside of BHRR and within the next week, shall begin to have playdates, daytrips etc. with approved Volunteers to help her along that path to being ready to be placed up for adoption!

YET, this girl is nothing like the GD that first arrived to BHRR so terrified and ONLY 57 pounds!

BHRR's Emmett was detwinkled(neutered) today and he weighed 27KGS(59.4 pounds). He continues to just charm all those around him!

He was a really good boy and was up on his feet and acting like nothing ever happened not long afterwards!

This boy is soooooooooooooooooo happy!

Once he has about 7-10 days to recover from his neuter, he shall be placed up for adoption. THIS is one boy that I am going to miss. He is so affectionate, obedient, fun loving, well behaved and he just lifts your spirits no matter how tough of a day you have had!!!! He is just shy of 6 months of age(born April 21st, 2012) and he is going to give a lucky home the best of lives! 🙂

BHRR's Emmett – during his neuter surgery October 15th, 2012

UPDATE:

BHRR's Autumn. She weighed an emaciated 105.82 pounds(48.1 KGS) today. She needs at LEAST another 30-35 pounds of muscle mass/weight to be where I want to see her right now for her bone/substance and conformation. Her body score is barely a 2.5/10.

I microchipped her, we collected urine by cysto and shall be doing a UA include C&S on her, her heart and lungs sound clear/good, her teeth indicate that she is NO more than around 15 months of age and her playful demeanor is very indicative of an overgrown puppy, could not fully examine all teeth at this point for breaks, chips and fractures, she has three mammary growths/tumours that we shall biopsy, we cannot do a fecal smear or fecal at this time as the own stool that has come out since her arrival is when she has strained and it was blood with foam, we did a couple of skin scrapings – no demodectic mange, ear swabs – yeasty yet not terrible, suspected food allergies for sure – going to keep going with the FROMM Whitefish for her for now, she has entropic eyes – right worst than left – she can see yet, not very well in the one eye due to the placement of the eye in the socket – if you hold all the skin back, she can see much better!, hearing impairment is somewhat questionable still, she is on metronidazole and Panacur and I started Revolution yesterday for possible FAD etc. She also had a heartworm test plus presurgical bw including CBC, full exam noted hind end is not strong and possible hip and/or cruciate concerns to be re-visited when stronger/healthier etc. etc.

We shall monitor for possible seasonal allergies as we go along yet, with the frost coming, we may not really know for some time if she also has seasonal allergies.

We shall await the results of the urine tests to determine which antibiotics shall be most sensitive to what is found.

The Vet was also a bit confused about the built up of milk and yet also fluid surrounding most of her teats. Did she just wean a litter? Have a heat? Going into heat? False pregnancy? Real pregnancy? It is questionable right now and with all that she has gone through today, we are going to hold off for a week and re-visit a lot of these things to give her time to get stronger – she is quite wobbly bobbly with her neglect and more healthy. SHE did FABU today!

The team at KAH kept remarking just how bonded she already was to me…YUP! She is! 🙂

I may be missing a few items done for her today at KAH and will double check my notes and her records….been a very long day for her and I today…..She and I are both to be finally home! 🙂

Donations to her extensive and continuing to mount Vet Bills can be made in the following ways:

TONS of positive thoughts and vibes

BHRR's Autumn had a good night. Not a peep!

She definitely has a UTI and something is going on with her bowels – she had her first BM just now and it is sheer blood with some white foam.

She is going to need all those positive vibes people can send. We are off to the Vet today and despite how crappy she has to be feeling, she is wagging her tail, wanting to play with the other dogs(she has been integrated with most) and already has discovered the couch! NOT the doggie one at that! 😉

She had a small accident in her crate between 6:30 AM – 8:00 AM and I had already suspected she had a UTI last night as I did not like the colour nor smell of her urine. What I discovered in her crate really confirmed that…..poor baby…..

I am also looking over those nipples of hers and I cannot tell if she had a litter recently or………….. 🙁 So, we shall determine if she may be pregnant or a false pregnancy. Maybe, she is coming into a heat or just out of one yet…………..

