On Sunday June 1st, 2014, BHRR did Adoption #364

Thank you to Auntie Margaret Aris for roadtripping with me, and, thank you to this lovely family for opening up their showcase home to us and, for being that right matched forever loving home for a BBBBB!

This home has loved BHRR's Jetta for some time, and, even met her at our BHRR 'EXPERIENCE' Mini Open House in November, yet, the timing was not right for their home to put in an application at that time to adopt.

BHRR's Dyson had a really great positive experience coming with us for this hv and, while the home had their hearts set on BHRR's Jetta, BHRR's Dyson was also one of possible interest and, he came with us to see if he could be a right matched fit, yet, he was not…..BUT, his home is out there! We know it is!

Congrats to you Jetta!! It was an emotional time on the drive home with such happiness and, a few tears of "I will deeply miss her'
WHAT I love about this photo is that each human member has their hand touching her!

Margaret got some stunning photo's with her more professional camera and, when she is back up and running on her own computer, she shall send our way….she got some incredible photo's of her and BHRR's Dyson! I have a couple from my iPhone of BHRR's Dyson and will post on his blog. 🙂

BHRR's Jetta's hv for her possible adoption is on Sunday. Here are some photo's of her from May 20th, 2014.

We have a date for a hv, finally scheduled! YAY! Sunday June 1st! I shall be taking BHRR's Jetta and BHRR's Dyson with me to this hv. The home had been here at our November BHRR 'EXPERIENCE' Mini Open House and, they have always loved Jetta and, were happy to see that she was back safe with us and, they also enjoyed BHRR's Dyson. Will update her blog as we can!

Here are three photo's from right now taken of her in our still almost fully renovated sunroom! Sean hopes that we can finish it off this long weekend. I hope so as we have a couple of other big projects planned for 2014. We are renovating the rec room downstairs, now that we have our cottage shed (taking out the old solarium and putting in new doors and closing up the current door area) and, putting up a new wooden fence down most of the one stretch by the pond to the barn etc. We have also almost fully renovated the third bathroom, the powder room downstairs – we used the left over porcelain tile from the sunroom. I also need to put down more gravel and grade the laneway(done every two years) and, cut the horse pastures again(done yearly). 🙂

We are really excited for our upcoming June BHRR "EXPERIENCE" Mini Open House to have people 'experience' the latest renovations. 🙂 With the nice weather, I now have the screened in porch all set-up for summer, the pool is pretty much open and the, gorgeous ceramic tile fire-pit that Mason/Sean gave to me for XMAS is all ready to go by the pool for the enjoyment of our guests. New solar lights have also been put in from an auction item that I won in supporting another rescue. New solar lights also upfront on the walk-way, from another auction item that I won to support another group. 🙂

We continue to save up to get the whole main floor area re-done. Wear and tear from dogs and kids alike, is not good on the floors! 😀

Unfortunately, in trying to book a hv for BHRR's Jetta's possible future adoption, the home is extremely busy up to June and, we do require all members of the home to be present. We continue to try and figure out a best date/time for all so, that we can determine if this is the right matched forever loving home for BHRR's Jetta. Patient is what all parties remain! 🙂

We are at the stage of scheduling a HV at a mutually agreeable date/time for BHRR's Jetta's possible future adoption. The home is also interested in BHRR's Dyson. A third choice was BHRR's Ani. We only place per right matched personality fit and, everything crossed! We shall continue to update the blog as we can.

BHRR's Jetta is moving under a PENDING ADOPTION!!!

GENTLE REMINDER & UPDATEThis event will NOW also be used to also help BHRR’s Porridge – Rushed into KAH March 19th for when I returned from being out of the country, he was not well. He had dropped 3 KGs(6.6 pounds) – he is down to 74 KGs, had a nasal discharge, flared nostrils, no temp yet, belly breathing and could not breathe with his mouth closed, had not drank anything in over 24 hours, minimal eating, lethargic, swollen lymph nodes and, could not rest on his side(his fav resting spot).

PORRIDGE VET RESULTS TO DATE: Full exam done, lungs sounded ok, did a full blood work up including a heart blood test(awaiting results, we could not use Dormitor(if he did have a heart condition, this would be not in his best interest) to sedate for x-rays and the Torb barely took his anxiety edge off(we were not able to do his nails as he needs the Dorm also to sedate him) and, we could only get the right lat for x-rays yet, the heart on that side look almost completely normal. There was no noticeable bulge or significant enlargement yet, we had to take four shots to get his full chest and lungs just of the one side and the left side could not be completed at this time. We took biopsies of his lymph nodes, heart rate was elevated. The staff there noted how poor his energy level was from his norm ‘must maim with my happy tail and enthusiasm hyper harle happy boy ‘tude’ and while, he did eat some wet canned food, he had a hard time trying to eat anything dry and could only take one dry piece of T/D that was offered to him. The Vet has prescribed Doxy for him 4 tabs BID of the 100 mg IN case it may be infection related yet, he would not be presented ‘classically’ if that were the case. Yet, we are being proactive from all angles.

