BHRR's Dozer came with me to do a hv last night. We wanted to see how he would be around cats to see if he could be temp fostered with this home and my beliefs were confirmed. He is best not suited to a home without cats.

THANKS Mr. M. the cat for being so brave! As long as Mr. M. was quiet and still, BHRR's Dozer had an interest yet was being fairly respectful yet, as soon as Mr. M. moved, BHRR's Dozer was excited.

When this boy first arrived to BHRR, he was not good with dogs under a certain weight and now I would trust him with dogs greated than 25 pounds.

He had no issues with the two dogs in the home and I had the owners stand outside in the light of their garage and home as it was dark outside and introduced BHRR's Dozer(he has met them before at our home) to them in that manner and other than a few very short loud barks, lots of tail wagging and a short rush towards them, he was just fine and all bluff with his 'I am going to bark and maybe, you will not think about hurting me 'tude'. He was all in their laps and loving and affectionate.

He did get bluffy when the gentleman was trying to putt on his leash to go into the house from their fenced in back yard as I gave the gentleman the leash to hook him up and he did a bit of a run away and so, I took the leash, hooked him up, said 'No, Dozer, Behave' and handed him back to the gentleman. He was fine then with a 'ohhhh, I have to listen to him too!' look! When it came time to leave, I gave the gentleman the leash to hook up BHRR's Dozer and no issues at all then. He was a perfect EM model 'I must listen' boy! 😀

He learned how to master stairs too! He was so cute, all on his own as he was exploring by himself as we were talking in the house and took him a few moments to figure out if he should go one or two steps at a time. Where he needed a bit of encouragement was to come back up and once he had a short words of 'you can do it', he was up and down again! LOL

BHRR's Dozer was sure to share his water snorkeling skills with everyone and help 'water' the floor with the extra! 😛

The home is a dog savvy and experienced one and if there was not a cat, I would have temp fostered this boy to them in a heartbeat. It would have been great for him to get into additional hands without me to become as I said that much more of a well rounded and balanced dog.

He was not aggressive towards the cat, yet not trustworthy at all. Who is to say that in time with lots of proper integration and patience, all would work out, yet, in Mr. M's best interest, no stress for him was the decision.

I was proud of BHRR's Dozer. HE has come soooooooooooooooooo far of his fear of men and dogs and he is often the first dog now that I intergrate the newbies too at BHRR for he is that solid!!! YAY!

WIth new men, if it is handled with calmness and no big deal, he is all sugar and putty in their hands.

He still has that monkey side to see if he can make people jump, yet, less and less as treats and loving wins him over and that we call his gooberness out and that it is not acceptable. A few seconds no longer these days and rarely to be seen. AND tonight, we did not treats at all and all praise.

We shall remain patient for that right matched home. In the meantime, I continue to work on those 'dozer' leash manners! 😉

People really need to read his blog from the bottom up and not fixate on the once very confused and scared boy that first arrived to BHRR. PATIENCE has paid off! BHRR's Cancun has a simliarity to this boy in respect to other dogs, yet with BHRR's Cancun is all Golden Temperament that way! 😀

Below are some Christmas Eve 2012 Traditional Photos of BHRR's Dozer!

BHRR's Dozer – December 24th, 2012

BHRR's Velvet is going to be temp fostered until she goes to her new home, which we are hoping is around Saturday April 6th, 2013!

She will be going to her temp foster home as of Friday February 8th, 2013.

BHRR's exam with DP is later today!

KEEP her in your thoughts!

BHRR's Scarlett has moved under a PENDING ADOPTION!!!

We shall update her blog as we can.

BHRR's Autumn had her abdominal u/s today with her Vet at KAH. Nothing obvious was found yet, her gallbladder could not be located(she is a huge dog, even if she is skinny!) BHRR's Autumn was put under a light sedation and snored her way through most of her ultrasound. Her right kidney also could not be located.

She was cleary uncomfortable when it came to the deep pressure being applied between her ribs or deep in her belly. Another Vet also was not able to locate her Bladder.

Good news, no obvious masses were found, bad news, her gallbladder could not be found either or one kidney.

So, as we have to see Dr. Javinsky for her heart u/s, we will re-visit her gallbladder then too.