We often see dogs that have given birth and then are dumped at shelters or in rescue…….none of the females have any 'interest' in her, so yet, her nipples are enlarged, enlarge vulva – both common after a heat or false pregnancy or after weaning a litter or in a pregnancy. Her nipples also have a small 'pocket' of swelling under them as if there was a milk production.

She is so emaciated….so young. 🙁

BHRR's Autumn really needs some extra warmth and kindness to come her way…….I shall have a file set-up for her at Kanata Animal Hospital as of Monday October 15th in the afternoon. I will be bringing her to work with me. I had hoped to give her a couple of days to settle in upon arrival, yet, she is in a very bad neglected state. :( VERY bad…. :(

This blog update is LONG overdue!

BHRR's Velvet has fast become a HUGE fav to so many out there! I have had to advise many an inquiry that she is NOT yet available for adoption and shall not be for some time and that she is only going to be placed in the right matched personality fit home JUST as with all our dogs.

With one or two homes, I have had to state that BHRR is NOT desperate to find homes for our dogs. They live a grand life with us or in one of our fabu temp foster homes! 😉 They lack or want for nothing and BHRR's Velvet is no different.

I truly cannot believe that she has been here almost a month already! She has fit in like she has always lived here! She is fully integrated with all the dogs, deeply bonded to myself and despite being a big gal, she is a 'big suck' at times(yet, so independent in at other times and in many other ways!) and has the saddest soft wee 'whine' if I am on one side of a door and her on the other! LOL Then, she has a monkey side for most nights she wants to sleep in the master bedroom and every once in awhile, she decides she wants to be out in the main area and yet, as soon as I let her out, within 20 minutes back at the door; softly snuffling and giving this very soft wee 'whine' of 'please let me back in….I changed my mind….'

She is no longer crated and has full run of the house. She has proven 100% trustworthy plus housebroken. She has a most delightful personality!

She is an awesome dog and did fabu supreme at our September 29th 'DINE WITH THE BHRR ANIMALS' Event(one photo below) and she also came with me to the Greyhound Supporters(NCR) 8th annual international Greyhound Planet Day on Saturday October 13th, 2012(photo below).

She did incredible! She really showed people how much she loves to lay on her side and have her tummy rubbed. I noticed that she was pulling one or two Volunteers around and it reinforces that while she listens to me, she needs to learn(hence our obedience clause in our adoption contract) to have mutual respect/trust with others so that she can continue to be a model asset to home and community!

Her coat is not really a solid black, yet has more of a 'chocolate hue' to it and as mentioned to a few folks on Saturday, that she is still blowing off that old dead coat, that it shall take awhile and if you look at her tail, face and part of her legs, a really lovely shiny black is coming in….with a slight 'brown' hue still yet; not that chocolate brown of an old dead coat. She is still having some dander and she is on FROMM Whitefish, is getting her Omega's in the eggs/eggshells and is being bathed with organic oatmeal shampoo. I think a few people did not realise just how long it takes to work 'magic' on a coat that had never been properly taken care of and she will get there…. 😉 You cannot rush these things. Time, patience and consistency works 'magic' in many ways…..

I shall be booking her an appointment at the Vet for next week – the week of the 22nd – and do her presurgical bw, have a thorough exam and microchip her etc. She has completely recovered from her KC. Her heat is now over and we wait for it to be safe to spay her. Once she is spayed, she will have about two weeks recover time and then be placed up for adoption. Due to our XMAS shutdown period as we do not adopt out during the holiday season(yet, do remain open 24/7 for requests for assistance); her being placed up for adoption may not occur until January of 2013.

Yet, one step at a time!

I still 'peg' her at not more than 3 years of age.

September 29th – photo courtesy of M. Aris & October 13th – photo courtesy of Andrea – AREN'T those eyes amazing!

Here is my first VIDEO of BHRR's Autumn, very shortly after I arrived home with her today.