He went down hill so fast while I was away and, I thank all for monitoring him and I have trusted and do trust that those that were here, did keep his best interest at heart and, did not see fit to bring him in. I was completely ok for hi to go in for peace of mind and, I had been told that he was eating and drinking well and energy level was ok, no nasal discharge and lungs were clear(one person here is a nurse). In discussing him in more depth tonight with some of the wonderful souls that were here, it was noted that a weight loss had been seen, that drinking levels had gone down and energy level had changed. He was apparently fine and completely normal up to late last week and, I arrived home on Tuesday early afternoon. Whatever he has, it is aggressive….. 🙁

AND, in the 24+ hours that I have been home, his condition from there worsened further and, I jumped in bringing him in ASAP. Even called KAH to change his appointment to an earlier time slot.

Possible diagnosis at this time range from early heart to early lymphoma to early nasal tumor. Good case scenario, an infection of some sort.

AND, here is the PV Stittsville, Nail Trim Event Poster! $15 for grinds/$10 for Trims on Saturday March 22nd from 10 am – 5 pm, and, all money shall benefit BHRR’s Coach, our ‘heart’ boy!

Purse Puppy Coach shall be coming with me after my work shift on March 22nd,  – around 2:30 PM to visit and thank all those that will be there AND, he will be doing ‘KUDDLES 4 KASH’ to also help raise some money for his bills. AND, for those that have had the pleasure of hugging this boy, he is DELIGHTFUL! I may also bring BHRR’s Angel Noelle or perhaps BHRR’s Torque! 🙂

On Tuesday March 4th, BHRR’s Purse Puppy’s Coach weight was 14.9 KGs(37.78 pounds)! Since his arrival into Rescue, he has put on 34.28 pounds! 🙂 In just 14 weeks! 🙂

I have a huge blog post to make from this Vet visit and then coming back the next day for emergency x-rays and an ECG (the results were suppose to be back within 24 hours….) and, from there, the next steps for him. I have the report from the one Vet to post and, I have passed along all information and details to PVAR who have the other two puppies and who adopted the mom. At the minimum, it is believed that he has a congenital condition. 🙁 AND, the chances that HE is the only one in that large litter to have this condition is slim to none.

As I am heading offline for the next week+, blog updates will be to a minimum to none – SORRY! 🙁 I am going out of the country and later this year, also plan on going back out of the country as I have been invited to Costa Rica and Nicarauga to assist/train/mentor in a spay/neuter clinic and, to work with the strays etc. over there.  So, I will post as I can and, thanks to all that follow the blogs!!! 🙂

Now, we just have to have those right matched forever loving homes find all of these great BHRR doggies that are AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! 🙂

BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s ‘BREAKING BILLS BAKE’ Online Auction Fundraiser
*Items do not need to be baked until the Online Auction is over. 🙂
ONLINE AUCTION: STARTS January 18th, 2014(7 AM EST) & ENDS January 23rd, 2014(9 PM EST) – We have 32 items to date!

Thank you to EACH person who has stepped up to help us with sharing this request for donations for this fundraiser, offering to make an item, sending those very precious notes of support and kindness AND, in believing in this very special ‘angel’! As always, thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU! What a brutal start to 2014, we have had at BHRR. 🙁 With being in a food crisis, BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s amputation and, BHRR’s Blooms’ gas bloat. 🙁

All monies raised in this Online Auction shall go towards paying for BHRR’s Angel Noelle’s Bills.

This sweet Rottiex puppy used to live in a crackhouse. She lived a life of constant abuse and, at 12 weeks of age, she was abused, picked up and thrown. Her leg/elbow was broken and left untreated for another 12 weeks. She received no medical treatment during this time as my leg worked to try and heal on its own. I was terrifed and in extreme pain.

On Christmas Eve, an ‘angel’ contacted Gwen and, asked if Birch Haven Rescue & Rehabiltition(BHRR) could assist. BHRR immediately stepped up and another ‘angel’ came to her rescue and took her from this very bad place as ‘because I whimpered in pain’, the Owners wanted me gone ASAP and would have killed me if I had stayed with them.

On Monday January 13th, 2014, her leg was amputated and her bills will be close to $5,000 once all of her rehab is finished. She still has to have post-off follow-ups/exams, vaccines, physiotherapy etc.

Here is a copy of a post that I made on our Birch Haven Facebook Page. For those that are inquiring as to ‘where’ the page went.

