AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

BHRR’s Amata(Amy) is AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!
Rottie

Health Status: HEALTHY!
*Leg amputation and eye enucleation done on February 12th, 2025

Age: ~1.5 years – Born: ~May 2024

Weight: ~ 34.9 kgs(December 2025) 76.8 pounds. We want to keep her lean/muscled and fit. Becoming fat is NOT in her or any dog’s best interest. She is also a tripod. We have asked his lovely foster home to cut back on her food /.treats.

Type of Home Ideal for BHRR’s Amata(Amy): She needs a solid structure. She interacts well with people/dogs she meets, and we hope for a quiet, socially low-active level home. A residence that, while visiting family plus friends and having people over, does not host frequent BBQs or gatherings of large groups. We do not want to see her in a home with a high level of travel, with other people taking care of her. Being a Rottie, she has her opinions! She needs a calm and confident home. A home that shall not baby her and continue to show her how amazing this big, wonderful world can be! She is loyal and loves her people, and we want her to be part of the family if they go camping, go to the cottage, or do other fun travels. She needs a home that shall work with her. One that shall not overwhelm her and will continue to work on her manners. She would adore cottage life or hang out at home with his family. Visiting friends, family, pet stores, and pet-friendly places is excellent, too, as long as they are not too busy. We want a quietly active home for BHRR’s Amata(Amy). She is super sweet. INCREDIBLY popular at my work!

She MUST go to a home that will continue to work on exposing her to new, fun, and beautiful things in the world. Time, patience, and effort have made her comfortable, not only to like but also to love her own company. We are not advocates of dog parks. Many private properties rent out space for acreage rentals so that she can enjoy a controlled environment to run and zoom in.

We want her to look forward to the next adventures plus experiences. She needs a home that will give her new, positive, significant, safe, memorable experiences along with structure, consistency, obedience, plus patience. If you are a home that likes to take infrequent walks/hikes/strolls, BHRR’s Amata(Amy) is not for you…he is a healthy dog and needs to be kept emotionally and physically stimulated. She would make a great companion to get out into nature, explore on your days off, and enjoy the beach and other small, exciting adventures! She is the best companion when watching movies or curled up with a good book. She is active, yet one must be sure to understand that she does have limits – she is a tripod.

A home that understands and shall continue to help her learn about this big, fantastic world that we live in. We want her to live a quality-filled, enriched life. She is being fostered in a lovely home outside the Ottawa area and can equally live comfortably in the city or country.

We want her to be happy and to live her best life every day. We want her to reach her full, incredible potential!

She is another versatile BHRR dog! She can be in a home that works ft; pt works from home, is semi-retired or retired, etc. She will ONLY go to a home prepared to ensure she receives the balance she requires with proper exercise, socialisation, etc., along with positive, balanced obedience.

She does need to go to a dog-experienced home, not specifically a Rottie-specific experienced home. The home must be committed to her obedience, structure, and consistency, and to be patient, kind, and understanding, and while not hermits, they are not doing a hundred things each day, weekly, or monthly. We want her to be treated as a beloved member in a right-matched, forever-loving home. We want her to be an invaluable member of her forever-loving adoptive home! She needs that right positive balance between patience, reassurance, passively ignoring, and being kind/gentle with her. She is fed in a quiet place and knows that she will be fed enough food on time and that no one will take it away. She arrived to BHRR after horrific abuse/neglect.

She loves her home and a small group of friends. She needs this stability.

Personality/Temperament: Super loving, huge personality, affectionate, loves her zoomies!, active, happy, and incredibly sweet; she loves to get outside to romp and run and is a delightful girl! She needs to be emotionally/physically properly stimulated, quietly social, active, gentle, plus kind. She thrives with consistency, structure, routine, and clear open communication to understand precisely what is expected of her. She is brilliant and a healthy puppy!

Previous Dog Experience: Previous Dog experience is required per the above, and she needs a home that is going to be committed to her wellbeing and make the small adjustments required as she is still an adolescent, still learning, and still mentally plus physically growing. She sleeps well, and ideally, we would like to see her in a home with at least one right-matched personality-fit dog. We will strongly lean towards homes that have at least one or two right-matched personality fit dogs. She also absolutely needs a strong doggie friend network in the community. That is so important. We have friends; she needs friends, too. It is important for her to have doggie friends to continue to work on her manners. Another dog will help with her structure in new surroundings, yet we do not wish to see her in a home that has a dog that she will rely heavily on or they on her.

Good With Cats: Unknown. He has been okay with the clinic cat, but the clinic cat is not really a cat!

Good with Pocket Pets: Unknown

Good with Children: We prefer a NO small children home. She has gone through more than enough in her life, and we want her as the priority in a right-matched, forever-loving home! She deserves to be the big focus in the home. We will consider homes with children 13 and older and no more than two children in the house.

Grooming: She needs regular grooming to keep her coat healthy and look his best. Regular grooming includes nails and ears.

Car: She travels well in the car.

Housebroken/crate Trained: She is housebroken and crate trained. We never recommend giving any new addition too much freedom to start. It can be very overwhelming plus too stimulating for them.

Obedience: She requires a home that will be consistent and dedicated to continuing to help her become the best dog she can be. Her potential is enormous! As per our adoption contract, a full round of group obedience is required with all of our dogs. This is not about having a dog that ‘listens.’ This is about creating a strong and mutually respectful bonding relationship, and trust and respect work both ways. It is imperative that humans give dogs reasons to trust them.

Activities Suited For Her: She would excel in being your bff. Great companion at home, a great companion for quiet/calm camping, cottaging, small hikes, and exploring new things – not in a super busy place! She could do therapy work and excel at obedience, too. Maybe some dock diving or ramp flopping!

Loves & Bad Habits: Like any dog, she is not perfect. She is perfect in all of his imperfections, though! NOT to mention so beautiful. BIG black dog syndrome is a very real thing, and that is so unfortunate. She is so lovely, yet she is opinionated. One must know how to work with her, not against her. She is not to be manhandled. Any home that thinks ruling by fear, believes in ‘dominating’ over the dog in the home, and being harsh, need not apply. She is vocal. She will tell you how she is feeling. She is very honest in her communication plus comfort level.

Anxieties/Worries: It is integral that the right-matched personality fit home and does not spend 24/7 with her. During the pandemic and even before it, we still need groceries; we should still go out and do errands; we should still get in our cars and go for a small drive to go somewhere to do something! Time has been spent having her learn to not only like but enjoy her own company. As we need our alone time, she must do too. She is a solid and stable dog; we do not want any SA behaviours to develop. It is so easy for a dog to develop said behaviours.

As we have stated for almost 30 years now, we will NEVER rush any dogs’ rehabilitation journey, we do not flip dogs, and we are not desperate to adopt them out. I had wanted to place her up for adoption about two weeks ago, yet other matters took precedence, and now it is all about her turn! Unfortunately, the timing has not worked out to get our usual professional photos of her.

We will always place up for adoption the dogs that can be adopted and safe haven all others that cannot be placed up for adoption due to medical and/or behavioural reasons.

We do not take in hundreds of dogs yearly; we only took in 1 dog in 2025 as it is about helping the next in need of us, giving them top-quality care, and not about taking in numbers. We have taken in none in 2026 as of yet. Finances are extremely tight in the rescue at this time.

After 29+ years, we know that we cannot please everyone, which means that BHRR is not the rescue to be followed, supported, and believed in by everyone. We remain small plus mighty, and as we go through this next transitional stage for BHRR, we shall continue to operate with a zero-tolerance approach, providing and going above and beyond in care to the animals.

Our mandates have never changed and will remain the same as long as we are around; the animals shall always be done right by us as our priority.

Our adoption success rates remain second to no other group – 100% for over ten years of operating, and now almost 99% as we go through year 30, and we are excited as we go through this slow transition for BHRR!

You have done a THUMBS up job, as has your fantabulous foster home, BHRR’s Amata(Amy), and we are thrilled you are making your special announcement!

So many of us adore you to bits and pieces!

BHRR Animals Available For Adoption

This is a blog post, updated regularly as to who is available for adoption and the ‘quick’ status of others not yet available for adoption.
NOTE: This blog post is on each of the dogs’ individual pages.
All of our available dogs can also be found on our PetFinder website.
*To read a dog’s blog, scroll to the very bottom of that dog’s individual page and read upwards, skipping over any posts such as fundraiser posts. They will answer most of your questions re: age, history etc.*

**NOTE: As of December 1st, 2016; BHRR shall no longer be responding to any inquires to adopt. We are following the lead of other r/q organizations and ONLY completed adoption applications submitted to the BHRR BOD shall be considered/responded to.**

BHRR is a federally registered NP organization and requires an application/contract to be filled out, personal references including a vet reference if applicable and a home visit to be done before being approved to adopt.

We also require that at the time of meeting any BHRR animal (after completing the application process up to that point) that the whole family + any other currently owned animals are present for the mandatory home-visit.

BHRR only places per best/right matched personality fit.

We also require that within four months of having adopted your new addition that at least one full round/session of group classes of obedience (they can range from 6-18 weeks) must be started and upon completion; proof (registration + completion) must be submitted to BHRR’s attention at BHRR and with having your signature on the adoption application/contract; you will be in a legal breach of your contract should this not be done. The animal involved will have to be returned promptly & safely to BHRR at your own expense.

Fingers crossed!

She will also have her annual.

GENTLE REMINDER: all Secret Santa pressies should be dropped off by December 16th, so I have the time to get them delivered before XMAS!

So precious!

Still working on getting her in for her next recheck…

Miss Amy!

Mr. Albar wants to share some news……

He is moving under a PENDING ADOPTION!

Since the rescue of him and his littermates, there have only been two applications submitted for him.

The first chose Miss Beverly (which did make us happy as either puppy would have been a great fit, yet her brindle colouring(the only one) and his gorgeous black, made him less likely to have as many interested in him moving forward. We love our BBBBB’s! Others do not.

It made our hearts heavy at that hv, for Mr. Albar truly adored the male in the house and did all that he could to be chosen.

If Miss Bev was not going to be a great fit, neither one would have been adopted, for Mr. Albar deserves to be first, not second or last.

I am now trying to find the black lab quilt I won, as I always said I would either do a draw with all homes that adopted a Bean, or give it to the home that was approved to adopt the last standing Bean.

Nothing is final yet, as we need to do the HV and see how Mr. Albar feels about the humans, their present dog, and two cats. AND of course, how all in the home feel about him!

I am also gearing up to bring Mr. Dimitri back into my home in prep for his upcoming sx.

I am still trying to get that final recheck on Miss Amy to hopefully see her make a special announcement all of her own!

Happy Monday to all!

How the dogs choose to spend the chilly Canadian winter wonderland!

Works for me as I am feeling a wee bit under the weather, yet I do need to gather up strength, as my shipping container FINALLY arrived yesterday late afternoon.

We still have three amazing dogs in need of a special SS – Mr. Albar, Mr. Romeo, and Mr. Lewis.

Unfortunately, Mr. Dimtri is heading back to the vet for 1:30 pm today.

His foster noted a few drops of bloody urine, and in looking at a sample they collected, it is very dark plus cloudy.

This means more vet bills….

He has a surgery coming up in December, also, on the 17th. I work hard to ensure no dog goes without. That is my promise/commitment to them.

The picture below is from his October vet appointment, where I needed to bring him in to look at his mouth. He was sedated and very closely monitored due to his weight and concern with heart overload.

We have had virtually no fundraisers in 2025 – this is due to several reasons, including my move, preparing, and now recovering from a major surgery.

This has also limited helping more than Miss Sophie in 2025 to date.

If anyone may consider a donation to his cause, any donation can be made via PayPal or email transfer to contactbhrr@gmail.com

I understand and know too well how limited funds are for so many of us, and would appreciate any consideration….

Thanks in advance, and I will update after his appointment. This Vet was amazing to fit him in so soon, and while it is not one we get a discount at, the priority is to have Mr. Dimitri seen.

Thanks for reading!

Pretty girl!

Miss Sophie!

Miss Amy!

We are just waiting for her recheck, then hopefully have her make her special announcement.

Her ortho specialist has been away.

A recent video of her on Facebook is below!

Look at all of that green grass still where she is!

We are still working on paying off the remaining almost $4,000 on her vet bills.

If anyone has any new items to donate or a gift certificate/card for an online auction, please do let us know!

Happy Sunday wishes to all of her friends plus supporters!

This is Tango – he is a GSP born January 16th, 2020
**HE IS A REHOMING SITUATION**

He was bought for my son. He has been a huge part of his life and world.