Per the video, you will hear me talk about her eyes, her ears – vision and hearing possible problems, possible FAD, food and/or seasonal allergies, that her body condition is between 2/2.5 max., that she has infections, hair loss and she could well have possible demodectic mange(do not supsect sarcoptic at this time) and we will do skin scrapings. She has rub marks on her tail and various parts of her body like from being confined in an area too small for her, long nails and with her being so worried right now, I have not yet looked at her teeth and inside her mouth. AND she has had at least one litter in her very young life…. 🙁 Her poor body. 🙁

She is settling in well, is very sweet, bonds fast and she absolutely LOVES my daughter Kinsley.

She wants to be in the house all the time, is nervous about being left outside and her leash manners are really quite good. She will follow me everywhere and she is working on her crate training and after only a small moment the very first time, she walks in without any problems. She has a stubborn streak. She showed that to me very well and YAY! FOR that is one reason why she has survived for as long as she has…that backbone of steel that these dogs that are emaciated, neglected and terribly emotionally and physically not done right by those that should have treated them with respect and love, is what makes these dogs such survivors!

She has drank some, had a good sized pee and has eaten a tiny bit. I am offering her food every 3-4 hours for she is in really bad shape. 🙁 Her tummy and digestive system will need to get used to having nourishment, the proper kind.

She has the potential for bad SA and so the crate training is doing a most wonderful thing for that so that she can learn that her own company is good and ok and her crate is right near where my main computer is and other than some small whines earlier today as she was worried that she would be left alone, she is fast learning that she is not going to be forgotten about and gosh, my heart is just throbbing for love for her!

Will update her blog after her vet visit…..

UPDATE #1: Sunday October 15th, 2012 from one of her rescue angel transporters, Charlotte:

For someone who prefers the company of male dogs, I didn't think I'd fall for Star/Autumn like I did. Even during my brief time with her, I could see what a darling girl she is. At first, she was reluctant to get into my car (I was the first leg after her overnight visit). I'm sure she was hoping she had finished traveling. Once in the car, I got a few face snuffles from her and a big, wrinkly head rested on my shoulder. We got moving and she laid down in the back. What a good girl she is in the car!

A short trip later, we arrived at the next hand-over location. We took a little walk around on the grass while we waited for her next "chauffeur" to arrive. Even though she did seem confused during the process, she still wanted to meet everyone. I even got a lean from her!

For having met her for only a very brief time, and during a very confusing couple of days, her sweetness was incredible. I can't even imagine what a love she'll be once she's settled in and comfortable around her new foster parents.

She really made an impression on me. I'm hoping once she's available for adoption, I'll be in a position to put in an application for her.

Send her some kisses from me!

Charlotte

UPDATE: #2 Sunday October 15th, 2012 from one of her rescue angel transporters, Rachel:

I feel proud to say that I am a part of such a wonderful team!

Autumn has certainly wormed her way into my heart and I know its a long road ahead for her, but she'll pull through with your gentle guidance and care.

Attached is a picture of her on our way to Prescott. She slept right through with the aid of Elton John ballads.

Rachel

P.S. She certainly has the snoring down pat haha, though very lady like

UPDATE: Saturday October 13th, 2012 from Barry who was one of her rescue angel transporters:

I have never had a Great Dane in my car before so this was a first. As you can see by the picture, Autumn/Star made a great back seat driver on the Blue Ash/Grove City run!

Take Care,

Barry

Star has discovered that guinea pigs are quite fascinating!

Star is having a sleep right now. So far so good. She definitely needs some fattening up! I'm sure you folks will take fabulous care of this SWEET, sweet girl!

She also seems to think that Erik should share his doritoes. She would be wrong.

Here is an update from October 2nd, 2012:

Hi Gwen,

Sorry for my delay.

She got her stitches out last week and is continuing to recover well. She needs to start her heart worm treatment. She might have gotten her first HW preventative already.

I'll talk to him today and get a better update.

On Tuesday October 9th, I received the following request for assistance for a GD, female, Harlequin, about 15 months of age(we will better determine age once she arrives). With the heartwrenching loss of dear BHRR's Concert, we have the spot to help another animal in need of BHRR. We mobilized fast and she is expected to arrive to BHRR this Sunday October 14th, 2012

Once she has arrived safely, I will begin a file for her at Kanata Animal Hospital, whereby any fans and supporters of her may wish to contribute to her Vet Bills. She shall require the rest of her vaccines(when healthy enough), Heartworm testing, heartworm preventative, bloodwork, to be spayed(when healthy), most like Ester C and a collar/leash to call her own, a dog bed, packing blankets(she is emaciated), oatmeal shampoo, extra lean ground hamburger, rice etc. We need to address her ears plus her eyes – she has terrible HAWS the poor thing and it is hard to tell if she has any other eye issues. HAWS is quite common in many lines of dogs.