She is so sad when she is at the Hospital.

AND her fecal came back Giardia Elisa Positive.

I picked up the meds for her continued UTI and we are awaiting the C&S results as this UTI is proving very resistant.

Will being shorthanded today, I was unable to take a video or photos. It was ALL hands on deck and in this case, I got the head and shoulders and her great lippies to love on! 🙂

Her weight was 49.4 KGs(108.68 pounds). Up .1 kg (0.22 of a pound) since Monday.

Bills For Today: $702.54

BHRR's Riley VIDEO from his temp foster home! 🙂

He was also a celebrity tonight as he was featured on Veronica's 'adoption' segment on Jack!!!

May this extra exposure help his forever loving forever home out there find him! 🙂

BHRR's Riley – January 2013 – LOVING the fireplace in this deep freeze weather!

Some results are back on some of BHRR's Autumn's repeat and additional testing:

She still is battling an UTI. 🙁

Her ALP is now quite elevated whereas the last bw we did it was completely normal. She is 798. Normal 5-131.

Cortisol was normal and due to her youth, unlikely to have Cushing's.

Possibility is gallbladder.

Recommendation is an u/s of her stomach now.

We have asked to have an u/s of her heart done at the same time with Dr. Javinsky.

We have our first BIG BHRR BOD meeting tonight and shall be brainstorming on creative thoughts to fundraiser for her ever mounting bills as we remain committed to her welfare and in receiving the best care possible.

AND those cruciates, one or both depending on what Dr. P also feels once we get to that point as I am staying positive!

She remains happy, full of energy, alert and her affection level could knock you over in its violent expressions of love! 🙂 She is so deserving! Her Vet even commented about how less lame she is now and not toe touching due to all the muscle and tone she has developed. 🙂

We are looking at having the abdominal u/s on Thursday and seeing about getting the heart done then too if not, shortly afterwards.

I shall be picking up more antibiotics and we are sending off for a C&S on the urine.

BHRR's Autumn's Bills $4,535.81

BHRR's Cherry is now AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!!

Her last 'test' was the Pet Valu Community Education & Awareness event that she attended with BHRR's Kris Kringle and was a great ambassador to BHRR and to her breed on Saturday January 12th, 2013 at Pet Valu in Stittesville!

WHAT a real sweetie and great with all people and dogs!!! She was ONE social butterfly…fluttering here and flitting there and wanting to shop and greet everyone! LOL She even liked to shop! 😉

We were talking about how some of the staff owned pot belly pigs and one of our approved foster homes came in and they also own a pot belly pig and within seconds, guess what walked through the door??? A pot belly pig! COULD not believe it! BHRR's Cherry was amazing with the pig and made herself as small as she could be to convince the pig to play with her.

She had a great day, WOWED everyone with how far she has come during her rehab at BHRR and I think stole a few hearts in the process. 😉

She can go to a home with cats, others dogs, kids, a home that works pt, ft, from home, semi-retired, retired etc. She is yet another very versatile dog! :)

She also just showed all how amazing her obedience has now become since she arrived to BHRR and under Gwennie's Doggie Boot Camp! :)

She has proven 100% trustworthy in our home and other than still needing to put on a few more pounds, she is not in a critical emaciated state and is just a bit skinny and that will come. JUST do not leave socks out….or things on the counter for she will counter surf and will swallow socks!!!

Below are some photos from her amazing day at Pet Valu and some before and after shots during her rehab at BHRR!

UPDATE: BHRR's Autumn was back at the Vet today as we begin the next steps for her.

Her weight was down…. 🙁 49.30 KGs(108.46 pounds). All marveled at the amazing muscle tone she has developed since her arrival though. 🙂

Everyone had a giggle at how she kept wanting to sit on the Vet's lap! Her energy level is FANTASTIC! She is playful, affectionate, strong and no temp etc. If she was not so skinny, you would not think anything was wrong with her. She is bright eyed and happy and she is still only eating about 50% of what she should be.

We have begun the next move forward steps for her in trying to determine why she is not putting on any significant weight plus checking out that heart. We are repeating a UA, another fecal, did a Cortisol sample, tick panel and even more bw including Superchem, CBC and T4 etc.