When my son moved out in November 2023, I continued to take care of Tango. I have paid all his vet bills since he was a puppy- from neutering to an emergency fb sx, PPQ’s, annuals, bloodwork, flea/tick/heartworm meds, food, treats, dog coats, collar/leashes, trained and kept him fit, happy, stimulated, healthy, etc.

My son is still not in a position to take his dog.

As of October 11th, I then moved from almost 150 acres, 3+ safely fenced with another safely fenced-in smaller side yard, to 1.65 acres, and although I fenced in a large area, it is not enough for Tango. He has always loved to scale things and dig, and that is who he is. I am currently at my maximum capacity for personal dogs. Yes, Salt is over 10.5 years, yet he is still very much alive and present.

Tango is used to hills, trails, forests, and my version of ‘running’, and I kept my son updated since he moved out that I would keep Tango for him as long as I could. Hoping that my son would find himself in a position sooner rather than later to be able to take Tango back.

Tango does have some anxiety. He is not on meds, yet like all dogs, he needs consistency, stability, and structure.

With my having major surgery on October 12th, this has been a big topic of conversation between my son and me.

Tango is his dog. He has asked for my assistance in re-homing Tango, having nearly 30 years of experience working in rescue.

If you have gotten this far, what Tango needs is a new place to call his home.

He is excellent with other dogs and people, is housebroken, crate-trained, and is not a hunting dog – the sound of even a nail gun doing renovations has made him submissive urinate. He is a cherished indoor dog and up to date on vaccines. He is full of personality, affectionate, loves with his whole heart, and wags his entire body with the best wiggles!

There is a rehoming fee of $400, a screening, and a contract that must be signed. He is to come back to our family for any reason that a new home cannot keep him.

The last GSP we took into our rescue lived to almost 15 years old. Tango is not even six as of yet.

My heart is heavy….mostly for Tango.

Sooooo, this handsome dude has some news…

Now, we are still going through the adoption application process yet….he wanted to share….

Keep Mr. Albar, one of our very special Beans, in your thoughts and best wishes!

We finally received an adoption application for him….and if it is not meant to be, he is cherished forever, no matter what!

Picked up the beds to sweep – white Dane hair so visible….sweeping is a three-times-a-day task still! – AND Miss Thing decided two beds are better than one!

Settling in for a snooze in the rays of the sun shining in….

Miss Sophie is still waiting for a foster to adopt or an approved adoptive home.

Two more photos from Miss Amy’s surgery. Two of the femur pieces that were interfering with her ability to properly heal.

It’s time for a long-overdue Miss Amy update!

Miss Amy was so excited when she arrived for surgery, ready to visit some of her most favourite people in the whole wide world!

She had her surgery that was scheduled to remove her femur on September 26th, yet as the ortho surgery followed the fistula path of where the incision had not been healing, two bone fragments from her femur were found.

These were the cause of her body continually trying to heal – yet could not – since the dehistence and ensuing complications.

When everything went necrotic, two of the three bacteria found were from fecal contamination – pieces of her weakened femur were then chipped off.

So the bone chip fragments were removed, she kept her femur, and Miss Sophie spent the night, and her foster picked her up the following evening.

We are now trying to schedule her in for a recheck to be sure all is, in fact, finally healing up, so that she can then make her own special announcement!

$456 has been generously raised towards her vet bills – this latest surgery bill is almost $1,600, as I also wanted her to have heartworm and tick-borne disease testing done and to have more flea/tick and heartworm medication dispensed.

Over $3,000 is still owing from previous vet bills for her.

If anyone has any items that they would consider donating to an online auction, please do let us know!

Today’s photo!

BHRR’s Athos(one of the 3 Musketeers), Miss Sophie, and the last Bean, BHRR’s Albar.

Mr. Albar & Miss Sophie remain AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

Miss Sophie is slightly on the dog bed!!

Miss Sophie!

Her first morning in our new home – she remains AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

Today is all about BHRR’s Dimitri.

I picked him up from his foster home last week, as they discovered some mouth issues.

This is also a great opportunity to get my hands on him, as I have not seen or done so since he was neutered.

His foster lives a distance away, and when it comes to dropping off food donations, we tend to meet up in Kingston.

I want to investigate his weight. He should not weigh more than 140-145 tops. He has been close to 160.

Now that I have him, I am going to test his thyroid to rule out that being an issue.

He has gone from emaciated to chonky!

He is now another BHRR dog that we need to fundraise for…..

It never ends in rescue…..and we will ensure that he is done right by…

If anyone has anything – new or a gift card, etc., to donate to an online auction, please do reach out…

Thanks in advance for any consideration!!

Miss Amy is scheduled for her femur removal surgery tomorrow, Friday, September 26th

This estimate does not include her heartworm and tick-borne disease blood test, which shall also be completed.

I am still paying off her previous remaining bills, still close to $3,000, and then I will have her vet bill from tomorrow. She is so worthy…to anyone who has met her, it is to know how incredibly amazing she is! She would have had every right to be bitter towards humans, yet she is the most loving of girls!

Please consider donating a brand new item or a gift card to auction off to help her!

This is a photo of her, and nope, I do not see her on the couch!! The no couch rule is clearly being adhered too!!!

I wish I had better news about Miss Amy.

The thought process for some time was that she may require more surgery – this time to remove the femur bone.

Last night, her orthopedic specialist made the decision that this is what needs to be done to ensure the leg heals properly.

While I knew this was where we most likely would end up due to all of her complications post-amputation, it was still a big blow.

She was surrounded by so much love last night. Barbara M. even drove in to spend time with her and watch over her as I was working.

She saw so many of her fav people and now weighs a bit chubby, 35.5 kgs.

As happy as ever to get love and to visit all of us.

I have requested an estimate so we can begin to try to fundraise more for her. I am still paying off almost $3,000 for her.

I committed to her and we will ensure that she is healed prior to being placed up for adoption.

This picture is of her being a ‘boat baby’.

If people have any items for fundraising or ideas to help raise money for her, please do let us know.

Until her and Miss Sophie’s bills are paid off, I am limited in intake, being a small rescue that focuses strongly on the special needs.

Any donations to her vet bills can be made:

Miss Amy, UPDATE:

Behind the scenes, her incredible foster mama has been bringing her to her regular Vet visits.

This is over a 3-hour drive one way, and they have been absolutely outstanding with their dedication to BHRR’s Amy.

Miss Amy had her eye enucleation and leg amputation on February 12th. She has battled post op complications ever since.

She has been on no less than four kinds of antibiotics, an antibiotic cream, warm and cold compresses, and wearing a cone.

We are still fighting the good fight – and still battling complications.

Her foster mama tries to give her some closely supervised time without her cone.

We still owe close to $3,000 for her vet bills.

If you have any items to donate to help raise money, please do reach out!

We would be so grateful for the support!

She is growing up to be so unbelievably gorgeous!

AND if anyone may consider a donation towards gas for Miss Sophie’s amazing foster Mama, donations can be made via PayPal or email transfer to contactbhrr@gmail.com

She is making regular drives to EVC & as we all know, gas is not cheap.

Another photo of BHRR’s Sophie @ EVC!

A ‘boop’ photo!

Miss Sophie is doing well!

We checked her over closely at EVC and weighed her: 25.9 kgs. We can confirm to those who have asked that BHRR does have her microchipped.

She is urinating well, has had a BM, eating and drinking, and we are watching closely for signs of a possible FB, as she was on the loose for over 20 hours. She would have been hungry.

As she is in heat, this nightmare experience shall change her spay surgery. As always, we will not get into a discussion regarding puppies having puppies, should she have become pregnant while she was loose, and in/near a dog park. She is 10 months old herself. We are also still working on getting her healthy.

Last Thursday, we had a detailed conversation with her Vet/Surgeon, and we have a new plan in place for her.

The detailed bloodwork that we did at the end of May – low T4, and indicators that she was possibly Addisonian – though not symptomatic – and was dehydrated even 6 days post arrival, we will be repeating some bloodwork and sending it out again prior to performing sx.

So many owners and rescue groups never do any bloodwork prior to surgery, let alone repeat it. We also did clotting factor testing as she is a Doberman. We will always go above and beyond for our dogs.

Almost 30 years of doing responsible rescue, and we are still exposed to people who should know better and still choose not to adhere to what is in the best interest of a dog, and set them up for failure, and this is deeply shocking. BHRR’s Sophie could have been seriously injured or even killed.

To be very clear, and we do have the detailed documentation, the first foster chose to stop fostering BHRR’s Sophie the first time, and then again this time after she was found. BHRR’s Sophie shall not be going back to them.

The Founder reached out to them to join the search as they had temp-fostered BHRR’s Sophie for two+ weeks when the second foster lost her within an hour of getting her, and we remain grateful that they came out.

We will also be very public in continuing to state per our clearly posted policies that we will never place a dog up for adoption until they are ready, will never adopt out a dog unaltered, we do not flip dogs, and we will not bow down to any demands. We will do what is in our dogs’ best interest and will not deviate from our successful mandates. This is not an unreasonable position as a r/q rescue. Every group out there will have similar and also different mandates, and every r/q organization does what they believe to be in the best interests of the dogs under their authority.

With BHRR’s Sophie, when/if her time comes to be placed up for adoption, any home approved to adopt her will have to follow their legally signed adoption contract. We shall not consider any homes outside of our known approved network. We are committed to our dogs for life, their life.

Members of BHRR are so grateful that so many reached out to advise us that one of our dogs was loose. That is how we were initially informed that she was missing.

In close to 30 years of operating, there is an unreasonable expectation that our rescue has to have control over everything, while at the same time, that same control should not apply to some people. Double standards abound.

All we can do is proper due diligence, and if homes choose to ignore important guidelines regarding safety and setting our dogs and their homes up for success, we are only going to know and find out when/what we know.

We are an all-volunteer foster-based group, and we gladly give of ourselves 24/7 with sacrifices. Social media is both a blessing and a curse.

To those who feel/speak that they can do better, please do. Walk your talk. Lord knows we need more r/q groups out there!

BHRR’s Sophie, you are safe. We steadfastly shouldered some ‘armchair quarterback’ nonsense, and take the continued serious responsibility of ensuring you are done right by.

She is going to be just fine. She is going to learn that she can stand on her own feet, that she can self-soothe and self-comfort, that she does not deserve to be pitied, babied, or felt sorry for. She does not feel sorry for herself. We want her to become the best dog she can be, and she shall!

She is a product of her past—RIP to her original owner—but she lives in her present, and BHRR, along with her fans/supporters, looks to her wonderful future!

UPDATE: BHRR’s Sophie is safe at this time with the person who was her first foster.

The Founder strongly felt that if anyone could get Miss Sophie, it would be them and their dog, as that is who she was with for 2.5 weeks.

The Founder was up close to 40 hours straight, and after their overnight work shift, headed out with two work colleagues to search for her. The Founder notified all Veterinary Clinics in the area, all of BHRR’s extensive close to 800 rescue contacts in Ontario/Quebec, BHRR’s close network with HS’s, SPCA’s, by-laws, animal welfare groups, put up posters, gave out posters to bus drivers, taxi cabs, set up a Facebook group, worked on getting a drone(through an amazing BHRR foster!), made contact with local radio stations etc., to get BHRR’s Sophie back safely into our care.

After barely getting two hours rest, and not a good one at that, The Founder came across a post from a friend and then others, along with messages and calls sent to our rescue that BHRR’s Sophie had been found. The Founder was then back to work for another long overnight shift. Rescue is 24/7.

The sheer terror that has been felt by those of us at BHRR.

Thank you to all who banded together to help BHRR find her after she went missing from this second foster home, ~1 hour after they got her.

*****EMERGENCY*****

I have just learned – thanks to our amazing Network for alerting us – that one of our dogs in foster care is running loose:

UPDATE: She was last seen running on Autumn Ridge Road off Jeanne D’Arc.

The Founder has contacted her first foster, and they are on the way. BHRR’s Sophie knows them and her dog.

If anyone is available to assist, please advise.

Sophie is extremely skittish…..

She was moved to a new foster Tuesday night.

Here is a copy of BHRR’s Sophie’s von Willebrand factor (vWF:Ag) von Willebrand factor (VWF:Ag) = von Willebrand factor antigen measured in an ELISA testing.

Additionally, here is what her Vet has passed along to date regarding the other bloodwork that we have done so far.

“Sophie’s lab results came back with evidence of dehydration, NA/K ratio is 26 (concern of Addison, but she has no signs), also the ALP is slightly increased, T4 is borderline low. Negative 4 DX”

In having an in-depth conversation with her Veterinarian, who will also be her surgeon, we will repeat the blood work the day before she is scheduled for surgery. According to her Veterinarian, this will give enough time for the results to come back, be reviewed, and if necessary, her surgery can be rescheduled, etc.