If she needs x-rays or any other medical intervention, she shall receive it without hesitation!

"…..was an owner surrender, scared of cats, gets along with other dogs, and I do not know about children because I don’t have any children to test her on. LOL  I have not seen her show any aggression towards other dogs since being here. When she first got here, she was growing at some of the staff, but I have not had any problems with her at all. She wants to sit in my lap. She is very sweet, playful, and lovable. She has already bonded with me so she will accept a new home with no problem. I have fed her treats and took her food away and she has not displayed any food aggression towards me. Her eyes concern me as you can see in her pictures and she has something going on with the tips of her ears. It is very dry and crusty. She is thin and needs to put on some weight.  The runs here are too small for her, she cries when I put her in one. She needs out a.s.a.p."

UPDATE #1: Friday October 12th, 2012:

UPDATE: The female Harle GD began her transport to BHRR today. She is now safely tucked in her overnight home….

We have been told that she has been horribly neglected and is naturally confused plus nervous yet: sweet.

Soon sweet girl….you shall be here very soon….

UPDATE #2: Friday October 12th, 2012 from the ACO of the Shelter:

Hello everyone,

I just want to say Thank you to Jeff for giving me an update on Star tonight, for keeping her over night. I am so grateful for Rhonda, Gwen, and each one of you that make all of this possible for these dogs.

X is a great girl that deserves more than what she had received in her past life, now she has a wonderful future. I will miss her. She does well on a leash and will warm up to you quickly. We wree mixing dry food with can food to try to put some weight on her and to entice her to eat more. Loves to be loved on and loves to give you love!!

Grateful,

Marsha

UPDATE #3: Friday October 12th, 2012 From the family overnighter here:

X is a big, big, girl. She is thin, but very tall, and will require a large crate on the transport. (I think that she could be a good candidate to be tethered though, if needed. She’s pretty laid back.) We had her in a 42” crate when transporting her from Williamstown to home, and she still seemed cramped. She is a real sweetheart, and if I thought that I could talk Debbie into keeping her, I would! She ate very well, and was given a second portion, and ate all of that too. She walks well on a leash, doesn’t pull much at all. She is very loveable, and will make someone a great companion and friend once she gets adjusted. Since she is going across the border to Canada, we checked her paperwork, and it all seems in order.

That’s about it for tonight. I will send an update in the morning if needed. Safe travels everyone.

                                                                Jeff

MET A RESCUE

I was at the Ottawa Bytown Farmer's Market recently (Sep 29, 2012)and literally followed a young man and his black & white Great Dane. When I spoke with him he told me he had got his dog from Birch Haven. He got her when she was 3 years old, requiring knee surgery. She's 5 now, and just lovely to engage with. I wanted to share this with you and add my support to the good work you are doing. I'm also going to look at a possible foster/adoption

BHRR's Sugar & BHRR's Spice are having their spays today.

Unfortunatetely, we are unable to also do BHRR's Spice's bilateral cherry eyes for upon further investigation into what she requires, it is more complicated than originally thought by the Vet doing the spays.

Therefore, once she is recovered from her spay, about 10-14 days, we shall do her cherry eyes.

Once BHRR's Sugar recovers from her own spay, she shall be pretty much ready to be placed up for adoption. She is still quite shy, yet, doing so much better.

Both have continued to just bloom at BHRR and with the continued patience, consistency, time, positive reinforcement and structure plus obedience in their new homes(may their new homes find them sooner rather than later!) they are going to be super assets to home and community! 🙂

BHRR's Scarlett was at the Vet with me last night and she weighed a WOW 38.5 KGs(84.7 pounds). SO, all that weight and a wee bit more that she lost during her complicated spay is now back on in her own body weight!!!