As we have many followers that are not on facebook, this is a post that can be ignored. 🙂 For those that do follow us on facebook and, missed this post, here is a copy….

This is the final post as part of the ‘end of year statement’ for the BHRR BOD….that absolute privilege has fallen upon my typing fingers…

So much to say, a Gwennie Novel that would be a Gwennie chapter to truly capture it all!!

It has been an incredible year for BHRR, 13 WOW adoptions, so many faces put to names of lovely folks near and far, friendships plus relationships that have strengthened further and increased those links on that BHRR CHAIN OF SUCCESS, new kind and beautiful faces that have chosen our cause to support and believe in, the miracles of so many that were considered by several to be ‘lost causes’, r/q rescues working side by side making an much bigger positive difference to animals out there in need, the laughs, the smiles, the fun(Yes, r/q rescue can be fun!), the public education and community education events, play dates and play visits, the fundraisers(the crossposting!) the walks/hikes, the animals plus people that have touched us to the core and made our hearts just burst in warmth and happiness, the donations of lifesaving food and, other material items, the financial hand to help pay for much needed bills and more dog food, the driving and the more driving and the more driving, and yes, the hugs!
We thank each you that has been there and we look forward to what we hope promises to be an even better year for all ahead. We are NOTHING without you…..AND, to my BHRR BOD, thank you!

It has been such a hard year in others ways, and we take those important life lessons learned and will work that much more diligently in making better decisions/choices in 2014 and onward….we are focused in letting go of the things that we cannot change and that are unhealthy in the name of r/q rescuing.
We endeavour to practise what we preach, research, stay updated and keep walking the talk!
We have cried and still do cry over those that shall no longer be with us – human and animal and, candles are lit in the most honourable plus respectful silence of those that we can no longer physically touch and talk to and embrace……We miss you and, we are better in the having been touched by you…..

We thank all those that have assisted us in not changing BHRR yet, in continuing to help make it a better version of itself! I stand up and applaud each of you and then, I kneel down in the most humblest of thanks in turn, for I appreciate each and every gesture from a dollar to an encouraging word to helping to do nails or helping me to keep making dogs more well balanced and set-up for success! You may not think you have done much, yet, you have…especially on those dark trench days….

2014 MARKS year #18 for our small r/q Rescue and, that moves me into an announcement that I have been slowly sharing with people over the past few months….

The BHRR BOD has been discussing this for close to a 1 year now….

As of 11:59 PM on Wednesday January 1st, 2014; we shall be unpublishing our page….and, deactivating the BHRR BOD account.

This was not an easy step to take by any means for we understand how key networking and social media is….this page has brought us soooooooooooo much goodness and kindness and, we go into this knowing that we shall find ourselves most likely struggling even more financially and with food needs than we ever have had to date…..13 dogs were adopted in 2013, 17 in 2012 and this page is to be credited with these success stories…..

We are a small group and like many groups, we are Volunteers and lead busy lives outside of r/q rescue and, in frequent discussions with members of the BHRR BOD, the bandwidth is just not there right now for me to keep up the pace of this page plus what so many have originally been attracted plus loved about BHRR, the detailed blogs…that is very much a ‘signature’ BHRR arena and, it has had to take a backseat more often than I would have liked in 2013.

2014, is also year of much excitement(and some stress!) in my own professional and personal life – I will be defending in 2014 in re: to my PhD that I have worked pt on for too many years now…, I am furthering my training to do more work internationally with strays, street dogs and spay/neuter clinics and teaching and being mentored….I have been invited to Costa Rica and Nicaragua and, I will also begin to shadow at other Hospitals to increase my own skill set and education with qualifications plus experience. AND, I also look forward to my time at the ES when I can get there. As a result, I shall also be deleting/deactivating my personal account. Barry, Catalina and Mary will remain our eyes and ears out there in fb land.

My priority has always been to the animals under our authority and being hands on and keeping our success rates unparalled out there….that, shall not change.

It is my sincerest of wishes that by this time next year, we can publish this page again….it has become such a staple to my day and, I look forward to coming back to post of daily tips and questions and quotes and all things BHRR plus beyond to help other groups also network their own events/animals and throw our support into their corner!

I have sincerely enjoyed sharing the ups and the downs as part of our commitment to full disclosure and that, we are only perfect in our imperfections as humans….

So, it is will deepest regret that this shall be my last post on this page for some time……..

The BHRR BOD is still trying to figure out how best put forth our requests for assistance and right now, we shall go back to using the website for postings…so, please do visit uswww.birchhaven.org for YOU are the real hearts and souls of BHRR, along with the animals…..

May love, happiness and health find their way and stay with you and yours in 2014….that is my wish for you!