Through no fault of her own, Miss Sophie, the 10-month-old Doberman, is in need of a new foster.

The Foster must be able to bring her to Vet appointments in Kanata, Ontario, so they should reside within 1.5-2 hours from there.

Some history: Miss Sophie was found in a home, along with a GS with her deceased Owner.

After being able to decompress for a month+(Sophie was understandably traumatised) with the GS breeder who was so kind to take her in when she took back her female GS to prevent Sophie from having to go to a shelter or be euthanised, we moved her to our rescue, BHRR.

We transported her to our Rescue, Birch Haven Rescue & Rehabilitation Services(BHRR), 10 days ago, and had her fully vetted on Friday, May 30th, after giving her some time to settle.

She is up-to-date on vaccines, dewormed, and on flea/tick/hw preventative. We performed bloodwork, including for tickborne disease/heartworm(negative), pre-op bloodwork, and are presently waiting on her clotting factor bloodwork results so that we can prepare to properly spay her when the time comes.

She weighed 55.66 pounds on Friday.

We also did a vaginal cytology on her.

We provide the food, dog bed, collars, leashes, bowls, some toys, treats, and you provide the safe refuge for her to continue to learn to be a dog, develop manners – she knows basic obedience, be safe, and be cherished!

She is good with humans, dogs – lived with big and little dogs, is skittish, yet Benny bully treats are your friend!

Please do email contactbhrr@gmail.com if you can assist.

Her vet bills on Friday were over $700, and we had one very kind, generous donation of $100 that has gone towards her bills.

On May 10th, we lowered his food down to 8 cups from 8.5 cups. He is still quite chunky.

I am waiting for his current weight as of today.

This photo is from May 25th.

He remains AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

AND Miss Sophie is now with her foster mama!

All tethered up safely by her foster mama and ready to go!

Tiny thing!

So pretty!

Still travelling well. Long day yet ever closer to your new beginning, BHRR’s Sophie!

We are still seeking toys for her. Durable and enriching!

At just before 11 AM today, Miss Sophie, the Doberman puppy (who was found along with her GS companion in the home with their deceased Owner) began her journey to BHRR.

For the last month, we have kept her with the GS breeder to allow her to decompress due to how traumatised she was.

She is travelling well, understandably stressed, yet liver treats are helping her to make friends, and she should be in my hands for around 6 pm
tonight.

Thank you again to Katie for stepping up to foster her for me.

Another precious life will be saved….

She is the first that I have been able to assist in 20,25 as Miss Amy and the rest of the BHRR crew need their own gold standard care.

Thanks to Leanne B., I have a dog bed for her, a small super-soft fleece throw, and I am donating a leash/collar that I have not yet used for one of my Setters. Thanks to Pet Valu Brockville, two large bags of fish-based Acana food will be hers.

She does need toys – toys that are durable and enriching.

If you would like to make a donation of toys, please email contactbhrr@gmail.com to arrange a drop-off, or you can make a financial donation to contactbhrr@gmail.com. and we will buy some for her!

Thank you in advance for any consideration.

While this group may appear to be quiet, behind the scenes, it is anything but!

She will need to be properly vetted, including spayed, and to have bloodwork, so fundraising efforts remain a priority!

Soon, baby girl…we shall meet very soon.

Meet Miss Sophie – She is our first rescue assist for 2025! We are always about quality, not quantity.

We first posted about Miss Sophie on April 12th in our network.

We have all of the legal documentation for her surrender and will be working on transport shortly!

We are ISO: a dog bed for her to call her very own, and her own collar/leash. Please do EMAIL if you would like to make a donation or to donate a collar and/or leash for her. We would be seeking a 18-22″ cloth martingale collar. We do not believe in choke, or prong collars, nor shock.

Miss Sophie is an almost 10-month-old female Doberman(Born: July 20th, 2024), who was found in her home along with a female GS with their deceased Owner. She was extremely traumatised, and very skittish. Quite understandable.

The GS breeder took her in and gave her a safe place to decompress and begin her healing journey.

She is:
Good with dogs
Good with people, including children
Cats Unknown
Up to date on Vaccines – we will give additional vaccines, plus do bloodwork, including testing for heartworm and tickborne disease exposure
Dewormed – back in the fall was the last time – we will do further de-worming and place her on flea/tick/hw medication

*Yes, her ears were cropped by either her breeder or her past owner. We will not be drawn into a discussion regarding the cropping and/or docking of ears.

As she was purchased off Kijiji, no breeder information can be traced back to her.

We are working on her transport now, and if all goes well, she will be fostered in a home that already has a 6-year-old male Doberman.

Here is an update from BHRR’s Dimitri’s Foster Mama.

He remains AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

“Dimitri is doing great. Hes always happy and wagging his tail. He loves to play with my dog Ducky. I will send new photos this weekend and get a new weight for you.

He loves his crate and isn’t showing signs of separation anxiety. His coat is looking beautiful.”

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

BHRR’s Dimitri is AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!
Great Dane

Health Status: HEALTHY!

Age: ~2.5 years – Born: ~November 2022

Weight: 158 pounds in April 2025. We want to keep him lean/muscled and fit. Becoming fat is NOT in her or any dog’s best interest. We have asked his lovely foster home to cut back on his food – he was getting 9 cups daily. He is going to be fed 8.5 cups a day for now, as he has become a bit chubby.

Some information from his wonderful foster mama:

‘Wonderful with kids, wonderful with dogs, will chew things around the house sometimes. Great in crate and car. A little nervous in new situations but works through it. Walks better on leash when walked on his own. Usually great on leash. Gentle, loving boy.’

Type of Home Ideal For BHRR’s Dimitri: He needs a solid structure. He interacts well with people/dogs he meets, and we hope for a quiet, socially low-active level home. A residence that, while visiting family plus friends and having people over, does not host frequent BBQs or gatherings of large groups. We do not want to see him in a home with a high level of travel, with other people taking care of him. He can be somewhat nervous/worried in new situations, so he needs a calm and confident home. A home that shall not baby him and continue to show him how amazing this big, wonderful world can be! He is loyal and loves his people, and we want him to be part of the family if they go camping, go to the cottage, or do other fun travels. He is nervous at first in social settings and needs a home that shall work with him. One that shall not overwhelm him and will continue to work on his leash manners. He would adore cottage life or hang out at home with his family. Visiting friends, family, pet stores, and pet-friendly places is excellent, too, as long as they are not too busy. We want a quietly active home for BHRR’s Dimitri. He is super sweet. A big hit at my work!

He MUST go to a home that will continue to work on exposing him to new, fun, and beautiful things in the world. Time, patience, and effort have made him comfortable, not only to like but also to love his own company. We are not advocates of dog parks. Many private properties rent out space for acreage rentals so that he can enjoy a controlled environment to run and zoom in.

We want him to look forward to the next adventures plus experiences. He needs a home that will give him new positive and significant, safe, memorable experiences along with structure, consistency, obedience, plus patience. If you are a home that likes to take infrequent walks/hikes/strolls, BHRR’s Dimitri is not for you…he is a healthy dog and needs to be kept emotionally and physically stimulated. He would make a great companion to get out into nature, explore on your days off, and enjoy the beach and other small, exciting adventures! He is the best companion when watching movies or curled up with a good book.

A home that understands and shall continue to help him learn about this big, fantastic world that we live in. We want him to live a quality-filled, enriched life. He is being fostered in a lovely home outside the Ottawa area and can equally live comfortably in the city or country.

We want him to be happy and to live his best life every day. We want him to reach his full, incredible potential!

He is another versatile BHRR dog! He can be in a home that works ft; pt works from home, is semi-retired or retired, etc. He will ONLY go to a home prepared to ensure he receives the balance he requires with proper exercise, socialisation, etc., along with positive, balanced obedience.

He does need to go to a dog-experienced home, not specifically a Dane-specific experienced home. The home must be committed to his obedience, structure, and consistency, and to be patient, kind, and understanding, and while not hermits, they are not doing a hundred things each day, weekly, or monthly. We want him to be treated as a beloved member in a right-matched, forever-loving home. We want him to be an invaluable member of his forever-loving adoptive home! He needs that right positive balance between patience, reassurance, passively ignoring, and being kind/gentle with him. He is fed in a quiet place and knows that he will be fed enough food on time and that no one will take it away. He arrived at BHRR emaciated.

He loves home and a small group of friends. He needs this stability.

Personality/Temperament: Super loving, affectionate, calm, happy, and incredibly sweet; he loves to get outside to romp and run and is a delightful boy! He needs to be emotionally/physically properly stimulated, quietly social, active, gentle, plus kind. He thrives with consistency, structure, routine, and clear open communication to understand precisely what is expected of him. He is very smart in his own way, active, and healthy puppy!

Previous Dog Experience: Previous Dog experience is required per the above, and he needs a home that is going to be committed to his wellbeing and make the small adjustments required as he is still an adolescent, still learning, and still mentally plus physically growing. He sleeps well, and ideally, while we would like to see him in a home with at least one right-matched personality-fit dog, it is not a deal breaker. We will strongly lean towards homes that have at least one right-matched personality fit dog though. He absolutely needs a strong doggie friend network in the community, though. That is so important. We have friends; he needs friends too. It is important for him to have doggie friends to continue to work on his manners. Another dog will help with his confidence in new surroundings, yet we do not wish to see him in a home that has a dog that he will rely heavily on and not learn to stand on his own ‘four’ feet.

Good With Cats: Unknown. He has been okay with the clinic cat, but the clinic cat is not really a cat!

Good with Pocket Pets: Unknown

Good with Children:  He is excellent with small children! He resides in a foster home that is almost 6 years old. We feel that any right-matched personality fit home for BHRR’s Dimitri can have children. We will consider homes with children six and older and no more than two children in the house.

Grooming: He needs regular grooming to keep his coat healthy and look his best. Regular grooming includes nails and ears.

Car: He travels well in the car.

Housebroken/crate Trained: He is housebroken and crate trained. We never recommend giving any new addition too much freedom to start. It can be very overwhelming plus too stimulating for them.

Obedience: He requires a home that will be consistent and dedicated to continuing to help him become the best dog he can be. His potential is enormous! As per our adoption contract, a full round of group obedience is required with all of our dogs. This is not about having a dog that ‘listens.’ This is about creating a strong and mutually respectful bonding relationship, and trust and respect work both ways. It is imperative that humans give dogs reasons to trust them.

Activities Suited For Him: He would excel in being your bff. Great companion at home, a great companion for quiet/calm camping, cottaging, small hikes, and exploring new things – not in a super busy place!

Loves & Bad Habits:  Like any dog, he is not perfect. He is perfect in all of his imperfections, though! NOT to mention so handsome. BIG black dog syndrome is a very real thing, and that is so unfortunate. He is so lovely, kind and gentle. His leash manners have come a very long way. So proud of him!

Anxieties/Worries: It is integral that the right-matched personality fit home and does not spend 24/7 with him. During the pandemic and even before it, we still need groceries; we should still go out and do errands; we should still get in our cars and go for a small drive to go somewhere to do something! Time has been spent having him learn to not only like but enjoy her own company. As we need our alone time, he must do too. He is a solid and stable dog; we do not want any SA behaviours to develop. It is so easy for him to develop that. Such a sensitive boy!

As we have stated for over 29 years now, we will NEVER rush any dogs’ rehabilitation journey, we do not flip dogs, and we are not desperate to adopt them out. I had wanted to place him up for adoption about 6 weeks ago, yet other matters took precedence, and now it is all about his turn! Unfortunately, the timing has not worked out to get our usual professional photos of him.

We will always place up for adoption the dogs that can be adopted and safe haven all others that cannot be placed up for adoption due to medical and/or behavioural reasons.

We do not take in hundreds of dogs yearly; we only took in 3 dogs in 2024 as it is about helping the next in need of us, giving them top-quality care, and not about taking in numbers. We have taken in none in 2025 as of yet. Finances are extremely tight in rescue at this time.

After 29+ years, we know that we cannot please everyone, which means that BHRR is not the rescue to be followed, supported, and believed in by everyone. We remain small plus mighty, and as we go through this next transitional stage for BHRR, we shall continue to operate with a zero-tolerance approach, providing and beyond care to the animals.

Our mandates have never changed and will remain the same as long as we are around; the animals shall always be done right by as our priority.

Our adoption success rates remain second to no other group – 100% for over ten years of operating, and now 99% as we go through year 29, and we are excited as we go through this slow transition for BHRR!

You have done a THUMBS up job, as has your fantabulous foster home, BHRR’s Dimitri, and we are thrilled you are making your special announcement!

It’s so hard to get proper photos of Miss Maybelle Cutie & Mr. Albar!

Snow monster for her & in my face for him!

Both of these amazing Beans, remain Available For Adoption.

