BHRR's Bishop is NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!

Below is his reality slide!

He can go to a home with another like matched personality fit dog or dogs or be an only dog – AS LONG as he has a network of doggie friends to play with on a regular basis.

UNKNOWN with cats.

He is good with people, good with kids yet, we would prefer him in a home with older kids(do not want him in a home with children under the age of 8), is 100% housebroken and trustwothy in our home.

He is another very versatile boy that can go to a home that works ft, pt, from home, semi-retired, retired etc.

HE has come so far! WTG BABY! 🙂

This week, BHRR was one of several groups contacted by another lovely rescue to see if we could assist with a litter of 9 puppies.

With the recent adoption of BHRR's Cosette and the then pending (now approved) adoption of BHRR's Kris Kringle, the bringing 'Mozart'(known to BHRR as 'Rook') home again, that very sadly, we would not be bringing in the blind Bruce, the possible placing of another dog in an approved BHRR temp foster home; we stepped up to offer/commit to assist two pups.

When asked, we passed along other names of groups we felt were r/q to see if they could also help this Rescue place the pups. They were also working hard to grab momma and though, the home did not surrender momma, she will be spayed.

BHRR offered to donate funds to help pay for her spay yet, this sweet group has that all covered.

The rescue then learned that four of the pups had become placed by this home yet, five still needed homes and with the beautiful collaboration of several kind r/q Rescues, all pups have a safe refuge!

These pups were destined to a life on chains, under socialised and neglected should the wonderful group that contacted us not be so proactive in their welfare.

Our two 'wee' giants – Rottie(Mom) x GS/English Sheepdog(Dad) shall arrive March 29th, 2013 and we are loving the surprise as to whether we shall have girls or boys or one of each come our way!

It always matters naught to BHRR sex, colour, age etc…we just feel blessed to be able to help those next in need canines. :)

The pups are 8 weeks of age and it has been a long time – 2012 – since we had puppy breath here at BHRR! What a special Easter these babies shall now have.

UPDATE: WE HAVE BOYZ! :)

BHRR's Baggins weighed 5.8 KGs(12.76 pounds)
He is being dewormed for Rounds and Tapeworms
He received his first vaccines on Saturday
He was microchipped

**HE is also visually impaired

NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!!

THANKS again Tanya for the donation of the CBC's for them!!!

On March 30th, I was contacted about 2 Great Danes that were surrendered to a pound in the SWO area. I was informed that this lovely rescue soul that works closely with the pound was heading out later that date to assess them and wanted to give me a heads up.

I was then contacted later that day by another person to see if I could assist them.

I waited for the write-ups(photos were optional for me…as colour or sex does not matter) and determined that the one – female, fawn, cropped with docked tail would have no trouble finding a Rescue and she did. She went to another Rescue and the update that I had received was that she was placed into a permanent home within 24 hours.

However, the other one, I knew would have trouble and I wanted to help him 'Maverick'. He was not only that 'common' black colour, he was more reserved and lacking in confidence and we were told he had one deformed front leg. Info. blurb is below:

"Great Dane, NEUTERED male, 1 year (birth date Feb 14/12), black, "Maverick".  Came in with dog #4.  Poor Maverick has front leg deformity which causes him to have very bowed legs.  He is able to walk and get around without pain though and does quite well for himself.  We have been told that he had surgery at OVC for his legs but are awaiting proof of that.  The owner stated it was because he grew too fast during puppyhood.  Maverick is the more reserved one, gaining his confidence from Vida. BUt although slightly shy Maverick was still very affectionate and had no issues with handling.  He weighs approx 85lbs. His vaccines are up to date until June and he is neutered.  He has natural ears and a full tail.  Both these Danes are good natured and loving. These dogs are the product of divorce and neither person can take the dogs.  The female owner cared enough about her dogs to make sure that she turned them in to a pound that deals with rescues "

We committed to taking him in and transport was arranged for April 6th, 2013.

BHRR's Kringle was ADOPTED TODAY!

BHRR's Kringle has a GD and a Cat plus pot belly piggies for his additional animal family members! 🙂

UPDATE:

BHRR's 'Rook's' real home may have been found. He had been picked up as a stray, was at the shelter since early Feb. and then came to us recently. I am currently in touch with this home and will update as I can. in the meantime, we have been treating his happy tail, de-wormed, heartworm tested him etc.

This is one reason why I have not posted photos, videos or updates as I want to really be sure that nothing is given away to make it easy should this NOT be his real home to identify him.