Raising my glass to all of you in a toast of my heart to you!

FROM myself, words truly do fail me with how beautiful these cards are plus the stamps AND Anna’s heart…..Thank you! THANK YOU!

From Anna G-h:

“We are delighted to announce that we have note-cards and matching stamps (domestic permanent) available with all funds donated to Birch Haven to assist in vetting and food costs. Each are 4 for $5. NOTICE:

BHRR does not adopt out during the XMAS season due to our position that it is not in the best interest of any new addition being added during such a busy, exciting and somewhat stressful time for many.

Quite a few other Rescues, Shelters, Pounds etc. have also begun to follow a similar protocol to what we have been doing for so many years.

Our XMAS Shutdown period for this year is from Saturday December 14th, 2013 to Tuesday January 7th 2013 inclusive.

During this time, BHRR is available 24/7 as always for requests for assistance of animals in need.

Thank you for your continued understanding – The BHRR Team

Our 6th ANNUAL 'JUST IN TIME FOR XMAS' Online Auction HAS started! 🙂 We NOW have 87 items posted – LINK BELOW – and more to come daily! This is not a facebook auction. As we have supporters not on fb, we use a wp plug-in app on our home website.

YOU have to go visit daily to see just what is there! 🙂 THANKS to all that have donated so kindly, generously and the animals thank you too! 🙂

The BHRR Auction began at 7:00 AM EST on Saturday November 23rd, 2013.

The BHRR Auction will end at 9:00 PM EST on Thursday December 5th, 2013

http://www.birchhaven.org/fundraising-2008/online-auction-2012

From Friday October 18th to Sunday November 3rd, 2013 inclusive, BHRR will not be open for adoptions or the intake of adoption applications.

We do not adopt out around the Halloween season and many others Rescues, shelters, pounds etc. have also begun to follow a similar protocol.

We do not believe it is in the best interest of the animals in our program, especially for dark coloured dogs.

During this time, BHRR is available 24/7 as always for requests for assistance of animals in need.

On August 24th, BHRR’s Jetta came with myself, Matrix and several amazing approved BHRR Volunteers to The Doghaus in Montreal for another community education and public awareness event. 🙂 Great weather, great people and a great parking spot! 😉

BHRR’s Jetta was a very popular hit!!! Below are some photo’s of the ‘lovely BBBBB’.

BHRR’s Jetta – August 24th, 2013

A short time ago, I received an email from the most talented and I want to say also, very beautiful and special Liz Bradley of The Ottawa Dog Blog.

http://ottawadogblog.ca/2013/08/we-won-the-top-most-influential-dog-blog-online/

As many are aware, there was a voting contest recently for the Most Influential Dog Blog online and the competition was quite tough AND, thanks to such an incredible surrounding community The Ottawa Dog Blog WON! By taking 60% of the votes!

HUGE Congratulations Liz & Jane!!! Extremely well deserved! Your blog is quite important and valued deeply by so many and you make a BIG difference daily with all your efforts! I have loved watching your amazing 'baby' grow plus develop!

AND, what so humbly surprised me(AND, made me grab yet, another tissue…this time with a welling up of good tears!), was that Liz/Jane was awarded a lifesaving generous gift of $500 donation to the charity of her choice AND they chose BHRR!! As they have posted about, there are SO many great r/q Rescues deserving and in need and, I am touched, humbled and feel privileged to have our small rescue chosen to be the recipient of such an incredible gesture……Just honoured! Immensely!

There really needs to be more words to express THANK YOU! I am MORE thank thankful! I am genuinely appreciative plus grateful and filled with intense gratitude…….

THE BELOW IS FROM LIZ/JANE:

"It was a difficult decision as to the charity who we would pick to receive the donation as all of the Ottawa charities work so hard.

We decided on Birch Haven Rescue and Rehabilitation to receive the $500 donation! BHRR is an amazing rescue who is in need of money to feed the large and giant breeds they rescue – this money will go a long way towards food and vet bills for them!

Thank you again to all who voted. I am so very proud to live in this great city surrounded by fellow dog lovers.

With love and belly rubs,
Liz (and Jane)"

**Could I please ask our fans/supporters/family/friends to take a moment and go over and CONGRATULATE Liz/Jane immensely and tell them HOW uber awesome they are with what they do daily!!!**

AND, here is what I wrote on their lovely Blog post!

HUGE Congratulations Liz & Jane!!! Extremely well deserved! Your blog is quite important and valued deeply by so many and you make a BIG difference daily with all your efforts! I have loved watching your amazing ‘baby’ grow plus develop!

As Liz/Jane have posted, there are SO many great r/q Rescues deserving and in need and, I am touched, humbled and feel immensely privileged to have had our small rescue of Birch Haven Rescue & Rehabilitation Services chosen to be the recipient of such an incredible gesture……Just honoured! Immensely!