My plan is to try and have new professional photos done of them…..

ISO: A donation towards or of a gas card(s).

This is for Miss Amata’s(Amy’s) foster home.

We have busted Miss Amy out of the clinic – who has spent since her amputation and eye enucleation on February 12th, no less than a month in the Hospital.

She has had no less than seven additional sedated procedures since her amputation to save her.

Her wonderful foster mama resides several hours away from EVC and has made two drives already for Miss Amy to have rechecks. Miss Amy remains on high doses of pain medication and antibiotics, including having an antibiotic cream to now pack into and around the open drainage area on the amputation site.

The last cytology I did – on Wednesday AM – has found more bacteria inside her amputation site.

Her healing journey has been fraught with so much worry, stress, and expenses, and her mental health is as important as her physical health, so her JP drain was pulled, and she was busted out of the Hospital. If she needs to be re-admitted for any reason(s), we have zero hesitation. Her incredible Veterinary team, which includes the practice owner and the rest of her ortho/in-hospital team, have been by her and my side with fantastic support, reassurance, encouragement, and unbelievable caring kindness.

The tears I have shed, the questions and worry I have had…the strain, plus the lack of sleep I have been under trying to do right by Amy have been unprecedented and intense. This is not my first amputation – this is #39, yet the first I have not fostered myself, and I have been making myself available 24/7 to be there for her foster home. I understand more than anyone the rehabilitation journey these surgeries require, and I have assured her foster home many times over that they are not alone.

We do not have a closer, amazing foster home for Miss Amy, so that is not an option. Miss Amy has settled in beautifully into this medical foster.

In my efforts to keep paying off her extensive bills, almost $15,000 since November, I also want to continue supporting her foster home as strongly as I can.

One way is to help pay for gas for these rechecks—her next one needs to be next week—and I am hoping, begging even, if anyone may consider making a donation to help pay for gas—either via a PayPal or email transfer donation to contactbhrr@gmail.com or donating a gas card(s).

Thank you, everyone, in advance for your possible consideration…

Stay tuned!

Sneak peek of what shall be up for grabs to help Miss Amy!

Thank you, Cassy M.

It is an odd request, yet it is for Miss Amy!

Amy is on no less than 12 pills daily, and she only wants Peanut Butter to take her pills.

We have run out of peanut butter at work, and I forgot the new jar I bought at home when I came to work tonight.

Is there anyone in the area of Eagleson Veterinary Clinic in Kanata who either has a jar—smooth PB only—to spare or could buy one to drop off tonight for her?

I am so happy to pay for it!!

If you can, please drop off a jar. We are a 24/7 clinic.

Thanks in advance. Here is Miss Amy for the tax!

AND a small update on Mr. Dimitri from his foster home.

Additionally, I have been trying to schedule his own professional photo shoot so he can make a special announcement, and it has had to be put off with two devastating losses in January, bad weather, Miss Amy’s emergency needs etc.

Hoping to be able to do so over the next couple of weeks.

‘Wonderful with kids, wonderful with dogs, will chew things around the house sometimes. Great in crate and car. A little nervous in new situations but works through it. Walks better on leash when walked on his own. Usually great on leash. Gentle, loving boy.’

The graphic photos from March 3rd – All of this is also posted as an update on her GoFundMe page.

We still need to raise another $3,500

***GRAPHIC PHOTOS ***

Miss Amy’s leg after her March 2nd latest procedure.

Last night, we did another sedated procedure to clean out Miss Amy’s amputation incision site and to re-apply a new sugar bandage.

Since Friday, she has had three sedated procedures to address her infection.

Below are some photos.

She will have to remain at Eagleson Veterinary Clinic for an undetermined amount of time.

We continue to fundraise to pay off her bills.

UPDATE: Miss Amy had her debridement surgery, beginning at 3 AM on Monday, February 24th. It took just over two hours, and I feel truly blessed to have been her surgery technician. The first picture is her incision after surgery, including a Penrose drain.

Unfortunately, by the time she went for her first walk at 8 AM post-op, her incision had re-opened due to the tension on the amputation site – inflammation, swelling, infection, etc.

Eighteen staples and more sutures were added that I do not have a picture of.

Today, Friday, February 28th, I went to pick her up to bring her to her foster. I finished my latest four overnights yesterday morning and stayed up all day so that I would sleep last night, and when I walked in, you could smell the infection.

I went to grab one of the Vets after I was told by one of the team that it started getting bad last night and worse overnight, and as soon as I had taken a look, I asked a Vet to please examine it. The smell plus discharge was terrible. The Vet took a look at it, examined her incision, and stated she could not leave and needed more surgery. Then the owner of the practise came over, took a look at it, and also said she could not leave either, and they put a treatment plan in place. Her ortho specialist also became involved, and the three of them and myself, along with another tech, did her next procedure after I placed her catheter.

This was her leg after we removed the staples and sutures.

She will now have sugar bandages every two days, have a longer course of Baytril antibiotics dispensed, stay on pain meds, and remain at work while we try to get on top of this infection.

It’s not surprising her weight is down….

She has a wonderful group of people at work surrounding her with much love and support!

We continue to fundraise for her mounting bills. New bills are just under $3,700.

Right now, BHRR is closed for intake as Miss Amy needs her army. I am committed to all of my dogs, and each one will receive everything they need and more.

Please consider donating your Empties, or if you have an item for an online auction for her, do email contactbhrr@gmail.com

February 24th surgery – Miss Amy’s amputation site before and after.

Here is her gofundme link. OR you can donate by PayPal or email transfer to contactbhrr@gmail.com

I am just leaving from visiting with Miss Amy at EVC.

Yesterday and today were to be my two days off before I returned to my next week of overnights as of tomorrow…no rest in sight!

Very graphic photo….

Her amputation incision site.

The decision may be to go in overnight for her subsequent surgery, as the necrosis is increasing exponentially. Waiting until at least tomorrow for more stability may not be an option.

To date, we have received $310 generously donated, and one auction item is up for grabs on the Online Fundraising Auction for Birch Haven Rescue and Rehabilitation page.

Still seeking items to pull together an emergency auction for her, please do email contactbhrr@gmail.com

Thank you!

As I believe in full disclosure and work to operate BHRR with integrity and accountability, please find attached a copy of the invoice for Miss Amata’s (Amy’s) first surgery. It also includes the two bags of dog food along with the extra Gabapentin and Trazodone for Miss Amy.

I work to keep our community updated, which is why I keep begging for donations to help Miss Amy. I want her to live her best life and that she is such a worthy puppy!

Now, that she is back at EVC, and once things stabilise, going in for a second surgery, I continue to keep her army updated.

Another photo of the dehiscence of the incision site is attached.

Unfortunately, Miss Amy was rushed to EVC yesterday as her incision de-hised.

It is quite unusual at 9 days post-op, yet here we are.

We are running a culture on the site to determine what more potent antibiotics may be needed. What bacteria are we looking at? From her foster home, she went down on her first BM post-op, yet as of Tuesday, the incision appeared to be looking good.

She is back on methadone injections for pain, dispensed further antibiotics – the same type that she had been given post-op, is back on Metacam, and remains on her gabapentin. We also have her trazodone given on an as-needed basis.

She is not eating well, and her weight is down, yet that can also be explained by the fact she lost a leg.

Her eye surgical site looks excellent – yay for some great news.

Once she is stable – the necrosis happening is very real, she will head back into surgery. She will remain at EVC for a few days.

Please do reach out if anyone has anything to donate to an online auction fundraiser. It shall require many more thousands of dollars to get her through this next surgery and rehabilitation.

I met the foster at my work, and now she is all tucked into her run, and her medical treatment board is all set up.

I love this puppy so much…., and my heart is very heavy…. Over the past 29 years, we have done 39 amputations, and I fostered everyone directly myself, so I have felt a bit helpless in my efforts from afar to properly support Miss Amy’s foster home. Thank you to them for bringing her back to my work.

I also cannot wait for her to have a bath…she is so stinky! If anyone has something to donate to an emergency online auction, please email contactbhrr@gmail.com. If anyone may consider a financial donation, donations can be made via PayPal or email transfer to contactbhrr@gmail.com or via this, her gofundme account!

Please keep her in your thoughts, and thank you in advance for any consideration of her deserving cause.

Another photo of Miss Amy! Post-Op!

Miss Amy!

She was in post-op by 6:27 pm last night….due to the caseload at the Hospital – a lot of emergencies, her surgeries did not start until close to 1 pm.

AND I feel that much better about removing that left eye for whatever they hit her with, at some point left a piece of hard foreign body in her eye.

Can you imagine the pain they caused her?!!  I am so happy to have had her on a really great pain management protocol since her arrival into BHRR and that I remained sure that I wanted to have her eye removed. She could not see from it, glaucoma risk was very possible(secondary to trauma) & we needed to investigate that ‘pocket’ underneath.

She did not have the best of nights…two attempts to get her up and moving were not highly successful – three of us the first time and four the second time greatly assisted her – yet, she will get there. We have to get her up and moving and also laying on the amputation side.

She finally began to eat for me around 4-4:30 am and it was her beloved PVD Essential care puppy food wet. She has not had any in some time and so I am very happy that I brought a few cans in to try and entice her to eat.

She had a couple of chicken pill pockets too.

She did not drink for me overnight and she had some bandage complications with her catheter leg – not uncommon.

She was on a fentanyl CRI until early evening and then moved to methadone every four hours. Also on 600 mg of Gabapentin every 8 hours plus Metacam once daily.

She will need to come back in 14 days for her recheck and suture removal.

I was once told decades ago after amputation on one of the rescues that somewhere between midnight and four AM, there will be a ‘turn’….either good or bad…

AND right at 4 AM Miss Amy made a good turn and had her first few small bites of food, was more bright, and gave us some wonderful stretches.

She will remain at work for some time yet for close monitoring, then her foster will pick her up.

I have some very graphic pics, will not share here yet they have and will provide some excellent educational and professional development opportunities for the veterinary community.

More Gabapentin and Trazodone were dispensed to really be sure we have enough for her and she is also on antibiotics.

Once she heals, she can have a bath! We gave her a much-needed nail trim, too.

Her weight was just over 33 kgs heading into surgery yet that is less now with her amputation.

With the additional medical costs for meds and medical boarding in addition to what was still needed, we are short $2,000 to finish covering her vet bills.

If anyone may consider her deserving cause to support, donations can either be made via email transfer or PayPal to contactbhrr@gmail.com or via her gofundme link(they do take a fee).

AND she has now been dropped off for her leg amputation and eye enucleation surgeries.

I was over the moon to see her, as it had been so long….or at least it felt that way. She well remembered me….

I spent some quality time with her before I left work….

We are 52% towards our goal for her vet bills….

Miss Amy….I promised you a life without pain, and thanks to an army, we will make that happen….

Donations can be made via PayPal or email transfer to contactbhrr@gmail.com

AND here is her GOFUNDME Link!

***UPDATE***

$765 raised of a $500 Birthday Wish Goal! THANK YOU for helping me to reach my goal for Miss Amy!

Today is my Birthday (the 3rd) and I have never been one to ask for anything for myself….

This year, I do have one wish that I am hoping from my heart that people on my friends list will help me fulfill.

I was asked to take in a 5-month-old Rottie puppy who had endured horrific abuse.

AND despite all that she suffered, she is the sweetest and most precious of puppies. She loves everyone and is such a special girl.

I promised her a life without pain and I need your help to make this happen….

I have worked so hard along with an incredible team of angels – four different ortho specialists to confirm that I am making all of the right decisions for her, putting her on a proper nutrition program since was painfully thin, helping to build up muscle mass and tone, taking care of all of her vetting needs from vaccines to bloodwork to X-rays and more, having some incredible people foster her to allow her to be a puppy, learn to be a dog, work on manners and man, is she ever smart, etc!

She has an ‘army’ of amazing people I work with who adore her as much as I do.

The next things she needs is to have her back right leg amputated – she was kicked down some cement stairs & she needs to have her left eye removed.

She has surgery date – February 12th & I need to raise $6,000.

My birthday wish is to try and raise $500 today with your generous and caring hearts. I know it is a BIG ask.

Donations can be made via the Gofundme link below(gofundme does take a fee) or you can donate via email transfer to contactbhrr@gmail.com or PayPal to that same email.

I understand very much how tight money is for all of us. I really do. Please consider sharing if you are not able to donate.

I would do anything I could – not above begging and pleading – to help the animals in need.

If anyone would consider making a donation to help Miss Amy, I would be incredibly appreciative.

My rescue does not receive any government or corporate support. I am a small rescue that is federally registered and has been in operation since 1996. Birch Haven Rescue & Rehabilitation Services(BHRR) focuses on the giants and special needs that are often the first to be euthanised.