In listening to her heart, the Vet could not hear any HM yet, we do know that it is positional.

Her eye and ear infections are all gone, her hair is coming in nice and soft now that we figured out the food allergies. 🙂

From here, we are waiting an exam with Dr. Philibert to see if he believes both cruciates can benefit from a TPLO once we figure out her heart and weight concerns. He does feel that she is a surgical candidate yet, for both, is the question and that will depend on whatever else we can find out.

Her vet wanted to see the results of the latest testing before moving to an ECG or Echo.

So, now we wait for the latest results.

Her bills today were: $535.84 and the total of her bills to date are:
$4,535.81

Up until February 8th, 2013, you can put in an order of BHRR's Journey's Heart Biscuits or two other amazing varieties(Kyo Kisses & Danelet Delights) through the Anna and the FACEBOOK PAGE she created where all monies raised up to $2,000 shall benefit Genesis and BHRR.

We would be using any monies raised that would come to BHRR for dogs like BHRR's Autumn. 🙂

BHRR's Autumn – she loves her GWENNIE! & BHRR's Autumn with Mason – December 24th, 2012

BHRR's Freedom is healing very well since he had his shoulder wound attended to last Monday.  🙂

I want to thank Dee from our hearts and on behalf of BHRR's Freedom for the very generous donation to his Vet bills. We are so warmed by your kindness.

BHRR's Freedom has a very special angel looking over him with you!

The Doxycycline is working! YAY! YAY! YAY!

OMG! YAY! 🙂

This means that BHRR's Abby can have her vaccines and then be spayed and from there, be placed up for adoption! OMG! I am so happy for her! 🙂

BHRR's Velvet is moving to an ADOPTED status! 🙂 She went up for adoption on the 7th of January and now is ADOPTED.

She came with me to do a homevisit today and this home shall adopt her in April of 2013. It will be the same home that adopted BHRR's Maggie May! 🙂

We believe that a home should adopt one dog at a time(we have very rarely – ONLY three times in 17 years adopted two dogs at the same time – and in two cases it was a bonded pair that needed to stay together – did not come in together yet, they bonded at BHRR and needed to be adopted together) and we believe that homes should adopt one dog first and get all settled and then come back for another one. :)

SO, they shall come back in April and adopt BHRR's Velvet.

Below is a photo of BHRR's Velvet from our traditional Christmas Even photos! I shall take a photo of her and her forever loving family when they come to get her in April.

We learned today that she was great with chi's and cats! 🙂

BHRR's Velvet – December 24th, 2012

BHRR's Maggie May was ADOPTED today! 🙂

BHRR's Maggie May(our tripod Great Pyr) & her absolutely heavenly adoptive mom!
THIS photo just captures them both so well! 🙂
ADOPTED January 20th, 2013
AND they also wanted to adopt BHRR's Velvet and that shall be in April 2013 as we believe that homes should adopt one dog first and get all settled and then come back for another one. 🙂
SOOOOOOOOOOO, really, BHRR did two adoptions today…just one is staying with me until April. 😉

CONGRATS! 🙂

As Kinsley posted for me earlier on the BHRR fb page, I would drive TEN times the distance to do an adoption to a home like hers! The 12 hour roadtrip today WAS so worth it! This home first contacted me back on November 24th, 2012 and we have worked through this process slowly and our patience has paid off!

BHRR's Maggie May was not seen as a 'handicapped' dog at all in her eyes! She was seen as a very special tripod Great Pyr and it was meant to be…it really was!! THIS is why I have BHRR! WHY I do what I do 24/7…..HOMES like this for dogs like HER give me strength to take and help the next one despite all the pain and hurt and sadness.

I had so many great tears today…SOOOOO many!

I am still beaming!

I hugged BHRR's Maggie May, I told her over and over as I hid my face in her fur and whispered how her and my patience has brought her to where she is meant to now be…that I can 'let go' and let her begin this new chapter!

OMG! I am sooooooooo happy!

AND for BHRR's Velvet too…..this home has always wanted a Great Dane in their life since they were wee and that time shall come in a few months.

The dog bed that BHRR's Maggie May is laying on has a very special story.