I also wish to publicly thank Camp Cookstown from my heart, for having such a great contest, for helping to get the word out regarding so many fantastic online blogs and for supporting the work done in animal rescue with this very generous and lifesaving gift of $500.

There really needs to be more words to express THANK YOU! I am MORE thank thankful! I am genuinely appreciative plus humbled and filled with intense gratitude…….

UPDATE Sunday December 16th, 2012:

UPDATE ON VOTING CONTEST:

As many are aware from the public blanket statement posts I was making, as soon as I understood what was able to really occur with the voting in the food contest, I contacted MDB. This was not resulting in a fair contest to all r/q Rescues involved.

We have been in conversation for the last few days re: this contest and per the positioning of BHRR, we will only wish to operate with continued integrity plus honesty and no food is worth any compromising of that.

Either we all are able to vote once a day, only ever once, or multiple times daily. What was happening was not equal or fair to all involved. BHRR and it was so important that MDB be made aware of what was happening.

I am aware that they did a reset a couple of days ago to try and have people being able to only vote once every 24 hours and some could and others still could not vote again.

We have continued to support MDB in any successful resolution they felt was necessary and per their public post today, they have decided to do a reset from scratch – starting over.

I thank EACH of our supporters and believers that have campaigned so hard to assist the animals of BHRR and in sharing! 🙂 No words can tell you how much this has meant to BHRR for we do go through 120 POUNDS of dog food PER DAY.

AND good luck to all participating for round two!

BHRR's Jetta's Ear – December 7th, 2012 – Right after the bandages came off

From a recheck today.

Antibiotics have been changed and she only allowed me to be the one to remove that bandages and clean her ear. It is now going to stay un-bandaged for now and her Vet was worried about one part that may need to have some surgery on.

Over all, the Vet was fairly pleased and thought she was a really brave and exceptional girl to have all that needed to be done and was a model patient.

BHRR's Jettta – December 7th, 2012

BHRR's 5th ANNUAL "JUST IN TIME FOR XMAS" Online Auction is ON NOW UNTIL Thursday December 6th @ 9:00 PM EST!

We currently have 122 very exciting items up for grabs! MORE being added throughout the last day of this auction! 🙂

All monies raised shall go to the care of animals in need of BHRR and also assist the two new Saint Bernards headed our way!

BHRR does not adopt out during the XMAS season due to our position that it is not in the best interest of a new addition being added during such a busy, exciting and somewhat stressful time for many. Our XMAS Shutdown period for this year is from Saturday December 15th, 2012 to Monday January 7th, 2013 inclusive.

UPDATE: I just finished changing BHRR's Jetta's bandage again, cleaned up her wounds and everything looks so awesome! It really looks great. Far better than all of us expected to see. She continues with her antibiotics, has plenty of pain meds and I cannot stress enough how amazing this dog is to allow me to do all that I need to do and nothing more than a wee cry here and there, which if it were me, I would want to scream.
She is going to make one forever loving home an outstanding dog for I always knew she was fabu yet, she is fabu extreme really and so brave….just so brave…..
Thanks for everyone's well wishes, caring words and support for her! The poor thing…..

AND Drift refuses to leave her side……..he is such a caring boy!

Sending out a warning to all in our neck of the woods…as some are already aware, BHRR has experienced two coyote attacks on two dogs and today – early AM, we had our third… 🙁 BHRR's Jetta took a bad grab through the fence…. 🙁
Sean and I have had tall gaming(smallish slats) and page wire fencing(larger slats) for the last two to three years and now have been madly replacing it with even smaller slats(2×4) and even taller fen
cing to keep the dogs safe. Even with us humans out in the fenced in yard, the coyotes are very bold. 🙁 Sean was right there when it happened and screamed for me to help…

We have lived here since 1999 and never ever had this kind of coyote problem and now, three dogs have been hurt over the last three weeks and even in the last year+, I have had to save our pony who had three coyotes attacking him one night. 🙁
Please everyone, be super vigilant and careful.
I am not even taking the dogs on the trails these days as this is a big worry re: attacks. 🙁
Think of poor BHRR's Jetta who is now missing a significant part of one ear and her poor nose. Kingston and Drift have healed well from their own grabs from coyotes….

In preparation in having to do some emergency fundraising for BHRR's Autumn's ever growing mounting bills that shall include having several surgeries, we are going to be offering up  a small  BHRR's Autumn's EMERGENCY Online Auction

Auction details and how to bid can be found HERE – ITEMS can be added at any time – so, please check back!