The costs associated with this are enormous. Food alone is 120 pounds a day being consumed.

Thank you in advance for any consideration! $5 is not too little!

Miss Amy has a surgery date – February 12th!

We are still a LONG way from raising all that she needs and I understand very much how tight money is for all of us!

Tomorrow is my Birthday(the 3rd), and I am one to not ask for anything for myself, yet, I would do anything I could – begging and pleading – to help the animals in need.

If anyone would consider making a donation to help Miss Amy, I would be incredibly appreciative.

Thank you in advance for any consideration! Even $5 is not too little!

Here is her GOFUNDME LINK!

Amy’s Army Gofund Me Fundraiser is now LIVE!

Thank you in advance for any consideration to her worthy cause!

We are trying to raise money for her back right leg amputation and her left eye enucleation surgeries.

This photo is off her at PV in Brockville on November 30th for a special event to help raise some much needed funds for her.

She was spoiled with several homes also buying her treats and toys!

Two more pics from Miss Amy’s one wonderful foster home!

Miss Amy had a fourth person ortho consult on January 9th.

We did another X-ray – last ones done were November 26th – to see where everything stands at this time.

The decision is now confirmed that we are moving forward with a leg amputation and eye enucleation. Date to be determined.

I am going to be creating a gofund me account.

To date with the wonderful fundraising and donations sent her way plus the contributions I have gladly made from my own pocket, we have been able to cover all of her bills to date – this does include her latest January 9th appointment too.

I have bought more Forti Flora – she had plenty still yet I wanted her foster home to be stocked up. I also obtained more gabapentin even though she still had over a month left. She also still has plenty of trazodone for post-op surgery.

I bought her a new 14 kg bag of large breed puppy food and Sara/Jeff plus Gamble also have offered to purchase her another bag which will give her another two+ months of dog food.

She has a bottle of Metacam that has rarely been used that shall be kept on hand for post op use too.

So the biggest focus is ensuring we have enough funds for her surgeries.

Our annual seasonal bottle drive has now ended and I have a few more bottles to return yet it looks like we will have raised almost $100 – so thank you everyone who contributed Empties to help Miss Amy!

At work she now weighed 70.84 pounds at 6 months of age. We are going to lower her food intake to 5 and 3/4’s cups of food a day from 6 cups as she was a wee bit ‘jiggly’. We do not want her too lean either, so as usual it is always a bit of an adjustment for food intake.

She spent the night with us at work and was incredible as usual. She did not drink anything so the battle continues to get her to drink water!

This is Miss Amy and the wonderful boy who tolerated her so well over the last month!

I cannot thank Sara/Jeff and Gam enough for taking excellent care of her!

She has now been moved to Erica Lee’s care for fostering as we wait for a surgery date.

Donations to her vet bills can be made via:
PayPal contactbhrr@gmail.com
Email Transfer: contactbhrr@gmail.com

Thanks in advance for any consideration!

Happy New Year!

May 2025 be the best year ever for all of us!

Miss Amata(Amy) is having her move forward ortho surgical consult, possible repeat radiographs on January 9th now that our ortho surgeon at EVC is back. She has now had four trusted ortho specialists across three locations (EVC, Capital City & Dr. Philibert’s Mobile) review her case/situation. I do not make any decisions regarding her back leg lightly. The bottom line remains that only minimal/marginal improvement is likely by trying to ‘repair’ that back right leg.

I cannot thank Sara/Jeff and Gam enough for safe housing her this past almost month, and as of the 10th she will be safely homed in her new foster home.

I cannot wait to see Miss Amy again! I know many at my work shall be equally excited.

AND I want to also thank Sara/Jeff for offering to purchase her next bag of Large Breed Puppy food.

My heart is so warmed by so many kind people in this world!

I am also trying to think of possible fundraisers to raise the remaining thousands and thousands and thousands for her two surgeries.

Our Holiday Bottle Drive ends this weekend also, so please do consider donating your Empties!

Thanks so much!

***URGENT*** ***URGENT***

As I do the final inventory for 2024, BHRR is in desperate need of the following items, should anyone consider making a donation – either of any of the item(s) or a monetary donation so I can purchase items.

1) Garbage bags of all sizes
2) Pineosol
3) Lysol Wipes
4) Packing blankets, bedspreads, comfortors, duvets, sleeping bags
5) Laundry Detergent
6) Fabric Softener
7) PVD Essential Care Large Breed Puppy kibble – for Miss Story & Miss Amata(Amy)
8. PVD Essential Care puppy wet food
9) Fish based food – Acana, Orijen – For Mr. Knox, Mr. Dimitri, Mr. Ernie
10) Giant stuffies – for Miss Amy and Miss Story. These are their surrogate littermates and mama’s. both are going to be large breed dogs, and they need stuffies suitable to their size. ?
11) Dog beds – Charly beds from Costco(they are the ‘new’ Costco Kirkland brand of dog beds)

Thank you in advance for any consideration.

I understand all too well how tight finances are for so many of us.

I beg on behalf of the animals in need of BHRR, and I have zero pride when it comes to ensuring that they get everything they need.

Happy holidays from Mr. Dimitri!

He has proven wonderful with kids and is such a hit at my work.

She is an amazing sweet puppy that went through so much, and many have failed her to date.

She is great with dogs/cats!

She is excellent with humans too!

She has been flourishing with obedience by being provided structure and consistency. She is crate trained, and house-breaking is being worked on.

She is on pain medication, a NSAID and had antibiotics as we treated her for a UTI. She can walk, she does zoom being a puppy and managing her is important – she loves the snow & it warms our hearts to see her so excited!, she loves and needs her strolls.

However, it is important for her to not overdue things both before and after surgery.
First picture is at work, and the second is at a PV Event held at the end of November at PV Brockville to help raise much needed funds for her ever mounting bills.

Today is Mr. Dimitri’s neuter day!

I dropped him off last night at work after meeting up with his foster & his roomie for a bit was Miss Story who was spayed yesterday!

Here is a copy of Miss Story’s bill.

She is now a puppy that is over $12,000. Responsible/quality rescue is expensive and the animals deserve no less than the best.

We receive no government or corporation funding to keep BHRR afloat and fundraising plus donations in 2024 brought in less than $10,000.

Yet, to these three dogs what has been accomplished in 2024 thanks to the BHRR village has been lifesaving as otherwise they would have been destroyed. So, thank you everyone for all you have done for the animals in 2024.

BHRR’s Dimitri, enjoying his first walk on a beach!

AND Miss Story!

He is scheduled to be neutered December 20th.

Miss Story is scheduled to be spayed December 19th.

Very busy and expensive times right now!

Both dogs are also in need of a special Secret Santa to call their very own.

Please do email if you may consider spoiling one of them this Xmas.

This is their very first Xmas full of love…and kindness.

UPDATE: BHRR’s Dimitri has a SS! – Thanks Julia!

Miss Amy’s back right leg x-ray November 26th, 2024.

We did both shoulders too and her other leg for comparison. She has now had three rounds of x-rays to monitor closely the changes and to ensure that she has no missed injuries.

Three ortho specialists have assured me that it is ONLY her back right leg that is broken, and that he back left is perfectly normal for a young large breed puppy.

It is time! Secret Santa!

2024 marks our 22nd annual BHRR Secret Santa to the BHRR Animals! So many other groups out there are now implementing in their organizations a similar SS event, enabling many deserving animals to be given a very special and spoiling XMAS!

Thanks SO in advance for the consideration to help us ensure that all the animals receive a most wonderful XMAS to remember! This shall be their first loving, caring XMAS for many of these dogs.

PS: This is Miss Amata(Amy) – She arrived November 17th. She has two back broken legs, needs to have an eye enucleation, has two horrific scars etc.

This photo is Miss Amy! She is coming out of sedation from her x-rays that I did last night..how adorable is she?!

She will never know another day of hardship or pain or suffering or starvation in her life.

She hopes people may consider stepping up to help us spoil the deserving BHRR animals in 2024!

NOTICE:

BHRR does not adopt during the XMAS season due to our position that it is not in the best interest of any new addition being added during such a busy, exciting, and somewhat stressful time for many.

Quite a few other Rescues, Shelters, Pounds, etc., have also begun to follow a similar protocol to what we have been doing for over 28 years.

Our XMAS Shut down period for this year is from Tuesday, December 17th, 2024, to Tuesday, January 6th, 2025, inclusive.

Any applications received during this time will be processed/reviewed as of Wednesday, January 7th, 2025!

During this time, BHRR is always available 24/7 for requests for assistance of animals in need, and we shall then network accordingly, for as the local Great Dane/Giant Breed Rescue since 1996, the welfare of the animals is our top priority. We do not wish to see any animal end up in a disreputable place, of which, sadly, there are far too many out there.

Thank you for your continued understanding – The BHRR Team

Miss Amy had a glorious play date!

Almost 12 hours of love and kindness and got to binge watch Grey’s Anatomy with Mykenzie D.!

Miss Amy sniffed her cat and dogs and other than that left them completely alone. At the shelter she was even housed at one point in the overflow cat ward due to space shortages.

Thank you for giving her this special time!

Thank you also for Cassy M. for offering to give Miss Amy a special play date too! We will figure out a date/time that works!

AND on the 30th, Miss Amy is planning on being the guest of honour at our fundraiser for her at PV Brockville.

I sent a referral to Capital City on Saturday and shall follow up early next week should I not hear back. I will then send one from work. Per Dr. Philibert, her fractures need to be addressed ASAP before they begin to heal improperly as it will be more difficult and harder to repair later. Unfortunately, Dr. Philiberts schedule – away next week and then fully booked for weeks afterwards does not allow him to be her ortho specialist.

Her left side of her face is more swollen now, and that is being addressed.

If anyone else is open to having her/I for a quiet play date/visit to show her how wonderful the world can be for she has known little of pleasure and helping hands before her arrival into rescue, please do let me know.

She is such a dream puppy!

ISO:

1) At least one Volunteer that would be open to hanging out at the BHRR table on Saturday, November 30th – 9 AM – 3 PM @ PV Brockville.

*I am hoping to bring Miss Amy, the Rottie puppy with me, and would need some extra loving hands
**Please do email contactbhrr@gmail.com

2) I am ISO: Bakers for this event – please do email contactbhrr@gmail.com

Thank you in advance for any consideration!

Mr. Dimitri’s ‘version’ of not being on the couch!

He is doing great in his wonderful foster home!

His weight is now 136 pounds and his neuter has been scheduled for December 20th.

We will investigate his hips and knees further at that time in addition re-visiting his skin, ears and eyes. Right now, he is doing fantastic with his muscle mass and toning and there is no indication of anything more concerning going on.

His foster mama bought some omega’s to add to his diet and sadly, due to the postal strike his thicker winter dog coat and dog bed is delayed.  He at least has the light chilly dog coat form one of my own dogs to use in the meantime.

I am also still ISO as of crate and dog toys for him! I will be heading to meet up with his foster mom on December 19th if anyone has any toys they may consider donating for him.

I have so much to update on re: Miss Amy etc., and now that Mr. Ernie shall be safe, I can begin to focus back on posting some updates…posting her X-rays, emails with Dr. Philibert, Dr. Ammar and today I will be reaching out to Cap City.

In the meantime – thanks to Mykenzie D., Miss Amy, the 5 month old Rottie pup has been busted out of medical boarding and is having a special play date for several hours today.

I remain not just disappointed, or upset yet shocked by the events that occurred less than 12 hours after she was put into a foster home, yet my energies must be targeted on moving forward and doing right by her.

I will say again that false words hurt her, not me. I have broad shoulders and have taken a lot on said shoulders over the decades. I have always remained a 24/7 resource and ensure that all adoptive and foster homes are set up with all necessary tools for success – for them and my dogs. To not reach out to me, to not adhere to the advice / paperwork, to dump her – when you signed legal documents promising to do right by her and that she is not yours to try and just dispose like a piece of garbage – is horrific. AND by someone that had been a volunteer for over three years.

AND she has an army to show and is demonstrating daily how false and cruel and wrong said words about her were…

For me and since the inception of BHRR, back in 1996, I have a zero tolerance policy stance, and that shall never change. The dogs come first. Always. I have sacrificed a lot personally and professionally to ensure that my mandate has never changed. These dogs are entrusted to my care to do right by them, and I take that responsibility seriously.

Have a great play date today Miss Amy!

I am now leaving work to bring Miss Amy to her foster home.

I am so devastated for Miss Amy as she has not one yet both back legs are broken.

So much to update on, including that we have to removed the left eye….she needs not just a village yet an army.

What this puppy endured….crushing…

What a trooper of a puppy! Such a brave girl.