On my way to go to pick up BHRR's Cancun from the airport on Thursday the 17th, Sonyia handed me a dog bed and told me that her husband(who is a Vet) had done a recent home visit to humanely euthanize a 17 year old GSx. The whole family was there including their two teenage sons who had known this sweet dog their whole life. At XMAS, they bought a beautiful dog bed for their dear canine family member and she passed away not long after.

They wanted to donate the dog bed to help another dog and their grief was so strong. Dr. mike said that he knew of a place that could use the dog bed and how about if the dog bed came to BHRR and when one of their special dogs was adopted, a photo would be taken and sent to them so that they could know that another very amazing special dog was being helped, and perhaps it may assist them through their heartbreaking loss of their own family member.

When BHRR's Maggie May was adopted today, I brought out this dog bed that she and BHRR's Velvet enjoyed on the way down to the TO area and told her new adoptive family the story and the family was in tears of sadness and empathy for this kind family's loss and they wanted me to ensure that Sonyia was aware of their gratefulness and thanks and even offered to pay for the bed. I said if I could get a photo of BHRR's Maggie May on the bed, for the family to have, that they would really find that comforting.

BHRR's Maggie May and her new forever loving mom and BHRR's Maggie May on this very special dog bed. So touching…..

BHRR's Kringle is NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!!

He last 'test' was the Pet Valu Community Education & Awareness event that he attended as a great ambassador to BHRR and to his breed on Saturday January 12th, 2013 at Pet Valu in Stittesville!

WHAT a real ham and great with all people and dogs!!! There was only one dog a Doberman male that he was not comfortable around and that was completely fine. I had asked the Owner whether the dog was intact and they said no and that he was not recently neutered and they said he was a rescue and neutered and every time he walked by BHRR's Kringle, BHRR's Kringle would do some barking. He was not yanking and pulling and lunging yet, he was not comfortable. He was positively re-directed and all was back to normal in his world.

We were talking about how some of the staff owned pot belly pigs and one of our approved foster homes came in and they also own a pot belly pig and within seconds, guess what walked through the door??? A pot belly pig! COULD not believe it! Now, BHRR's Cherry(who also attended this event was amazing with the pig and made herself as small as she could be to convince the pig to play with her) BUT, BHRR's Kringle was very interested and excited by the pig and so, we let him keep his distance and enjoy the pig from afar. Just seemed that letting him 'splat' the pot belly pig to play would not be in the best interest of all involved! 😉

He had a great day, took more hearts and developed many more fans! LOL

He can go to a home with cats, others dogs, kids, a home that works pt, ft, from home, semi-retired, retired etc. He is yet another very versatile dog! 🙂

He just showed all how amazing his obedience has now become since he arrived to BHRR and under Gwennie's Doggie Boot Camp! 🙂

He has proven 100% trustworthy in our home and other than still needing to put on much needed weight – I like to see another 20 pounds or so and he is going to continue to fill out as he matures, he is not in a critical emaciated state and is just a bit skinny and that will come.

Below are some photos from his amazing day at Pet Valu!

On January 18th, 2013 at 1:19 AM, I sent the following to Pamela to update her. We had a beautiful long conversation for about an hour on my way home on my hands free and I truly cannot wait to got to Cancun to assist them.

What they do in Mexico is INCREDIBLE! We think we see terrible things in Canada yet, talk about being in the trenches of rescue hell. Two days before BHRR's Cancun arrived, a GD was picked up and brought to their latest campaign – they spayed and neutered voer 1,300 animals in just 6 days in their latest campaign – and she had a gunshot wound. A lovely female Harlequin GD. The hole was small yet the blood clots that were coming out of her were enormous and she was suffering with major internal organ damage.

They see machete wounds and dogs are dying of distemper and erlichia(transmitted by ticks) and hit by cars just laying broken on the side of the road, abused, neglected and so much worse, it would truly break your heart. They work hard at educating and promoting responsible dog ownership. One place that I was told about is trying to care for over 200 dogs!!!

For more information on how you can help please visit CANDi and islaanimals!

Back to what I sent to Pamela:

He is here and settling in beautifully!!

Ate the very small supper I offered for him, had another pee – that is four since we took him off the flight and is resting well!!