We are investigating re: this Dane. If it is their dog, the name is 'Mozart' and there are several things that well indicate that he was a much loved boy at one time. We have travelled this road with other dogs in the past and if this is their beloved boy, he will be returned to them. Many of us have been in a situation whereby a dog was spooked and ran off, a gate left open, a collar breaks or slips or a leash comes off etc. Loved dogs do go missing and are stolen. This home has been very proactive in trying to locate their missing dog and we are going through the process right now with them.

He is chipped now….we chip all dogs. AND he was also not neutered when he was picked up and so, we will also educate on why animals should be spayed and neutered. He is also now neutered. The shelter neutered this boy prior to him coming to BHRR and as they can do it cheaper than BHRR can, that was most kind.

" HAPPY * EASTER "

BHRR's Cosette was ADOPTED today!!

As many know, we were doing a gradual transition into the home to ensure maximum set-up for success and today was the day it is official!!

I am sooooo happy…my tears are so happy for this once very terrified GD plus skinny girl that lived in a one bedroom apt. She is nothing like that dog now and as I hugged her close, in my good-byes, I whispered that I would always love her and know she will me and that she is in a good place and thanked her for all her trust sent my way! I told her that I would see her again….not for awhile though and that she has made me a better Gwennie!

She has learned to give kisses and she sooooooo affectionate! She is one of my obedience queens and is so beautiful inside and out!

Each journey with every dog is so special that comes to BHRR and BHRR's Cosette's is no less emotionally impacting to my soul.

Her home could care less that she does not see out of one eye(very limited), her home could care less that she is a 'small' GD, what her new forever adoptive home cares about is BHRR's Cosette as what my son used to call himself 'whole special package deal!'

Welcome to our BHRR extended family to this lovely home!

BHRR's Cosette & her new GD Family! March 21st, 2013

BHRR's Cancun is NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! HE DID IT!! YAY!

While he would do great in a home without any other dogs, I would like for him to go to a home with at least one other right mtached personality fit dog. This boy came to us TERRIFIED of other dogs and the poof is in the photos and videos of him that he is NO longer that dog. It has been a long journey to get him to this point and we shall only see him continue to be set-up for success.

HERE IS a WINTER WONDERFUL BHRR VIDEO of him from February 27th, 2013

If he does not have regular exposure to a social stable network of dogs, I worry that he may resort back to the boy that would arch up like a cat and try to skuttle away from all dogs in nervousness and then if pushed, bark to try and tell any dogs to just please leave him alone. If a dog is going to get into his face, he is going to first try to walk away and then, he will give a bark if the dog persists as he just wishes to be left alone. AMAZING restraint and control he has.

The only time now that he makes a sound is if we have him in a crate to eat and he is done and wants out yesterday! LOL

He has proven 100% trustworthy in our home.

We do not know how he is with cats and very small dogs. He does not bother with our 9 pound Sir-Bounce-A-Lots yet, he is not really a dog….he is more like a black blur! 😉

He is completely housebroken and he is not a smooth Saint at all. As he has rehabbed at BHRR, his coat has been coming in beautifully!

He can go to a home that works full time, part time, semi-retired, retired, works from home etc. He is yet again, another very versatile dog! 🙂 AND we know that he is a great traveller! 😉

He is very very very affectionate and loving to humans. Not Saint like at all with strangers…very social and pet me now and please pet me some more! We do not wish to place him in a home that have children under the age of 8, should a home with children wish to appy to adopt him. He has been great with all that he has met, he lives with our two yet, we, want him to not have to have any extra worries about small children accidentally pulling his tail, ears or teasing him. It happens, even, in the best of intended homes and while dogs need to learn to act properly around kids, the same applies to children around dogs. BHRR's Cancun is a VERY patient dog and a very social boy! For all that he has gone through in his short life to date, we would like him to be a big focus in the home.

He gets along with all the dogs here yet, my two cropped Danes tend to still confuse him with those ears they have. He is still trying to figure the ears out…sniffling and snuffling them! LOL

Below is his REALITY SLIDE and I want to extend credit where it is due. Petopia Cancun deserves to be thanked for saving his life and being in the right spot at the right time as he was crossing the road that day. I want to thank Pamela for contacting BHRR and asking if we could possibly assist. I want to thank Nikki for escorting him to Canada. I want to thank Sonyia for road-tripping with me(and taking me on this magical hwy to get to the airport and back so wonderfully) and I want to thank everyone in-between that I may have missed and should not be in helping to come together to give him this opportunity at the best future possible! I want to thank the amazing folks I work with at KAH for all their help getting him to healthy status with me.

It takes a village people say to do things great and right and beyond and it is so true!