Starts 6:00 AM EST on Monday October 29th, 2012
Ends 10:00 PM EST on Monday November 5th, 2012

NOTE: BHRR's Autumn's EMERGENCY ONLINE AUCTION does not replace our 5th ANNUAL 'JUST IN TIME FOR XMAS' ONLINE Auction to commence on Saturday November 24th, 2012!

From Friday October 19th to Sunday November 4th inclusive, BHRR will not be open for adoptions or the intake of adoption applications.

Here is another VIDEO from today – fall at BHRR  – Wednesday October 17th, 2012.

I wanted to capture BHRR's Blossom's body condition as she looks today and could not help but capture some of the other BHRR lovelies too! 🙂

DOESN'T BHRR's Blossom look fabu extreme now!!! NO longer that 57 pound Great Dane that first arrived into Rescue on September 7th, 2012!

WTG BHRR's Blossom!!!!

BHRR's Ani & BHRR's Jetta came to do a hv tonight!

WHAT fabu girls! FABU extreme! BHRR's Jetta's coat is now almost completely shiney black and she has put on even more much needed weight.

BHRR'a Ani, looking quite fine herself and both of them were very well mannered in the home.

Either one would do well in this home yet BHRR's Ani seemed to have 'chosen' the home and so as of Friday August 31st, 2012, she will be temp fostered by this home.

THANK you to this home for coming on board as part of our extended family!!!

BOTH of these Great Danes are still awaiting their forever loving adoptive homes to find them.

COME ON OUT TO SEE US THIS SATURDAY AUGUST 11th @ the Critter Jungle in Ottawa, Ontario!

RAIN OR SHINE! We shall be there! So, bring your dirty dawg and we shall wash plus towel dry for you!

We shall also have some items for sale to help raise much needed funds for the animals in need of BHRR.

AND it looks like the rain is going to be there BUT so shall we! 🙂 We are all going to be wet anyway! 😉

Here is a video taken tonight of some of the BHRR gang and our own. I have spent my day immersed with the animals for maximum dog therapy to try and help soothe my heart and soul over our most recent and shocking sudden loss of BHRR's Hamilton The Newf. 🙁 We feel like we are in a walking nightmare and most of the day has been a blur yet; all of us here have been trying to stay super busy and keep our minds plus bodies occupied so as to not think………….all of us are still reeling in shock.

This video of how well BHRR's Dozer and so many others are doing including BHRR's Ani & BHRR's Cosette and BHRR's Jetta really help find purpose to why I get up in the morning and what I look forward to each day.

SUMMER FUN 2012

Testimonials from others on BHRR's Jetta and that she does not have any condition of 'lacking self-confidence' that needed labelling and thus then treated:

#1:

My own personal experience with the beautiful black beauty that is BHRRs Jetta is limited to the BHRRs 5th Annual Microchip Clinic.

What a fabulous dog! I had the chance to interact with her for awhile and found her to be an outgoing, confident and happy dog. In being able to observe her from the baking table on and off for most of the day, I saw a dog that was open to meeting other people and dogs alike with a wagging tail and open demeanour, one who was comfortable to rest in the shade and was unruffled by the noises and action going on around her.  She presents as a vivacious young dog who will make a wonderful addition to the right fit home.

Wishing the very best of luck to BHRRs Jetta!

Maggie

……here are my observations about the lovely black beauty. From the moment she bopped out of the transport I met to bring her to you, I saw a bright and confident girl. Her transport commented on how great she was and I was surprised at how she just popped over wagging her tail at me. Not a second of nervousness or shyness. Into the car she went with me and off we drove. She was a curious and bold girl. When I met you, it took two of us to walk her to the backyard. Remember how she went confidently about sniffing everything in our very large backyard. Not an ounce of caution.  For such a young girl, she struck me with her positive energy and strength. At the barbecue she was much more polite and enjoyed her surroundings meeting all sorts of people and dogs. Her bold silly confidence had matured and evolved into a quieter confidence that training gave her. I love her! I thought she was fearless and smart. Just needed some obedience training and weight gain. Give her a big hear scratch from us

Anna Gray-Henschel

BHRR's Jetta temp foster home drop-off was rescheduled to yesterday and I dropped her off for 11 AM; yet; as of last night; we made the decision to bring her back to BHRR. I am picking her up this AM after re-arranging my day as the home said they would have BHRR's Jetta ready to leave anytime after 8 AM yet; wanted us there soon. I had even offered to pick her up last night.

She is a very versatile and balanced GD whose training has just bombed along. She rocked our July 8th 5th Annual KAH/BHRR Microchip Fundraiser and soaked up all the love possible from both people and dogs. She had a GREAT DAY! She has come to work with me, walks/hikes, this Fundraiser, to friends places and she is my 'social spazz' and in learning that she was now being labelled as lacking in 'self confidence' in this temp foster home; we made the decision to pull.