I will send photos and updates and they shall be on his blog that I shall create on our website and sending the very short videos I have now to you!!

Thank you! Thank you!

BHRR's Cancun – Two more photos of his time in Cancun, Mexico

HERE is BHRR's Cancun sat the airport ready for his flight to Canada on January 17th, 2013!

I was so excited and thrilled that he finally was coming! To work on assisting him from afar to now being able to assist and love on him in person…FINALLY!

I made the 12 hour roundtrip drive and thanks to my co-pilot from Brighton, ON who kept me company and also helped me navigate to the airport on the magic 407 highway off Brock in TO! 🙂

BHRR's Cancun – January 17th, 2013 AND with two of his angels from Petopia Cancun that saved him!

The Home Visit for BHRR's Maggie May's potential adoption has been scheduled for Saturday January 19th, 2013.

I am also bringing BHRR's Velvet with me.

Will update the blogs ASAP.

BHRR's Freedom was dropped of at KAH yesterday as the one wound on his shoulder(the one that everyone, us included, felt would heal very well out of all of them!) was not healing well.

If did not help that he would scratch at it while it was trying to heal and pulled the sutures out and even though he had a sock and shirt on, he was still managed to cause more trauma.

The antibiotics just could not stay on top of it either and I wanted a re-check, new the edges would need to be debrided and the wound flushed. As to whether it needed to be re-sutured, that would have to be decided by his Vet once they were able to get a much closer look at it after the debriding. It was granulating quite nicely under the top layer of pulled sutures and edges of dead tissue.

He weighed 54.50 KGs(119.90 pounds) up from his last weight of December 2011 of 51 KGs(112.20 pounds). He looks great!!!

He was so well loved by everyone! They kept making comments about how nice and obedient he was and sweet plus how large his feet were! 😀

I have photos after his wound was taken care of, no sutures were decided to be needed and it looks FANTASTIC!

Her was still very nervous of the world YET, miles away from where he was upon first arriving to BHRR.

I really am touched immensely by this boy………very much….

He shall remain on antibiotics for another week.

BHRR's Freedom's Right Shoulder After Second Vet Visit – January 14th, 2012

BHRR"s Porridge weighed 73.20KGS(161.04 pounds) today at work.

I brought him in for his manicure/pedicure as he has a special date coming up on the 20th of January and he wanted to be uber groomed!

Will try to get photos to post!

He is one walking miracle!! 🙂

UPDATE: BHRR's Canvas has put on another 11.66 pounds!! Good for you sweetie!! He now weighs 114.40 pounds(52 KGS).

He still has a ways to go and also emotionally for while he was better at KAH today, he still was quite nervous.

At home, he is a complete wing nut with a tail that wags vigourously with his tail in a helicopter motion! He travelled in the car like a pro and his leash manners continue to just improve and they were impeccable today! 🙂 He was so quiet and well behaved at KAH. Very proud of this young man…very!

Thanks to 'you know who you are' for taking the time to give him some treats after his show of bravery for his HWT. 🙂 That he began to take liver treats from you after I gave him a few was huge for his emotional boosting courage!!

Baby steps and we are moving forward!! Proud of you BHRR's Canvas!!

Two photos of him below are from our traditional Christmas Eve Photo Shoot. 🙂 He was really scared of the Santa Hat, so we put it behind Sean and eventually, he let it lay near him. As long as no one was wearing it, he was ok.

BHRR's Canvas – December 24th, 2012

UPDATE: BHRR's Abby is at work with me at KAH and has put on 14.3 pounds(6.5 KGS) since her last Vet Visit on December 3rd!! WTG!! Thumbs up pretty lady!! We are going to re-visit her 'cough' and heart plus she has some liquid diarehea today at the Hospital – could just be stress, yet, we will discuss.

She now weighs  44.7 KGS(98.34 pounds). 🙂 Still have a ways to go yet, YAY! 🙂

Her last x-rays showed a normal size heart and will repeat her bw if needed too. Whatever she needs, she shall receive. 🙂
Until she is deemed healthy, I will not be doing vaccines or spaying her.