I am ONLY one piece in this whole miraculous, amazing journey this boy took! Yes, he lives with me….yet, SOOOOOOOOOOO many, including my family have been involved in helping BHRR's Cancun become this stupendous creature that was always there yet, just needed some love and TLC to shine once more!

His story is such a beautiful one…..I look forward to many more chapters in this boys' life!

UPDATE March 16th: BHRR's Abby had a fairly good night. A bit restless and so, with the permission obtained from emergency, we have changed up her pain meds.

She has been up, peed & pooped, drank a bit and shown interest in a bit of food.

Surgical site looks great, temp is still a bit low yet, she is doing fantastic!!!!

She shall be in excellent hands while I have to be out today and looking forward to seeing many people today at B&F Kanata!

As per an earlier post, only two M&M's are coming, The Lion Kings and so, THE DUDE is also coming for today! 🙂

AND do not forget that the very lovely folks at Pet Valu Stittsville are donating all nail trim monies today as part of their LUCKY IRISH Karma Fundraiser for BHRR! 🙂

On behalf of BHRR's Abby, Sean & I, THANK you all again for being there for her and us…what a long day yesterday was…..
As warm and wonderful as today was at B&F Kanata, I was so happy to scurry back to her!! She has had a rock solid day, no fever, temp is up close to normal, less pain, emerg suggested leaving her on fluids through a second night as she is just eating and drinking bits(nothing overly worrisome though) and the best part, she was so happy to see me that she wagged her tail, stood up and did a bit of a body wiggle….sigh…my heart melted. incision looks great still and hoping/wishing her a great night.

UPDATE: March 17th: She is doing absolutely fantastic!!! All the good wishes plus karma and positive thoughts are working.

UPDATE: March 19th: She continues to just make phenomenal progress! A bit of a seroma yet, nothing concerning.

UPDATE: just recently home with BHRR's Abby and she is nicely tucked in. She is on iv fluids and she shall have to be back to eating before being pulled off completely and she seems so content to be home.

My question for anyone who may be in the Ottawa area is if anyone has any sleeping bags they do not have need of. I have her wrapped up like a burrito as her temp is a bit low right now with nice towels from the dryer plus zipped up into a sleeping bag and she is nice and cozy. I have given her pain meds and she is slipping into la la land. 🙂

If anyone may have any used sleeping bags that they no longer need, I would be so happy to pay you for them. Very happy!!!

As would BHRR's Abby to get better with one or two more with the washing we will be doing as she heals.

She is doing really well overall!!

Just want to shout out HUGE thanks to everyone for EVERYTHING and making today the best that it could be under the circumstances.

Thanks being shouted out to my fellow team mates at KAH!! You truly are the best!! Homemade goodies of their way!

BHRR's Abby – March 15th, 2013
*She says she is tired, not overly fond of her IV yet, being a good girl and that she is sooooooooooo grateful for everyone
and everything being done for her!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

UPDATE: surgery went well for BHRR's Abby. She is out and now resting. All your well wishes, Irish positive karma energy and best thoughts have been a real comfort in knowing how many care…..

All your strength surrounds her and shall continue to keep her safe.

I am answering calls and texts as I can and we start counting hour milestones from here….

Thanks to my bestest for offering to come be with us if need be…..my heart is full of your warmth!

AND thanks on behalf of BHRR's Abby to those that sent donations. Was never my honest intent of my original post to have people send gifts to her bills yet, Sean and I and the rest of the BHRR BOD want each of you to know how much we extend our thanks for your generous gestures.

Tears are in my eyes in sheer humbleness and indebtedness to every single person that has been there for her from the sweet words, embracing thoughts and helping hands…..thank you!!

Will update a bit more later!

BHRR's Abby's Pexy – March 15th, 2013

Asking for best wishes, healing thoughts and safe surgery to BHRR's Abby.

She is in for an emergency pexy @ KAH after having a gas bloat.

Huge thumbs up and kudos to Sean who noticed her not being quite normal. He called me – I was only about 5 min. from home). He then gave her GasX. She did not tort. Thank god!!

My post is not to ask for donations to her bills( the supporters of BHRR have been more than generous and giving in their strong belief in what is done at BHRR). My post is to please ask that you send her all the positive energy and karma you can. We can carry a balance at KAH, though our bills are already steep, we do have our first organised Fundraiser of 2013 coming up next month and that will aid us.

Our success rate in catching bloat and tort early is fantastic. The survival rate has not been as wonderful and we are still working through all the grief and terrible emotional trauma of losing BHRR's Dana complications post bloat/tort.

If everyone could please surround her in your thoughts and warmth today, that would give her strength. Sean and I is too.

Thank you on behalf of BHRR's Abby and all her friends plus Sean/I at BHRR…..