We placed what we believed to be the best matched right fit for this home and she has never lacked self confidence from the first moment that I met the transport to pick her up. She has been sweet, loving, kind and an angel. She has gone all over the place, met so many people and when I left this home, one hour later; she was settled in as the BHRR's Jetta, everyone who has met her knows. This deeply concerned us and we want her to continue to thrive. BHRR knows these dogs best and we work hard to set each dog up for maximum success and all our homes adoptive and/or temp foster receive very detailed information packages, access to their blogs, the drop-off includes a summary of all sent/discussed to ensure a great integration occuring into the new environment plus BHRR is here as a 24/7 resource etc.

We need to have her continue along this great path of social plus training development that has been created at BHRR. She is such an amazing versatile dog and is going to make that right adoptive home a FABU addition! I do not want the failure of this not working out to reflect negatively on anything that BHRR's Jetta may or may not have done during her very brief time at this place. THAT could not be further from the truth.

If any of the folks that have met her during her time at BHRR; would like to email along a testimonial to post re: BHRR's Jetta; I would be more than thrilled to post it.

The one thing that was noted at our Sunday Fundraiser; was that her one hip was beginning to trouble her as the day wore on. We knew that she did not have the best hips after seeing her when she first arrived to BHRR; yet; she was taking her time getting up and laying down throughout the day.

We continue to have her on glucosamine etc. and are ensuring that she obtains the best nutrition, vet care and proper exercise to give her the best muscle mass and strength build-up she can have.

BHRR does not advocate running with Great Danes; yet; in her case; we really want to ensure that while quality is the focus for life for her and for her to enjoy it; that; her future forever adoptive home is aware that she may well have to go on cartrophen injections at some point in her future. As she is still very much a puppy(just turned 1 in May); we need to regulate her exercise and we want her to have the most enjoyment possible; yet; we also want her to be here 7 years from now.

She spends many hours playing and romping here and is doing great and we are not sure if it was the pavement, the standing and walking around for the day; but; it was noted that her one hip was bothering her getting up and down. So, she relaxed and had a snooze or two under the shade of the trees and the many admirers plus fans came to her for loving! 🙂

Her new coat continues to come in soft, shiny black and healthy!

BHRR's Jetta is going to be temp fostered as of July 9th, 2012.

Please 'click' on the poster for more details/information! 🙂

AND to stay updated on the latest developments, join our BHRR Facebook EVENT PAGE!

BHRR's Jetta is NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!! WAY to go!

She has put on over 30 pounds of muscle mass and weight and she has a ways to go; yet; she is slowly getting there with the weight and muscle mass.

Her hair is becoming more and more soft and glossy the longer she is here and is shedding all that old, dull and coarse coat. Great nutrition, proper exercise and lots of love! 🙂

Her HWT was negative and she stands 36" at the whithers.

For those that met BHRR's Journey – the dog she became, not the dog she arrived at BHRR being; BHRR's Jetta is fairly similar. She is my new 'social spazz'. NOT a person or dog she has not liked! 🙂

Cats are unknown.

She is also no longer in a crate. I put her in a crate here and there to eat one of her three meals that she is still being fed daily; so; that we keep up on her continued foundation of having no SA. If she were to go to a hospital, it is much safer on her and calmer on all the other animals around; that she not panic or stress in a run. Also, if she ever hurt herself or became ill and needed to be on crate rest; she is ok with her own company.

She has proven 100% trustworthy in our home. 🙂

She can go to a home that works pt, ft, works from home or is semi-retired etc. as she is so versatile!!!

As we know that she is another black beauty, we are preparing for the long haul and being patient for that right match forever loving home to find her. 😉

She shall also be one of three dogs attending our July 8th 5th ANNUAL Microchip/Nail Trim & BBQ Fundraiser being held at Kanata Animal Hospital. So, for anyone seeking a new addition to their home and is interested in meeting her; here is a great opportunity! 🙂

Below are some photos taken on June 29th, 2012. ISN'T she simply marvelous! 🙂 She is playful, affectionate, with a monkey streak in her!

BHRR's Jetta – June 29th, 2012

BHRR's Jetta went to the Vet on Wednesday June 13th and her new weight was 99.88 pounds(45.4 KGs). She has put on almost 15 pounds since her arrival. So, people can well imagine JUST how thin she was upon arrival. 🙁

The Vet LOVED how responsive she was to her obedience commands! BHRR's Jetta has learned sit, down, stay, gentle and so much more since her arrival. She is so attentive to people and if you have treats, even more so…. 😉 Her leash manners are coming along very well.