She is such an affectionate girl and yes, all Pyr in so many ways with 'what is in it for me, if I do not want to do what you want me to do, when you want me to do it!' LOL

She was my co-pilot on the way to work and some photos posted of her below.

She is not a wallflower, this girl. Confident in many ways yet, she does do a wee bit of sub/excite urination in strange settings. Not too much. The more she learns what is expected of her as she is communicated to in a clear, calm and effective leadership fashion; the more she understands what is appropriate and she has no issues sharing the communal water bowls(2 of them) and she is more 'crank bluff' than anything when dogs walk by her crate when eating. Her food is a high value item and she is fed in a crate and we have no issues touching anything of hers yet, having come into BHRR so painfully thin – somewhat emaciated – food is naturally a coveted item for her.

If kibble is spilled on the floor, she no longer rushes in to snatch it up and while she wants it; she is not resourcing over it. As she is fed on time, given enough food and that she learns that no one is going to fight her for her food or take it away; she has relaxed and trusted and now is more 'cranky' if a dog walks by and she likes to see them 'jump.' THOSE girls are so smart and can be very manipulative! LOL

She cannot get enough of humans and BOY! Is she good with BHRR's Spice and BHRR's Sugar. Our nickname for her is 'little mama' and though, just a mere baby herself; she is sooooooooooo good! She feels so much better and just today was out playing for 2.5 hours straight and it made my heart soar!

She is now ready to spread her wings further and take that next step and may her right matched forever loving home find her and take the leap of faith in knowing that this is one SUPER dog and as long as you are an effective leader, calm and positively assertive, the pyr in this girl is content to allow someone to take care of her until she arrived at BHRR, no one was taking care of her…clearly, as she was pregnant and very ill coming to BHRR.

She is so low maintenance. Just a very quiet and well mannered girl in the house and her leash manners are abounding, along with all of her other obedience skills.

She had a lot of fans last night at KAH and I do not blame them! She is the dog that reminds me of BHRR's Holden, that many will not 'see' her as they find themselves surrounded by the attention seekers/grabbers in other dogs and they will overlook her and that is a shame. YET, just as with BHRR's Holden, her right matched forever loving home shall see her for ALL the gold and jewels she is and will apply to adopt her.

She is independent while also being dependent. She has proven 100% house trustworthy in our home, is housebroken and she gets along with all the dogs here.

If you remind her gently to mind her manners, she is a real bomb proof dog. Do not give her an inch for she will take a mile; yet; on the other hand, give her love, consistency, structure, routine and obedience and she will hand you her whole heart and soul at your feet and you will be deeply humbled…….

LOVE this dog! She is honest, no sneakiness in her at all. What you see if what you get.

She can go to a home that does or even does not have another dog, or has more than one right matched personality fit dog, a home that works pt, ft, from home, semi-retired, retired etc. as she is once again, another very versatile dog.

She is a gorgeous compact girl! Lovely in proportion and those eyes…yup! MORE gorgeous eyes to drown in! 🙂

She is NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!!

BHRR's Scarlett – October 2nd, 2012 – MY Super Co-pilot on the way to work at KAH!

BHRR’s Sugar & BHRR’s Spice had their vet visits tonight.

BHRR’s Sugar was 15.3 KGs(33.66 pounds) & BHRR’s Spice was 16.4 KGs(36.08 pounds). Both were microchipped and received their DAPP + Rabies vaccines AND had their presurgical bw done.

It has been confirmed that BHRR’s Spice does have bilateral cherry eyes and the one Vet felt that waiting until she is 1 would be a more successful option for her than doing this surgery now. I shall also see what the Vet who is doing her spay also feels. If the surgery is best to wait and BHRR’s Spice is still with us at one year of age, we shall do the surgery then. Should she be adopted, BHRR will pay for her surgery at KAH to be done as that is our Vet Hospital of choice.

Once I added the benadrly to BHRR’s Spice regime, she was feeling so much better……so whatever allegen it was, it seems to have dissipated and she is back to her regular ‘imp’ self at home – the evidence is in the chewed cords to Sean’s laptop, our telephone and one computer…..all were not plugged in at that time…….so safe for her…not fun for us!