Never again shall she be harmed….

Miss Amata(Amy) Transport.

She is being crated due to her severe injuries.

She has travelled well, is said to be very sweet yet unfortunately, someone fed her some food and at 1:38 pm, she had a puke.

Travelling is very stressful, especially when it is a long day and with quite a few different drivers.

Fasting is always done on these transport yet someone gave her food….

We will clean her up upon arrival.

I will see you very soon dear wee one!

You have an army of people waiting to show you all about helping hands and love!

ISO: Gift Cards!

I am in search of gift cards to help raise money for Mr. Dimitri’s ongoing vet bills and care!

To date, Melody L. (Barrhaven & Area Empties) is generously donating a $50 LCBO gift card, and I am going to donate a $25 Tim’s card.

It has been decades since I did a “XMAS Winners Wreath” Fundraiser and time to re-visit this old fav.

I am still pulling together the details – stay tuned! YET, if anyone may consider donating a gift card to one of your favourite places – dining, CDA Tire, WalMart, a Pet Store, Amazon, etc.- I would be so grateful!

Please email gwen@birchhaven.org

I am hoping to begin this Fundraiser by November 28th!

Pic of Mr. Dimitri in his foster home!

Thanks in advance for any consideration!

In Search Of:

The following items for BHRR’s Dimitri:

1) Toys – Pictures of some from Pet Valu – all XL

2) XL Kirkland Dog Bed – Rectangular or Round, orthopedic would be best for his skinny body. – FILLED! Thanks, Cindy H.

3) Seeking a Colossal Crate to borrow or purchase at a reasonable cost – Pickering area

4) A Shedrow Coat – He has a fall/spring Chilly Dog coat from one of my own dogs, yet needs a Shedrow one for winter with his thin Great Dane coat – Black and Blue Great Danes in particular are quite bald on their underarms and bellies! – FILLED! Thanks, Sandi L.

***For anyone who may consider his cause to support, please do email gwen@birchhaven.org and I can share his foster homes address so items can be mailed directly to them.***
If anyone prefers to drop items off to me or send email or PayPal donations – contacthbrr@gmail.com I will be seeing him again over the new few weeks as we continue with his vetting protocol. I can then bring or purchase items to his foster home when I meet-up with them.

Thanks!

This picture is from when I had him vetted at work right after I got him off the transport.

He has since been de-wormed twice, is on flea/tick/hw medication, has had bloodwork done including testing for tickborne diseases – Negative, had elevated neutrophils (quite possibly as his body is still healing from his eye/ear/skin infections), has been placed on a NSAID (Deramaxx) to see if that helps with his lower back pain.

He had a thorough exam including his now healed broken tail, his hind end – the vet concurs that he most likely has conformation issues in the hind end due to poor nutrition, lack of proper exercise, kept in too small of a confinement area. He is weak in the hind end yet so much better than when I first saw videos of him at the time that I was contacted to assist.

He is getting stronger, will always be a bit ‘wonky’ most likely in the hind end and when he is healthy enough to neuter, we will x-rays his hips.

His eyes do not need surgery at this time – as he puts on more weight, and becomes better hydrated the slight droop should dissipate.

He is on 12-13 cups of food a day being spaced out of four smaller meals, is eating well, and gaining muscle mass/tone.

We will do regular weigh-ins.

I also had his boosters plus additional vaccines given. He is healthy enough for those at this time.

He is very flat footed and a bit collapsed in his pasterns yet that is due to poor nutrition to date, and since his arrival into Rescue, he is on a fish-based food, so this will help his coat, skin, joints plus muscles in addition to his feet/pasterns.

He is a dream dog!! Just so special!

AND he needs a Secret Santa as it is that time of the year!

Two more pictures of Mr. Dimitri from at the Vet.

I shall post more about Mr. Dimitri yet after such a long day – and I am only in Brockville now, still on my way home…I wanted to say another big thank you to so many again for participating and/or sharing his recent fundraiser.

He was barely 110 pounds at work today.

Pictures do not truly show his level of skinny.

Yet, his past is his past and we are working in the present and going to give him the best future!

I am already working on his next fundraiser – and if anyone may have gift cards, I would be so appreciative to be considered to have one for his next fundraiser…..
Details to come!

Please do email gwen@birchhaven.org

From my heart to all of our friends, family and supporters, warm and good night wishes being sent!

For Mr. Dimitri, this will be the first night in his life that he will not be in a pound or outside….

The first of the rest of his life…warm, safe and loved….

ETA to me in about 10+ minutes!

Feeling like an expectant parent!!

Soon…so soon…

We got you Dimitri!!

Still travelling well!

Everyone helping to transport him is in love with him! I mean, what is NOT to love?!

Mr. Dimitri! I cannot wait to meet you!!!

I know that you are worried….yet, your village is here for you!

He is on his way!

Mr. Dimitri!

He is doing ok – a bit stressed – understandable and travelling super well. Everyone has found him to be a gentle giant.

He is on transport with cats/kittens and another dog. They are making him feel safe!

I will be leaving shortly to meet the transport and then drive to meet up with his foster.

Isn’t he so freakin’ handsome!?

I have been having vetting done since we committed to him while he has been at the pound, and he looks SO much better already!

See you soon my dear boy!

**PHOTO IS FROM HIS TRANSPORT**

This is a 5-month-old Rottie puppy. I am calling her Amata – meaning blessed in Latin AKA Amy, meaning beloved.

Said to be a lovely Rottie puppy.

From the shelter:

“She is very sweet, typical puppy. Very friendly, wants to meet everyone, wants everyone to pet her or give her treats. Her left eye has been ‘traumatised’ (blind in that eye & her face is now misshapen) & she has an avulsion fracture on a back limb.”

The photo is from the shelter.

The shelter has called him ‘Dimitri’

Deadline to find a spot was by October 16th, or he would be euthanised. Thank goodness we were able to find a foster!

He is a young man – will say ~2 years.

Picked up as a stray. The person who found him, was going to keep him, then dropped him off at the pound.

Friendly, sweet, calm, has let the shelter staff do anything with him, affectionate, excellent leash manners – does not pull on leash at all, has not destroyed anything at the shelter, not nervous or afraid of anything including men, knows basic commands, crate trained, no separation anxiety and friendly with dogs.

Cats are unknown.

Being treated for skin dermatitis, possible ear infections, may need eye surgery – entropion(and this is most likely one of the reasons why many groups cannot or will not step up as it is a $4,000-$5,000 surgery.

The other reason is that it is suspected that he has a possible neuro condition – possibly trauma-related. I did not note anything in the two short videos, so I cannot say one way or another.

Broken tail.

Calluses on legs.

Very skinny – only 52 kgs (114.4 pounds)

The two small videos I have seen shows a typical Dane – a goofy, clumsy boy…..

We will pay to have basic vaccines at the shelter – DHPP booster, Rabies, & to have him microchipped.

The shelter has already given:

He got Bordetella and his first DAPP on October 1, 2024

They prescribed

Prohex 4 spray for the lesions on his abdomen

Also, the diarrhea was treated with probiotics and GI food.

Also authorized fenbendazole to treat the diarrhea/parasites

Once he arrives, we will give him Letpo/Lyme vaccines, deworm him further, test for heartworm and tickborne diseases, and do pre-op bloodwork to prepare to neuter him when he is stronger. We will re-visit his skin, and check out his ears

ETA: is after October 28th

We still have 2 amazing BHRR pups needing a special Secret Santa angel of their very own!

BHRR’s Mr. Albar & Miss Chrissy!

Mr. Albar(one of our Beans) says he has been enjoying the snow after the big storm yesterday/overnight! All of that rain and wet, heavy snow has made for some big mud puddles!

Miss Chrissy is snoozing in our small cubby on one of our fireplaces. We are doing renovations, and had been storing some of the old pieces of tile in the cubby, and she also thought this was a good place to be! All tile pieces have now been removed, so no injuries are possible.

If anyone would be open to spoiling one of them this Christmas, please do email contactbhrr@gmail.com

This handsome Bean has been a bit sad since his littermate & one of his bff’s was adopted recently – Miss Bev, so I took Mr. Albar on a special date today.

We picked out a new toy, went through Tim’s for a plain Timbit, and had a lovely drive with the sunroof open and a/c blowing! Then topped off our fun date with a visit to friends for a love fest on him!

You are adored, Mr. Albar!
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

Today, I adopted out my #436th foster!

Bittersweet, as always.

BHRR’s Bev!
ADOPTED!

I wish to thank Elaine again for joining me on such short notice to do this home visit for a possible approved adoption of either Mr. Albar or Miss Bev.

Either pup would have been a right-matched personality fit – that is not all that common to have two so closely matched, yet when the application came in, these two were the ones I felt could be the best possible fits.

The home felt a deeper connection to Miss Bev.

It was hard to watch Mr. Albar as for all that know him, he loves women, yet adores men – Richard can well attest to that! – and he was so smitten with the man. Elaine & I both had our hearts wrench a bit at watching that knowing that he was not their chosen one.

Both pups travelled great in the car, first looking around, then snoozing snuggled up with each other, and the giant stuffies that folks know that I have for the dogs.

As I got closer to the home, Mr. Albar began to do a bit of drooling. He settled back down yet as I was literally parking, he puked on poor Miss Bev’s tail, and my back seat, and one of my large stuffies. Thank goodness for bags, Lysol wipes, and napkins in my car. Always travel prepared!

Both were wonderful guests – they showed how smart they are with how well they are housebroken, they were well mannered, and Miss Bev showed how much fun carpeted stairs were! Mr. Albar picked up on that pretty quickly.

As I explained to this home, I put my heart and soul into each of our dogs; we go up and beyond on everything from vetting to food, to training to love plus spoiling to pictures, blog updates, etc., and that r/q rescue is not done by one person alone. THIS litter was surrounded by a village, a small yet mighty powerful one and the final cost of successfully rehabilitating them is over $30,000, and counting for their top-notch care continues.

We work so hard to ensure that our dogs become assets to the home plus community. This litter was exposed to SO much as their individual blogs have been well documented as proof.

Elaine said to me this must be so hard to let them go, and it is! Miss Charm crippled me, and I only had her for mere hours before she passed away in my arms. Miss Ayla had me welling up, too when she was adopted. YET, I said so many times today, as I have so many times in the past, that I am so freakin’ proud of this litter and that if I have done my job right, now it is time to pass the torch and have their right matched personality fit adoptive homes do right by our dogs. We will always be here as a 24/7 resource, our contract states that our dogs must come back to us if for any reason the home cannot keep them any longer or care for them properly.

This is once again, not a goodbye, this is just a turning of a beautiful page in Miss Bev’s journey of life, and looking forward to the next pages plus chapters of the WOW adventures in her future!
As for Mr. Albar, the great experiences that you had today, just builds upon your already solid well, written resumé, and your own right-matched personality fit home is out there….the same goes for Miss Nola plus Miss Maybelle Cutie. My cherished Beans!

We are not in a rush, we are patient, and boy, do they ever live a grand life right now….as the weather warms back up, we are spending more and more time back outside – though in the winter, we also spent vast amounts of time outside too, planning for play dates, visits, and adventures!

AND a special treat was running into Margaret on my way out to do this home visit today, as she was dropping off some donations in our shed!

Our attention now turns to reviewing the applications that have been submitted for Miss Asante, and as always, we will only approve a right-matched personality fit home. We are patient and we keep our mandates of putting the dogs first as our priority – we know she is popular like so many other BHRR dogs and will update as we can.

Happy Good Friday to all!

Mr. Albar & Miss Bev on our way to the home visit for a possible approved adoption.

Our 4th Annual ‘Won’t You Be My Valentine’ Fundraiser is live!

LAST CALL!

Our Annual ‘Won’t You Be My Valentine’ Fundraiser is live!

Running through until the end of the day tomorrow, February 15!

Please help us give each doggie a special Valentine!

Thank you to everyone that has become a Valentine Angel to date, and to those asking, here is our email transfer address to send the vet bill part of your generous donation: contactbhrr@gmail.com

Please let us know if you would like to be a Secret Valentine!

Thanks in advance for any consideration!

NOTICE:

BHRR does not adopt out during the XMAS season due to our position that it is not in the best interest of any new addition being added during such a busy, exciting, and somewhat stressful time for many.

Quite a few other Rescues, Shelters, Pounds, etc., have also begun to follow a similar protocol to what we have been doing for over 26 years.

Our XMAS Shut down period for this year is from Monday, December 19th, 2022, to Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023, inclusive.

Any applications received during this time will be processed/reviewed as of Wednesday, January 4th, 2023!