BHRR's Freddy is READY he said and he is now AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

He cannot go to a home with cats. He has not proven reliable with them. I also do not feel comfortable placing him in a home with dogs under the size of about 50 pounds. We own a 9.5 pound dog and he is very 'interested' in him. Better than he was…yet, still very interested…..

As per the videos posted clearly show, he gets along wonderfully with dogs and he has not yet met a person that he does not love! 🙂

He can go to a home that works full time, part time, from home, semi-retired, retired etc. He is another versatlie dog!

He WILL NOT go to a home that is not very dog experienced. While I would love a Dog experienced home, not going to be mandatory as he should thrive in a wonderful dog experienced/savvy home. He is a Dogo at the end of the day and has thrived in his obedience with me and is very eager to please and has completely blossomed with the positive structure of consistency, routine, patience, understanding and obedience.

He is not a 'rare' dog, he is not a status sympbol, he is not a guard dog, he is not anything other than a very loving sweet dog that is going to be a true gift to that right matched home.

This boy has lived his whole life in hell. AND I mean hell. He was one of 33 dogs – all were able to be rescued other than about 9-10 – and that breaks the hearts of all that were involved in their rescue. 18 were Bostons and the rest were Dogo's.

His tail had become broken somehow and never treated and now three inches has been removed. He never knew a loving hand, kind word or spoiling dog bed until his rescue.

THIS boy's temperament is HEAVEN! Just heaven!

YET, being a dogo HE is not meant for just any home. AND we shall be as cautious with his adoption as we are with all our dogs.

He no longer marks in the house and is 100% trustworthy in that manner.

I still crate him if I am gone longer than 1/2 hour or so as we are still working up to full house trust….. 🙂 He will get there! 🙂

THERE is not one mean bone in his body.

He would excel in obedience and he is a dog that needs a 'job'.

He will not go to a home with children UNDER the age of 10. AND he will not go to a home that has more than two children.

February 18th, 2013

BHRR's Rook – about 13 months of age, male, now neutered merle Great Dane. WUV his lippies!

He was a stray that was picked up and has been waiting to be claimed since February 12th. When that did not happen, he has come to BHRR.

He is painfully thin – 6/10 body condition, has lick granuloma's, pressure sores plus callouses, some small wounds, was treated for fleas and was treated for diarrhea with metronidazole. He also has a tail injury that is being treated.

He has been quite quiet during his time at KAH today. Very little barking. A BULL DOZER on the leash and takes treats very gently.

He has shown some fearful behavour wtih people that are fearful of him.

His weight today was a very painful thin 51 KGs(112.20 pounds).

He also was microchipped.

Once he settles in more, I shall do his HWT etc. at that time.

I want him to have a positive day and experience after everything he has been through.

UPDATE:

BHRR's Velvet is back with me at BHRR while her temp foster family is away for the weekend! GOSH! I missed her and she is look fabu! 🙂

I also was in touch with the home that was going to be looking at adopting BHRR's Velvet in April and based upon what her home is currently going through, I am not going to adopt BHRR’s Velvet to this home at this time. They feel the same. A very tough decision to have been made by all.

One of their adult daughters is going through some serious medical concerns right now and the home is currently taking care of their daughters two dogs and cat.

We never finalize an adoption until the actual date and this is one of the many reasons that things can change and sadly, so. 🙁

So, she is going to be back available to be considered for other homes that may be interested in her.

We are keeping this amazing home, the whole family and all in our hearts and blessings plus prayers.

BHRR's Velvet is BACK OPEN TO BE CONSIDERED FOR AN ADOPTION!

Below is a photo of BHRR's Velvet in her temp foster home with BHRR's Holden! 🙂 From what I have been told, she is teaching him to 'share' his bed! LOL LOVE it! 🙂

They have been taking such amazing and wonderful care of her! 🙂 THANK YOU!

UPDATE: Dogo baby boy is with me at work today – March 6th and he has put on another 12.76 pounds!!! He now weighed 104.28 pounds. Still needs a bit of weight.

BHRR's Freddy also had a manicure plus pedicure and was very brave!! 😉

We did his hwt too as we had not done it at the time of his tail amputation visit.

He will get his booster tonight and final vet sign-off and he should then be making his exciting announcement!

To watch BHRR's Freddy move is such an incredible experience. He is just rippling with muscle mass and tone now. He looks magnificent! 🙂

Many are NOT going to recognize this beauty….YET, she is the one that came to me crawling on her belly and would slink and shy away.

She is the one that brought me to absolute tears of joy when I saw her playing in a HUGE Breakthrough and blogged about it on November 15th, 2012…..