She is on Metronidazole for her diarehea and we are repeating bw. She had another manicure plus pedicure and temp was normal and her Vet is stumped as to the cough….very intermittent. So, we shall see if the bw comes back with supporting a possible residual URI or if we need to repeat x-rays etc. She was such a ham!! AND the stacked muscle she has from free play and her coat is really starting to shine so glossy. I am holding off on those vaccines still and spaying until we can get her cough sorted out. Her heart remains sounding normal at this time.

Below are two photos of her from our traditional Christmas Eve photo moments.

BHRR's Abby – December 24th, 2012

BHRR's Cherry's UA results were unremarkable – problem seems restricted to vaginitis, no evidence of cystitis. So, she shall remain on the Clavamox until the 17th(course is done).

Her repeat blood work was also YAY!

Per her Vet – m1 leukocytosis due to mature neutrophilia – possibly attributable to vaginitis, stress

ALP is now just mildly elevated at 141(was 889) – this is likely attributable to bone growth(young dog).

SOOOOOOOOOO, once she finishes her antibiotics, she can be placed up for adoption! 🙂

BHRR's Velvet is READY FOR ADOPTION! YAY! YAY! YAY!

FABU Uber wonderful girl! 🙂

Very versatile, trustworthy in our home, friendly and social and going to make someone's family an AMAZING addition! 🙂

Another gem that shall be very much missed once her right matched forever loving home finds her!

AND we shall remain patient knowing that her right matched forever loving him is not seeing a BIG BLACK DOG, yet, BHRR's Velvet!

BHRR's Kringle – January 5th, 2013

ON a play date today after his Vet visit with some amazing BHRR Volunteers! 🙂 He went to Global and Coco Mutts and he CHARMED all!

THANKS Lynn & AL!

UPDATE: BHRR's Kringle weighed 121.44 pounds (55.2 KGS) – THIS means he has put on almost 22 pounds since he first arrived to BHRR so emaciated!, charmed ALL he met and even had a bit of a playdate today with two fabu people! I handed him off to four people throughout the day and his manners MADE me proud! GONE is the pulling, yanking bulldozer gooberhead! He is sitting and laying down on command, walking and minding his p's & q's beautifully AND we did a HWT, full detailed final exam and chipped him today too. I did give him his boosters as well.

He still needs another 15-20 pounds as he is still growing being young and having also come in emaciated, yet, that shall come on in time and so………..next week, he shall have some great news to share!

ALL I can say about this boy is WOW! WOW! WOW! Great with people of all ages and sizes and all dogs(now, if a dog is small and is quite spastic in their zooming, he can get excited and needs to be told – 'gentle, no splatting!'), and cats and loves the car and sigh………WHAT a bomb proof dog he is fast becoming.

He is 100% trustwothy in the house and can go to a home that works pt, ft, semi-retired, works from home pt or ft or is retired etc. HE is just one of those amazing versatile dogs…again! 🙂

I received so many wonderful compliments about him about how he is so well mannered and calm and attentive. YOU make me proud BHRR's Kringle! 😉

Here are BHRR's Spice's X-Rays:

The first two attempts to get BHRR's Cancun to Canada failed due to various reasons – December 16th and January 5th.

So, I was most cautious when the new date was scheduled of January 17th, 2013 for him to arrive in TO.

Yet, the closer we got, the more excited we became that all the patience and work and time was going to finally bring him to Canada!

The flight details!

His arrival date is January 17th.  Her flight number is TS 747 on Air Transat
Departs cancun 12:30 CT Arrives Toronto  5:15pm EST.

Two more photos of him below. He would spend his days in this pool! HE was so hot!

December 2012 in 'his' pool!

Sean called me at KAH @ 7:39 PM on January 2nd, 2012. He said that there was another coyote attack despite three adults supervising the dogs in the 3+ fenced in acres for the dogs.

We replaced all the fencing that we could from page and gaming to 4×2's while the weather was still warm enough to break ground yet, the snow began to fly and the ground froze. So, most of our original thought to be greatsafe and has been for a few years of fencing of page and gaming fence is still up and we shall have to endeavor to replace all with 4×2's come spring/summer or do a fence within a fence idea etc.

It was one month and one day since BHRR's Jetta's attack. They are getting much more bold and this one jumped the fence – and that fence is 6+ feet high.