BHRR’s Sugar was much more outgoing and active than her sister at the Vets. Her leash manners are better too. She does not like doorways though.

I did BHRR’s Sugar’s nails and just touched up BHRR’s Spice’s nails.

Their spays have been moved up to October 11th so that we have the best chance of avoiding a heat and the Vet did not feel that waiting two weeks post vaccines was necessary.

Both showed impeccable manners with sitting and when I let them off their leashes, tails were up and wagging and BHRR’s Spice was Ms. Explorer while BHRR’s Sugar much preferred to lay or sit near me.

Will try to get more photos to post of them both. 🙂

BHRR's Lizzy was not able to be spayed today at KAH. 🙁

She was sedated and ready to be intubated when a slight discharge was noted. The Vet asked what I wanted to do and if I wanted to proceed yet; I said that I would delay her spay as I want her at her heathiest. So, she is on antibiotics for the next two weeks and her spay has now been scheduled for October 16th.

I forgot to bring home her current weight and I shall get that tomorrow to post as I have BHRR's Sugar & BHRR's Spice in at KAH.

HERE is the album on FB that I have been creating for BHRR's Concert and her incredible life of adventures and dreams fulfilled!

With how much I have on my plate these days, it is going to be very hard for me to post a blog here and posts/updates there, so I shall keep the link to her photo album current on her blog for people to virtually be a part of her living LIFE to the fullest!

This is BHRR's Concert's 9thth journal entry of her my wish for her 'warmth and love from caring people', a celebration of the life that she is going to be living for as long as we can give it to her in quality!

On Sunday September 16th, 2012

My Daughter, BHRR's Concert, Bunker(my IW) and myself headed to Lachine, Quebec to meet up with two very inspirational women to have a picnic and afternoon in the sun by the lake! What a marvellous day!

COULD not have asked for better weather!

She had such a spectacular day! She showed of her trotting, prancing and even did a pounce! LOL

Thanks ladies for a lovely day and for giving BHRR's Concert another great adventure FULL of LIFE experience filled with love and caring touches!

BHRR's Concert was not too happy to see all these people go by and NOT pet her! I think we have created quite the social diva! YAY! 🙂 Several photos have been added to her slideshow and a few are below.

On Wednesday September 26th, 2012

BHRR's Concert has a new favourite past time now….when I pick up all the dog toys, she takes them all out of the rubber-maids and places them in very specific places.

She likes to place the KONG toys in one spot – walk in shower, all the rope toys in another – brick deck, bury all the stuffies under blankets and dino bones are placed under the pillows on the double bed downstairs! I mean, just

in case she may want a midnight chomp with all four feet in the air while Sean is trying to sleep! LOL

Then, when she is done, she lays down and looks most satisfied with herself.

AND she will do it over and over again for obviously, 'I' am not picking up on HOW things should be :)- ….she has a different sort of organizational scheme of things in our home than I do clearly! LOL

So, for all those that came over Saturday, they should not be surprised to maybe find some things perhaps where they should not be! 😉

How EXCITED I am to write this blog! 😉

BHRR's Emmett ROCKED it at zee Vet today! His leash manners were so much better, getting there, some moments of his mind just going into la la land as he is still afterall, BHRR's Emmett! LOL

He travelled fabuly in the car!!! He had a slight moment of anxiety when I first stopped at the Vet and he thought he was being left behind yet, by the time we left and I stopped for gas on the way home, he sat like a real pro in the back seat and many admired him…so much, that I had to take him out of the car for a visit….which held up the pumps yet, no one seemed to mind! 🙂

At the Hospital HUGE HUGE HUGE hit as always! That butt just a wiggles and a waggles as he is sitting and that tail stub is going nonstop. He is praise motiviated, food/treat motivated and toy motivated. He is just so eager to please, very outgoing, social and not a MEAN bone in that body.

The Vet could not believe how stacked he was with muscle. He was very impressed. AND when one of my fellow uber special team members was rubbing his ears, he was almost dozing off in absolute pleasure…..

He had a wee bit of barking in the back run here and there yet, settled down extremely well and his sub/excite peeing is very little these days.