AND very few have met her to date – those that saw her back last August just mere days before I could bring her into BHRR, when the family came to see us per my invitation at the CJ 'DIRTY DAWG' Wash that BHRR was so humbled to have been chosen…..and very few since then for this girl was terrified…..just terrifed….and in very poor body condition.

Crowds and people just made her cower and we have respected her wishes during her rehab journey at BHRR and have given her opportunities yet, have never pushed….

My patience and time and consistency has paid off for I have FINALLY been able to get some photos of the dog that she now is….head up, standing tall and sooooooooooo incredibly gorgeous! INSIDE and OUT!

THIS was the one that I was not sure could ever be put back together as she was so broken into so many small painful pieces….

YET, she did it! SHE did it!! This stunning creature has a very special announcement to make of her very own….

She was a wee bit unsure at first about posting her announcement, yet, just look at her! IS she not one of the most BBBBB's you have laid eyes upon!

Sweetly confident and calm and sure of herself and sooooooo freakin' affectionate! She loves her rump rubs too! She loves toys and is lovingly social!!!

To say that I am proud of you BHRR's Jersey is an understatement…you humble me daily and this journey with you has been nothing short of miraculous and something I shall hold dear to my soul for my life……….

THANK you for coming back to the land of the living and LOVING life!

A GD that has beaten and overcome SOOOOOO much! She is one of my hero's!

BHRR's Jersey – March 2nd, 2013

What better way to begin a weekend at BHRR than with a BHRR's Salma story! 😉

As Sean was heading to bed – he is an early bird to rise and shine and then to bed – I look over to see sweet dear BHRR's Salma dragging that bed of hers determined as can be out her open crate through the main area and….LIGHT BULB moment again!

I knew where she was headed…well, ok…only so many choices in an open concept house! LOL

It was clear to us both that BHRR's Salma has decided that her 'den' shall not be an open crate any longer…..

For she was dragging her bed with special handmade quilt in tow all the way to the master bedroom…..

She has decided that who better to be Doctor and Nurse to her post surgery healing process than herself and she was saying "NO MORE CRATE".

Now, the hard part…finding just the right place that Her Queenship Divine would be happy and content with where her bed would be laid in our master bedroom! 😛

After about five minutes of moving the bed from this place to that place, with BHRR's Salma just sitting there – her look was just priceless – one of severe toleration for her 'mere' humans in capabilities to 'get' what was to her a very clear answer….

DO you know where she wanted her bed???….in her mind, HER bed with special blankie SHOULD be placed right on top of the king sized bed…..

Well, dear sweet BHRR's Salma, this is going to be fun and a long night for that ain't how it works here…. 😉 LOL

We are in a stand off right now……Sean is now fast sleeping in the rec room with BHRR's Potter and she and I are in a stalemate. LOVE it! 🙂

She is sitting with such a mutinous stubborn DOGO look on her face and the words that are coming out of her mouth…for shame! She is telling me off big time!!!

AND I am sitting on a stool in the master bedroom typing away on my laptop to all of you and doing the 'passively ignoring'……

Wanna take bids on who wins this one? 😉

At work yesterday, I obtained a copy of Dr. Javinsky medical report on BHRR's Timon's Cardiac U/S that was done on February 26th, 2013. His weight was 42 KGs(92.4 Pounds).

I am attaching the pages here (3 of them – there is an overlap from Page 1 to 2 – in order for my iPhone to capture all info. I had to break up the one page into two) for people to read. His official diagnois is: Severe Subaortic Stenosis with Aortic Insufficiency, Mild Pulmonic Insufficiency. 🙁

So much for such a young dog to have to bear. 🙁

His ECG: showed occasional ventricular etopic beats.

During systole, blood is flowing at the rate of 6.22 m/s. Normal is <1.5 m/s.

Per Dr. Javinksy and we know this from past SAS dogs – Sudden death is likely due to acute fatal arrhythmia. We may never reach any fainting episodes with him. One day at a time…quality, quality….quality! We are not going to restrict him with exercise and want him to live the best live he can. He is already a miracle for he really should not be alive due to how severe his condition is yet, he is eating and playing and drinking and having a grand quality of life! 🙂

HIs first MMMM("MASTIFF MAGICAL MEMORY MOMENTS") Movement experience is this Saturday and then one on Sunday! YAY!

"MASTIFF MAGICAL MEMORY MOMENTS" Movement for him. For two are French Mastiffs and one is an Argentine Mastiff. :) I will create an album on our BHRR FB Page and also share.

NONE of these dogs had any life prior to being rescued and I, for, one am going to give them the world…AND asking for a wee bit of help, just as I did with BHRR's Concert to help give it to them…..