The coyotes fanned the area and all targets have been submissive dogs for the coyotes.

Sean was not 100% sure if BHRR's Freedoms should go in and sent me some photos. I said that I would look closer when I got home yet, yes, he should go in. KAH was closing at 8 PM and I drove right home with BHRR's Spice and took one look at BHRR's Freedom. The biggest concern was if the ear could be repaired. Ears are terrible things to try and surgical fix when injured. He did have two other punctures that could possibly require sutures yet, would most likely heal well sans sutures after flushing and put on heavy duty antibiotics. He also had other smaller punctures/wounds.

It was exactly two weeks to the date that I had been at Alta Vista with BHRR's Dana. I did go back the day after she passed away to figure out the accounting of the bills yet, it was an eerily feeling in many ways for not only it was exactly two weeks, yet, it was within minutes of the same time that I had arrived with her.

His weight was a solid and very muscled(he received several compliments on his nice body tone/muscle).

BHRR's Freedom was excellent on his leash manners and was a bit nervous getting into the car and I felt bad for him as this experience 'out and about' would not be the uber positive one like all the others(save for his neuter!) for him.

He did all that was asked of him and I could not be more proud of his willingness to trust and listen to me. He was slouched low to the ground on more than one occassion yet, overall, was at least standing

He is so sweet and a very loving boy and I know that that right matched forever loving home is going to see in him what we do….a really special boy that has been so wronged done by before being rescued and that with patience, time, consistency, love and structure, he shall continue becoming the best dog he can be and he is one AMAZING dog already!

We remain patient to then…..

Yet, back to his Vet Visit.

The Vet agreed that the ear was the worst and that it would be tricky to try and repair for an ear is a tough thing to do surgery on – it was very jagged and the inside flap more than the outside – and the question was 'if' an attempt should be made. Yet, with how it was presenting, we all agreed, something did need to be done for it could not stay the way it was. We completely accepted that his ear would not look 'normal' after that and all the other wounds/punctures, would be flushed as the smell of infection was quickly setting in. Amazing how fast that bacteria that teems form the mouth causes infection. I left it with the ICU/Emerg Vet if they felt it was warranted to suture any of the punctures while he was sedated – in the end, they did two. They did feel that they would have healed fine without yet, I supported them being sutured if it would make things heal better for him.

They did a quick reversal on him yet, did not give him all the Antiseden as being stressed and nervous, this would allow him to rest longer while he was in recovery. I appreciated that the Vet understood what I was saying about BHRR's Freedom and that this was in his best interest. I felt much more comfortable leaving him for a few more hours and what an intuitive Vet! 🙂

He was out of surgery by 4:00 AM and he could come home anytime after 7 AM and he was headed home by 8 AM.

He is on Clavamox and Deramaxx and I shall remove the sutures in about 10-14 days time.

When the Vet talked to me at 4 AM, they mentioned they were so pleased by how nicely his ear did repair and that there would only be a few spots that may look 'crinkly'. They also discussed the mild debriding that had to be done on several areas yet, was not extensive. I thanked them profusely. VERY!

I ALSO want to thank the angel profusely who asked if I had enough funds to begin treatment for BHRR's Freedom. With BHRR's Dana's credit on the account by her life angels, I was 50% covered for treatment to begin and I paid the balance out of my own pocket for his bills.

FOR anyone thinking of wishing to consider to donate; I would ask to call Alta Vista Animal Hospital – (613) 731-6851 – and say you would like to put down a deposit for a credit on the account of 'FREEDOM' Boers so that the next BHRR doggie in need can benefit from your heart and kindness who will have to go to Emergency.

I am going to keep putting on a small amount each month as I can to keep building up a savings fund for emergencies do happen and over the last year, BHRR has had its share of dogs, have to go to Emerge as KAH and LAH were closed. Our funds have been so depleted and we keep trying to build up that 'slush' fund again.

Below are two photos that Sean sent my way of BHRR's Freedom's ear and neck on his iPhone, and the quality is not that great.

I shall take photos of BHRR's Freedom's healing progression and post as well.