She is beginning to really blow off all that old brown and dull coat now that she is on great nutrition at BHRR. You can see just how shiny and healthy it is becoming. PUS soft! Her ears are heaven. 🙂 Still some dander coming off and I am still washing her here and there(not too much) with an oatmeal based shampoo.

She received her DAPP booster and Rabies plus we did a HWT.

The Vet says that all those wee bumpies on the top of her head is puppy acne. WHO knew!

We did do a skin scraping to be sure that she was not having any demodectic mange issues and no mites present that would indicate such.

Her hair is even beginning to grow back on her belly and her tail injury is also healing well.

Once she puts on another 15-20 pounds, she shall be ready for adoption.

She is a very nice dog! VERY nice! She is my new 'social spazz' just as BHRR's Journey became. The Vet loved that term! LOL

She was so social to all dogs and people and even had no issues with Jackson the Cat at KAH. 🙂

BHRR's Jetta's Vet Appointment has been moved to June 13th, 2012.

Here is a VIDEO of BHRR's Rambo, BHRR's Rose, BHRR's Petal, BHRR's Gretta, BHRR's Jetta, BHRR's Goliath, BHRR's Freedom, JS, Drift, Guinnessand BHRR's Bloom from Sunday June 10th, 2012!

I have BHRR's Jetta scheduled to visit the Vet on June 6th. She is settling in well, has been dewormed yet I would like her to have a Vet sign-off plus obtain her Rabies vaccine. This is part of our standard protocol with all of our dogs before being placed up for adoption that we have each animal visit the Vet at least once.

She does have these tiny little spots on her head(play mouth marks?) and I have find a quarter size raw spot on the inside of one of her back legs. Should it be needed; I will bring her in earlier to visit.

She is SOOOOOOOOO active here; that it is a lot like BHRR's Riley and putting on that weight is a HUGE task. Why eat when one can play! <rolls eyes>.

BHRR's Jetta is fully integrated with everyone and one of her bff's is our Drift! I have taken two videos from last night; will be hard to see as she is so dark but, here they are! 🙂

She is also suffering from some mild SA and so, she is having to learn that her own company is ok and crate training is greatly assisting with that. She continues to learn about housebreaking and rules and NO HUMAN couches either! 😉

Both of these videos are of them on Bleach's 'couch' – which is his security blanket.

VIDEO #1
VIDEO #2

In going over BHRR's Jetta's paperwork; her birthday is May 1st, 2011. On May 3rd, 2012; she was given her DHPP Vaccine and also Advantage. Her paperwork confirms that she was spayed.

On February 12th, 2012(when she was at the Shelter before bouncing back on May 2nd, 2012); she was given Bordetella. The reason why she was surrendered back was due to 'no time'.

She is also microchipped through EIDAP and we shall work on transferring the microchip under the authority of BHRR.

I cannot find any record of a rabies vaccine and we shall have this vaccine done at KAH once she has put on some more weight.

She has been fully integrated with all the dogs here except BHRR's Riley and that shall be tomorrow. 😀 She is all gooberhead puppy and the boot camp began from the moment she walked into our house. 😉

She is eating and drinking well and has only had two accidents in the house to date; both in her crate. She will get there!

We are also working on her 'negative seeking attention' barking and already it is better than what it was on Saturday. Her crate is beside BHRR's Bloom and I see BHHRR's Bloom looking over at her as if to say 'we do not do that here!' LOL LOL

BHRR's Jetta arrived safe and sound today! We received a call last Monday that a black with white female(about 1) was returned to an SPCA in Quebec after being adopted out.

BHRR takes the next in need regardless of colour and we needed a name and per one on the thread on our BHRR Facebook Group; looking for name suggestions; this one was brought up:

"X suggests Jetta, for the Gwenmobile.. which he asks "how many dogs has she saved in that car, and it's black??"

We decided to go with the name 'Jetta' based upoon the flood of emails and texts sent our way for reasons such as:

1) I have driven my Jetta all across the USA and to the east coast of Canada and as far away as Manitoba to save animals in need of BHRR

2) we take in the next one in need regardless of colour and many other places will not take in the 'blacks' because they are not hightly adoptable

3) it is a great name for a sleek shiny black GD that certainly has 'horsepower'!

She is a bit thin yet otherwise your typical almost 1 year old untrained GD. She is 'saucy' and reminds me quite a bit of both BHRR's Mindy with those long model legs and typical byber face that makes her 100% stunning rescued dog and BHRR's Riley with her 'edginess'!

This one is going to take me for a wild ride for sure! 😉 AND I am looking forward to the hills and valleys and all the pot holes and pit stops in-between! LOL She is already 'talking' to me as I type; telling me how she feels about being in a crate. 😀

She will begin her de-worming protocol and be placed on Heartworm preventative. I will bring her in and we shall also do a HWT and obtain a weight.