During this time, BHRR is always available 24/7 for requests for assistance of animals in need, and we shall then network accordingly as the local Great Dane/Giant Breed Rescue since 1996, the welfare of the animals is our top priority. We do not wish to see any animal end up in a disreputable place, of which, sadly, there are far too many out there.

Thank you for your continued understanding – The BHRR Team

AND The Bean’s latest professional photos are in! I will post the same blog post on each blog yet, keep their individual photo’s on their own blogs.

Thank you Liz Bradley!!

This could well be their last night that all five shall be together for tomorrow, I am doing a home visit for a possible approved adoption of either Miss Maybelle or Miss Ayla.

It is going to be an emotional night for me! I freely admit it! I have held these wee beans and fought hard for their survival since they were placed into my hands at barely a week of age.

I adore my Beans!

We are also now reviewing another application for one of The Beans. They are looking at one of the black girls too.

Poor Mr. Albar and Miss Bev….they remain overlooked.

They were at the Vet on Friday, November 11th, for their final boosters. BHRR takes care of everything for our dogs – all rounds of boosters, de-worming, flea/tick/hw meds, pre-op bloodwork, microchipping, spays/neuters, AND it was many many many thousands of dollars to get them healthy from the aspiration pneumonia that they came to us with, saving Mr. Albar’s leg, treating the severe punctures on Miss Ayla, etc. Miss Nola still has her HM 1-2. Could resolve or may stay the same for life etc.

Their adoption fees are a mere pittance compared to the almost $27,000 it took to get them healthy.

I remain so proud of them!!!

They love the chairs! Any elevation change they are so excited to explore.

Three months old now!

The Beans had their next weigh-ins and were altered today.

I also microchipped them and tidied up their nails.

I did not get out of surgery until after 3:30 pm.

What a way to end my last surgery tech shift at LAH!

*We know that she was ‘chill’ due to still battling aspiration pneumonia, yet is now a busy bean!

I barely had time to have a pee break and take a few sips of water.

Now, I am home, and the pups are tucked in, and I am going to forage for some dinner!

Their vet bills today were a smidge under $3,000 as I brought my own microchips, saving over $500, and tax plus, I have pain meds at home, saving another several hundred dollars.

The Beans are expensive yet so worth it!

The Beans had their re-weighs today and their next DAPP boosters – they also received their first Lepto & Lyme vaccines – plus picked up their next flea/tick & hw meds.

Their weights range from 9.7 (Miss Bev) up to 11.3 kgs(Miss Nola & Miss Maybelle Cutie). Mr. Albar was 10.9 kgs. Two of the girls were 11.3 kgs & the other was 11.2 kgs.

Thanks to Amanda and Jen for their assistance ‘lugging’ the beans, as the parking lot was insanely busy!

We had Miss Nola’s heart checked again, and she still has her Grade 1-2 HM, which is not uncommon and often can be completely harmless, and they often can outgrow them. We shall continue to monitor. Miss Nola and her Bean siblings got the big thumbs up at their Vet visit!

The unfortunate part is that three of the beans vomited twice post vaccines, and four were very subdued. This is most likely from the Lepto booster in a combination with the excitement of the day.

All temps were high normal, and they are being closely monitored in case they may need some dex or Benadryl.

All are resting quietly – getting some sun rays…..

On a side note, I was deeply overjoyed to see my Miss Bevie!  I have dearly missed her, and she was so happy to see me too!

I love the picture I have posted of BHRR’s Chester – ADOPTED May 3rd, 2022 – and Miss Bev!

AND…………drumroll!

The Beans(LabX) went up for fostering to adopt on October 1st!
*~75% lab*

We are also open to approved Volunteers to foster them until they are adopted by a right-matched personality fit home.

*This is in addition to our mandatory obedience clause
*They can go to homes with responsible children as young as 10+

*They can go to homes with cats
*We prefer homes with at least one right-matched personality-fit dog, not a deal breaker for that right home that has a great social network set up for The Bean!
*Homes must be within 2 hours of our location & be willing to take them to their October 15th booster apt. & their alter apt at the end of October – booked at Liston Animal Hospital
*Foster-to-adopt homes must then be prepared to commit to their final puppy boosters around November 15th (post-adoption), including rabies, dhpp, Lyme plus lepto
**The above clauses will be in the foster-to-adopt contracts in addition to all other requirements found in our standard adoption application contract**

They are ready to be fostered by an approved Volunteer AND they are ready to be fostered to adopt to homes seeking to adopt. The adoption application contract must be completed.

Thank you again to the puppy wranglers that came out to help at their paparazzi photo shoot! VERY appreciated!

NOTE: All blogs(scroll to the very bottom and then read upwards) and our PetFinder animal lists are kept utd so yes, he is still available.

Almost all of your questions will be answered in his thorough blog. READ the blog from the bottom up once on the blog.

Please familiarize yourself with BHRR’s adoption mandates, processes plus policies before contacting us about a BHRR animal.

Our PetFinder and our www.birchhaven.org websites will answer most of your questions. Therefore, do not contact us asking us what our policies are, what our adoption area is, or what his adoption fee is. BHRR is a federally registered NPO operated solely by Volunteers.

We are NOT a shelter or a pound.

You CANNOT just drop by to visit him. He resides in a loving foster home, not a kennel, and BHRR has a thorough adoption process to determine if any home is a right match personality fit.

When submitting your completed adoption application contract – found on our home website – for BHRR’s Albar, please include a short introduction regarding your home, etc.

We DO NOT respond to inquiries to adopt via Petfinder, our website nor any emails/phone calls. We ONLY will consider completed applications along with the non-refundable application fee.

NOTE: WE also will not respond to any emails that only ask a one-liner or re: adoption fees.

The adoption cost(from a r/q Rescue) or purchase cost(if you purchase from a reputable/quality Breeder is the LEAST that you shall pay over the lifetime of proper care of your pet)

AND The Bean paparazzi photos are in!

OMG! They are as amazing as I knew they would be!

They are 8.5 weeks old in these pics. Taken Thursday, September 22nd.

They are looking for foster or foster-to-adopt homes!

Miss Bev is going to her foster home later this week.

FOUR more beans to place in foster or foster to adopt homes.

Liz never ceases to amaze me with her talent and patience.

Thank you to Richard, Katherine, Cassy & John for being Bean Wranglers!

BHRR’s Albar, BHRR’s Maybelle Cutie, BHRR’s Ayla, BHRR’s Bev & BHRR’s Nola!

AND you know you have a great toy WHEN everyone wants it! Originally, there were four Beans on the toy, yet, one became distracted, yet Carol managed to get a picture of three of them on the same toy just romping along!

Some more pics!

We have Miss Maybelle Cutie on her own, and Mr. Albar leads the charge in the other picture with Miss Bev hot on his heels and Miss Maybelle behind him. As to who is lying in the back….hmmm, not sure…we know it is either Miss Nola or Miss Ayla! 😀

*Pictures complimentary of Carol!

The Beans had their next play date today – thanks again to Katherine, Richard & Carol.

I cannot believe we were there for over 3.5 hours!! I kept saying I did not want to overstay our welcome.

They had another amazing experience!

I was watching Miss Bev closely as she was trembling at the Vet yesterday when someone was holding her – she was only a bit worried during her vaccine, ok for nails, etc., yet trembled later when a staff member was holding her – yet, she was her normal, size everything up first before plunging right in to explore and snuggled and cuddled and was her loving self today! So, not sure why that was the case at one point yesterday yet, we are making sure all pups get safely exposed to many sights, sounds, and smells in trusted hands.

They turn eight weeks old tomorrow and have their professional photo shoot on the 22nd – weather permitting – to make special announcements!

I will be looking closely at the weather for other play visit opportunities for them too!

The Beans Update!

This is Miss Maybelle Cutie – 6 weeks of age!
*A HUGE fav of the staff today – content to be held/loved. She is quite the quiet diva princess!*

Named thanks to Kendel & her two handsome young boyz! Thank you!

All of The Beans were at LAH today for their first vaccines – WOW! They will be eight weeks old on Saturday!

They have their paparazzi shoot on the 22nd and will be making some special announcements after that!

They also have another play date scheduled for tomorrow!

Thank you, Cassy, for loving on them today as they were brought in, and out by myself and some of my fantastic work colleagues! They got to hang out in the sun – they will soon be able to get out of the xpen! – have a snack, water, play, and pounce all over Cassy!

Miss Nola – has a Grade 1/2 HM – it could be harmless, she could outgrow it, and we will monitor closely. Her hind end is strong now! YAY!

All puppies were re-weighed, thoroughly checked over, had their nails done, loved on, smooched, and they have their next de-worming plus will be old enough to begin flea/tick/hw meds. We will do that tomorrow. Having had their first vaccines today, they had a busy enough day.

All puppies other than Miss Bev, prominently resemble Labs. Miss Bev is now losing more of her browns/brindles and is developing a stunning wavy black coat down her spine/sides. Lab yup, yet what else?! It does not matter at the end of the day!

These are the items that we are still in need of:
What we still urgently need:
1) Essentials XL puppy pee pads – we are now working on going outside, yet, we still need more as they become housebroken. At six weeks of age, they are doing amazing!
2) Large breed puppy toys, please, not small or toy. They will be too small – desperate for!
3) Downy or Gain liquid fabric softener
4) a 14 kg bag of PVD Large Breed Essential Care kibble
5) Five Wiggle Bumz collars – quick release buckle 14-16″ – for when they can wear collars, width 1.0″
6) 2 x Dirty PawPrint Dog Runners – so much easier to wash/keep clean and is soft, durable, and very comfy!

I have not seen my five wee beans since August 18th. I still wake up every 1.5-2 hours thinking I need to get them fed.

Thank you to their fabulous temp foster for staying in close touch and working with me to keep them moving forward.

We are now working on mixing formula into their canned food and introduced formula-softened kibble yesterday. They are not yet ready to drink formula from a bowl or a low-level Tupperware container. They are a young, just shy of 4.5 weeks old.

They will continue to have three meals a day of the formula / canned puppy food (1 can each feeding), and have two small meals (1 cup each feeding to start) of the formula-softened kibble. They are still on the nursing bowl for several meals a day. This adds up to a lot of feedings!

Tasha keeps the two smallest ones separate for feeding to ensure they get their share.

We do still need the following items for the wee beans:

1) Puppy toys – for large breed puppies. *Anything smaller will be choking hazards.
2) Esbilac powdered – 28 ounce or 5 Lb
3) PVD Essential Care canned puppy food – I have bought 8 cases yet we need more!
4) PVD large breed puppy kibble – I have bought two of the 14 kgs bags & we will need much more!
5) Essentials XL puppy pads

My dear sweet wee beans, my heart bursts with so much love for all of you!

This puppy spam picture is thanks to Margaret for her generous financial donation!

This was their first foray into PVD Essential care canned food on August 11th.

I started off with a 1/4 of a can – bite-sized on my fingers and then moved them onto a Tupperware lid.

By Sunday, they were eating one can per extra feeding for a total of 3 extra feedings in addition to their six formula feedings.

They are too young to have formula mixed in, yet they will get there!!

My amazing five wee beans…oh how I love you….so much….

This puppy spam picture of thanks is being posted to Katherine Bruck for the latest Empties return for our orphaned wee beans!

This photo is from our driveway event – Saturday, August 13th. Thank you again Alison Goodfellow, for hosting us & the lovely pictures!

The orphaned litter are now three weeks old. They are hearing more, seeing more, and starting to do tail wags, small growls, and barks. A couple are even beginning to attempt to play. Their deciduous (baby) teeth are now coming in too.

AND as we have been getting questions re: them, I will answer some.

Their nails are long, yes, and should not be trimmed until at least six weeks of age, as they use them to latch onto surfaces to crawl, wobble, plus bobble. As their strength increases, they will become less dependent on their nails to move around.

We remain truly humbled by the support shown to this litter to date, and we remain desperate for items……

Donations can be done via PayPal gwen@birchhaven.org or email transfer to contactbhrr@gmail.com OR an item(s) donation:

We are quickly reaching a point of URGENCY for powdered Esibilac, plus pee pads.

What a beautiful day!

Alison Goodfellow, thank you and to your lovely family for hosting us today and for being the best puppy minders!

Thank you to Cassy Montgomery & John for the powdered Esbilac, and the Pinesol, and the additional gorgeous hand towels to sell!

Thank you to Aaron Maracle & Cherie Barnes Maracle for the puppy donations – pee pads & powdered Esbilac!

Thank you to all of the amazing souls that came to visit with their gorgeous animals & supporting our efforts.

AND we had a super nice couple come out with their handsome boy Mosley to talk to us about Miss Agatha.

This is the beautiful Alison taking her role as a wee bean puppy minder very seriously.  You were truly a most gracious hostess. She also ensured the puppies stayed safe from grabbing hands and sniffing noses!