He had a GREAT Septembe 29th, 'DINE WITH THE BHRR' Animals Event too and had a big fan club that night here! 😉

I have two photos posted below of that evening.

At his Vet visit – BHRR's Emmett is now 5+ months of age, he weighed 26.6 KGs(58.52 pounds). Most of us are not convinced he is a pb Giant Sch. YET no matter, he is GIANT in personality and heart and soul! 🙂 He is not going to be a super tall boy yet, he is going to be very muscled(as that right matched forever loving home is going to be diligent about keeping up with not just his mental stimulation but his physical stimulation too.) and quite stocky. A very well built young man he is already!

LOVE LOVE LOVE those ears!

He received his DAPP booster and his Rabies and I am running another fecal – just to be sure all the eastie beasties are now gone! The Vet did not feel that another UA was necessary at this time and so onward we go to prepare for his neuter as he is now HEALTHY! WAHOOOOOOOOOOO! YIPPPPPPPEEE!

In the house, he really is a well behaved boy and I can take him on walks/hikes and he is very good about 'checking in' and 'watching me' and he is very bonded. He is an immensely loyal and dedicated boy.

The way he looks at me with those eyes, never challenging, just wonderfully gazing into my eyes to see what I may want next and what we may be doing next and the humour plus trust in those eyes is so deeply humbling.

To whomever adopts him, you are truly WINNING the lottery with this charming young man. He will make you laugh daily.

As he has received more and more structure and obedience, he understands what is appropriate and not and yes, he is always going to be BHRR's Emmett with that imp of fun and I never want that to go away; yet; he is going to be an obedience pro to that right home…..he will knock the socks right off you in his eagerness to please.

I cannot speak highly enough about this boy…..He is so not for the faint of heart in many ways; yet; that has all be directed and focused on appropriate displays of when to be a goofball and heck, he is wants to take the occasional piece of paper(well, ok…maybe, not the $20 bill and the $25 check he took off Sean's desk meant for BHRR today!) I am good with it!

That right matched forever loving home just cannot be a lazy one as this is a young boy who needs continued growth and direction to keep moving forward in that right area BUT it is not hard to train him…hard sometimes to focus him as while my mouth is talking, he is staring at the treat! LOL So, we are working on praise in lieu of treats and he cares not…HE just wants to please and be with you and do what you want to do and he is housebroken, crate trained and other than the rare chomp on a piece of wood furniture still; he is almost 100% trustworthy in our home. That is very impressive for only being 5 months of age!

He is smart this one and very talented. His personality reminds me very much of a Golden Retriever – that outgoing, social spazz, goofy temperament, loving all that cross his path and the sun is ALWAYS shining in his world. Despite whatever has happened in his past, his days are full of rainbows OF ALL COLOURS LOL!

As he matures and with the obedience, he is settling into the nicest of gems…….he is good about not rumbling in the house any longer and no racetracks at 3 AM for him anymore.

He really only wants to be loved and accepted for who he is…….he is a true asset to our home and to the community and that right forever loving home will keep him that way.

He can be adopted to a home that works ft, pt, semi-retired, works from home, retired etc. He is very versatile.

He would do great in a home with at least one other right matched personality fit dog, children he is good with – would not recommend super small children as he is working through that jump stage, a home that likes to walk, not a too busy home that will overstimulate him as he so enjoys his downtime too plus Sunday snoozing/naps. He loves the company of his humans.

He can be a bit of a rough house player still with some of the dogs, yet, he has learned 'gentle' and 'easy' and 'be nice' and 'baby' and he really does 'get it'. 🙂

This boy had no structure before he came to BHRR and was so confused…..HE is a model pupil now!

This boy is going to make one lucky home SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy!

BHRR's Lizzy's spay was postponed from Friday to tomorrw – October 2nd, 2012.

After two weeks have past post-spay, she shall be ready for adoption as she is just a wonderful wonderful wonderful pup!

Once she learned about sharing, she is having no issues at all.

She is a PYR though! LOL IF she does not want to come and you call her, she will look right at you and do what she wants to do! GOTTA love it!