The grand total raised today was $399 & $5.95 CDA Tire $

Thank you to everyone who came out, to those who shared our event, and to everyone for standing strong by our sides and believing in our rescue efforts. We are deeply humbled.

We are now heading home to feed the wee bean puppies again!

Yesterday – August 11th, I brought all of the beans to the Vet – my work – so that two of them could be seen.

As soon as I walked into the door – I had so many loving hands to hold and snuggle the beans! I work with some incredible folks! Thank you! I wanted to get a picture of my amazing teammates holding the babies, yet there just was not enough time – Thank you Mickayla Petersen & Loralei Valade, Dave, Jenn, Trish & Dr. Liston!

1) Miss Fighter Bean(Miss Nola) – did an exam on her spine/hind end plus did an x-ray – not the best picture as I quickly took two pics on my phone from the screen.

Her spine, knees, toes, and legs have nerves, and she is responsive.

The x-ray, as predicted, is a lot of cartilage. Yet, nothing was obviously broken.

Soooooooooo, we are continuing to do exercises at home, massages, and getting her to use her hind end to crawl over a folded tea towel to get to me for feeding/cuddles and to the pee pads – which does not seem like much, yet it is a lot for a 20-day old puppy.

I am going to keep working on building up her strength – newborn puppy obstacle style!

We will continue to monitor her closely as she develops. She receives all of the best in nutrition, care, and vetting, and she is a fighter!

For her liquid green diarrhea – they were all dewormed on the 4th, forti flora is being added to all of the puppy’s diets. I will make a separate post about our foray into PVD Essential Care canned puppy food land!

They are too young for Metronidazole as it will work on harming the good gut bacteria and not just the bad gut bacteria.

I am still trying to get a fecal sample brought in so I can send it to the lab and also do an in-house fecal smear float.

They are to be de-wormed again on August 18th.

2) Miss Chill Calm Bean – She was once the biggest in the litter, and initially, I did not have a concern with others catching up and even passing her in size.

Yet, in continuing to monitor them closely, I noted that she was beginning to lag further and further behind, not drinking as much, finding it harder to suckle, wanting to eat, and tiring out faster, yet, every time I listened to her lungs, she sounded clear.

Then yesterday early AM, I finally heard it….that sound…that raspy, slightly crackling sound, and saw the belly breathing. She was not winning the battle against aspiration pneumonia. She was slowly losing it.

So, she was also seen yesterday, and another ten days of Clavamox have been dispensed for her.

She is responding well.

We remain truly humbled by the support shown to this litter to date, and we remain desperate for items for them……

These wee Labx beans found nursing on their mom, that was lying dead under a tractor; two with punctures are now safe with us. If they could, they would also say THANK you to everyone for this lifesaving assistance.

They are not your normal healthy 2+ week-old puppies and need extra diligent, constant care.

I need five more of the 28 oz cans of powdered Esbilac just to hand off to our temp foster as of Monday for two weeks, as I have to be out of country for ten days. Plans that I cannot change.

We also need four more boxes of the 100-pack of Essentials XL Pee Pads.

Puppies are wee, their needs are enormous!

AND look?! Five precious beans are still with us! 19 days old! Miss Chill Calm Bean is the worse with the aspiration pneumonia right now……so Clavamox drops for 10 more days is part of her menu.

AND I still have to post re: wee Miss Fighter Bean too. All five came to the Vet with me, and I had two of them seen.

All puppies will begin Forti Flora shortly, and as soon as I can get a sample in – will do a fecal float, fecal testing, plus fecal smear.

They ADORE this elephant stuffie. Out of the three stuffies I have, this is their ‘surrogate’ Mama.

From our home to all of our friends, family, plus supporters, the best in good night wishes are being sent. I know I am excited about the prospect of maybe, possibly, getting more than 2.5-3 hours of sleep tonight!
Many have thought that this Elephant stuffie was giant or jumbo. It is not! It is a medium size stuffie that the beans get ‘lost’ in.

Before I post re: the Vet visit today, thanks to Lesley, and their beautiful financial donation – guess what time it is?!!

Five wee bear cub beans still with us!

I want to have this investigated ASAP. Hoping it is something we can successfully rehabilitate.

I am off to bed…a long night of puppy care, an early AM, and another very long work day ahead. Sean did fantastic with two puppy feedings yesterday, all on his own!

He said they slept a lot, yet as soon as I arrived home, just as with Miss Jamila, they smelled me, and it was puppy chorus chaos! ?

Good night wishes are being sent out to all of our friends, family & supporters!

My last post for tonight!

AND, thanks to Mary, and their extremely kind donation of some Pee Pads – guess what time it is?!!

This does not even take into consideration the many thousands of dollars it is going to take to vet them to prepare for their special announcements.
These wee Labx beans, found nursing on their mom that was laying dead under a tractor, two with punctures, are now safe with us. I know that if they could they would also say THANK you to everyone for this lifesaving assistance.

This is Mr. Warrior Bean. He is the only male out of the six puppies(5 survived).

He was the third sickest, and he and Miss Fighter Bean are giving it their all! AS am I!

He is a quiet, sweet soul at this time. He is not 100% so, his real personality is not yet completely shining through. He gets frustrated easily as it is hard for him to breathe when attempting to feed as he is still fighting the big battle with aspiration pneumonia.

He wants badly to eat, which is an excellent sign, and many opportunities are given for him to latch on. When he can latch, he has an excellent feed. He also has the ‘manly’ burp!

He is also one of the two puppies with punctures. He had a deep terrible, now granulating one on his back leg. We will be monitoring for any long-term effects.

He may be wee, yet, his inner strength is immense.

Tomorrow, I plan on weighing them. Their weights as of Thursday, August 4th in emergency:

Puppy 1 – 0.38 kgs – deceased as of 8:49 AM Thursday, August 4th
Puppy 2 – 0.38 kgs as well
Puppy 3 – 0.48 kgs
Puppy 4 – 0.46 kgs
Puppy 5 – 0.56 kgs
Puppy 6 – 0.64 kgs

Right now, the puppies look like wee bear cubs!

We will be doing our popular Name Game Fundraiser to try and raise much-needed funds for vetting – five pups to vaccinate, boosters x 2, exams, four spays, one neuter, flea/tick/hw meds, bloodwork, further investigating Miss Fighter Beans hind end, etc., not to mention food, formula, pee pads, Pinesol, toys, treats, dog beds, laundry detergent, liquid fabric softener and so on.

Puppies are wee, their needs are enormous!

AND ignore the PJs! It is what it is! That I get to shower daily and have a pee is enormous. A hot meal is rare, yet I would gladly forego many a meal, sleep, or getting dressed in ‘real’ clothes if it means that these five beans go on to have great well, deserving futures!

Mr. Warrior Bean is waving goodnight to all of their fans plus supporters! His signature move.

So, thanks to Tina, and their heartwarming financial donation, guess what time it is?!!

This picture fills my heart with so many thanks, for if you count, all five remaining wee beans are still alive.

Today, we had a spa day, and in this pic, they are relaxing post-wash & having gentle puppy massages. They had a lot of caked-on ‘stinky’ from when we picked them up, so it will take a few washes to get it all off.

We have also discovered Miss Fighter Bean has issues with her hips and/or back legs. As the beans begin to wobble and bobble more, this has been noticed. We will investigate this further.

Is this injury based? Is it nutrition based? A combination? As soon as we got them, we immediately began top-notch care including vetting and feeding, and we know something is not right with her.

I am soon getting ready to do their midnight feed!

From our home to all of our friends, family & supporters, we are wishing you all a wonderful good night…..

OK!

Sooooo, as Megan posted that they will donate their Empties monies – every bit helps!! – from a get-together they are having next weekend, that means…..picture time! Thank you!

This is Mr. Bean with Miss Explorer Bean, having a snooze on the sun deck.

They are now 14 days old, and we have peepers!

Their eyes plus ears began to open yesterday, and though the two weakest ones are not as open as the others, they are there!

AND I still have five pups….the wee boy and one wee girl are fighting hard, and I am fighting hard with them….24/7 care.

When your milk bar, guests just have to be different when drinking!

Good early AM. 5:00 AM feed & clean done, and I am wobbling my way to the nearest soft surface to crash for 2 hours.

They are really good babies, and the healthier they become, the more their individual personalities shine through…..

For every donation that comes in – monetary or an item, we will drop some puppy spam of thanks as appreciation!

Sincerest thank yous to all of the baby beans rescue angels that have surrounded them to date with such kindness!

Raising a litter takes an army……BHRR’s is small yet oh, so mighty.

Just some puppy spam as who does not love puppy spam?!!

My heart is so full and bursting with incredible love.

I am doing everything I can to get them strong plus healthy and then letting them go….I am committed to them and promised all of them that I will do right by them.

I have spent over $1,000 in the past 24 hours on their well-being, and they are worth every dime plus more….

By rescues working together, there is so much that we can do to help those in need…it is not about ego or pride, it is about the dogs!!

It has been a whirlwind here….

I am deeply sorry for the lack of updates today. I was up almost 26 hours straight working on saving these puppies. Sadly, we did lose the pink collar girl at 8:49 am today. I am calling her Miss Charm Bean.

Her prognosis was so poor. The emerge vet supported trying. She received sub Q fluids, and all pups are now on Clavamox for aspiration issues.

This wee bean received so much love from Cassy & then myself.

I snuggled her close, told her how much she was loved that I was very sorry that we could not save her – wish we got her sooner – and told her it was ok to go to sleep and see her mama….

It hurts my heart that my horrible cross to bear is seeing these precious creatures die; we tried so hard. Backyard breeders just move on….while our hearts bleed.

Too young….

We had been told they were a week old, yet they will be 12 days old tonight. Born July 23rd.

So much to update on, yet feeding – which they had no suckle reflex, has been a real challenge and as of 10:30 am I finally got them to nurse off a nursing bowl. We have had several good feeds since then. My day has been a total blur.

There is a girl as small as Miss Pretty Pink that is struggling, plus the one boy too. We were told last night by the person that had them that there were at least two ‘almost dead’.

The litter was 5 girls and 1 boy.

Thank you again to Katherine for the donations of pee pads plus formula, and thank you to Cassy for picking up formula plus bottle kits and pee pads. Thank you and to John for picking up the de-wormer plus Penaten – the pups were so hungry before we got them that they were sucking on each other – stomach, vulva & the boy’s penis. The two biggest girls, .56 kg & .64 kg vulva’s are the worse.

Two puppies have granulating punctures. That had to be so painful.

They were never brought to the vet, and we are now de-worming them. The diarrhea alone has been dehydrating them.

I want to thank Kingston Emerge – Dr. Singh for seeing the babies and being so wonderful.

Also, instead of paying almost $600 for the exams, he charged for just one puppy exam, and the total bill was just under $450.

They were amazing, kind, caring, and lovely….

Thank you to Mickayla for seeing my email to Dr. Liston re: needing strongid – the emerge hospital did not have any – and filling it so fast.

I am exhausted….I am sad….I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by such a strong BHRR network that rallied fast to ensure we had what we immediately needed for these babies. THANK you puppy angels!

Per a previous post, we reached out to a couple of groups to see if they could help with this litter. The sick ones will stay with me, and the healthy ones – three right now will go to another group shortly.

A lot can change on a dime….so please keep them in your thoughts.

We will post our additional puppy needs ASAP.

It is time to feed again, do another load of puppy laundry, and maybe I can snag a bit to eat.

We have finally had a reply(we have been trying to get a response as to when we can pick up the puppies), and it appears that two puppies are now ‘almost dead.’ They will head right to emerge once we get them  – in Kingston – the whole litter will be checked out.

*Picture is courtesy of the home that currently has them.*

Dad is believed to be 50% Lab, 25% shep, 25% rottie. We really have no idea. We will see as they age if there is any better indication of Dad. Mom is a purebred unregistered lab. So pups are predominantly lab 75%, 12.5% shep, 12.5% rottie. Apparently, she has had several litters from this sire. The farmer never had her spayed.

We are waiting to hear from the person who has them.

**We were not sent an individual picture of the Boy**

Pics of babies and that is not their mama that passed away – that is a pug – belonging to the person who now has the pups.

***URGENT***

We have been contacted regarding 6 Labx that are now 7 days old.

Their mom, Labrador Retriever was found deceased three days ago under a tractor with the puppies still nursing.

The Mama belonged to a neighbour of the person who reached out to us.

Another individual has them now, has to head out of province, and is finding this overwhelming. We well appreciate and understand the amount of work that goes in hand raising puppies.

The person who has them is planning on having them euthanised – one also is apparently not thriving as well as the others – by the weekend should a spot(s) not be found.

This is urgent…….