HE is one very lucky boy….VERY! AND the whole time, he never once tried to fight back. He is such a sweet boy and the coyotes felt he was an 'easy' target. 🙁

BHRR's Freedom Neck and ear  – January 2nd, 2012

I also wish to post BHRR's Freedom's December 24th, TRADITIONAL BHRR Christmas Eve Photos

BHRR's Freedom with Sean & BHRR's Freedom – December 24th, 2012 – WHAT a handsome dude!

I took BHRR's Cherry to the Vet's today. I wanted to get an updated weight and to have an exam – she was having a discharge over the last few days from her vulva – and if she was healthy do her vaccines.

I also did a HWT plus repeated her bloodwork based upon the results that were found back on her November bloodwork.

She ROCKED the car, did very well with her leash manners and she gave her paw very nicely to all that would greet her! 🙂 She was only mildly nervous of one of the Vets, a male. Yet, after some reassurance was feeling more confident.

She weighed a very wiggly 37 KGS(81.4 pounds) and is more likely closer to 85 pounds and she does not need to many more pounds before she shall be at her ideal weight.

There were a couple of comments from people while I was out with her about how 'skinny' she was and I just asked, can you see her ribs and they replied barely….then, she is getting pretty close to perfect if you can barely see all her ribs and one should always very faintly see the last two ribs on their non hairy dogs.

She is a very pettite and very feminine GD. She should not be 100 pounds right now.

We held off on her vaccines for the discharge did prove me conrrect that she has a UTI and we are running a UA by cysto.

I meant to give her a manicure and a pedicure while she was there and so, we shall just do it at home.

I was hoping to be able to place her up for adoption next week yet, with now having to go on Clavamox for her UTI – the discharge was pus on the cytology slide – and so, we have to wait until she is healthy and I can give her the last of her vaccines.

This just gives her more time to get better and better with her obedience, confidence and to add a few more pounds. 🙂 No rush!

Here is a VIDEO of her car ride into KAH! WHAT a passenger she makes!

AND here is her updated slide of how progress to date:

AND any future adoptive home MUST know that she will swallow socks and so BE CAREFUL!

She has full run of the house and is 100% trustworthy in our home when we go out.

I brought BHRR's Spice into work today for as of last night, she was limping.

I had put all dogs out for the night for a final pee and she was out just minutes and she came in limping…sigh. 🙁 Poor baby…

BHRR's Spice had told me that her New Year's Resolution was to not hurt or try to kill herself and not even 24 hours into the New Year….

She let me look it all over and there was nothing stuck in between her toes like ice or a small stick and she was doing some weight bearing.

I put her on crate rest and 50 mg of Deramaxx. She still wanted to play, eat and drink normally. Yet, limited activity for her. She had a really good night, nothing abnormal noted.

There was no notieable swelling either. As of this AM, she was not weight bearing at all and the foot/knee was a bit swollen.

I cancelled BHRR's Abby's appointment for tonight and brought in BHRR's Spice instead. With the worry that I did not want her foot stepped on, I did not bring both into KAH.

She weighed 25.90 KGs(56.98 pounds) and on the way in, she had a small puke in the car too. 🙁

A full exam did not reveal anything different than my own findings from last night and this AM. I asked for x-rays and I will post them later as I am still at work(on a break!).

We ended up x-raying more than just the left paw as her Vet wanted to compare both feet to see what is 'normal' for her.

Per the findings:

"Radiographs of the L and R forepaws do not reveal any obvious fractures or other abnormalities.

dorsopalmer and lateral views of the L and R carpus and mannus are reviewed
L DP – there is a soft tissue swelling of the digit 4, no apparent fractures.
L and R lateral – there are mineral opacities present at the doral aspect of the metacarpophalangeal joint. Due to oblique angle?

No bony lesions seen that would cause acute onset lameness of LF"

Treatment Plan:
Continued Crate Rest & Deramaxx 50 mg SID for 5 days. Should lameness not resolve, further investigation shall be required.

We also did her nails and I noticed several Papiloma's in her mouth and on her lower lip. Sigh….

Poor BHRR's Spice.

Her right cherry eye is looking fairly resolved now, yet, her left eye is not well and the move forward plan is not to do yet another surgery until she is older….with all the failures to date. So, she shall not be placed up for adoption until such time as we can resolve that for her.

SHE was a SUPERSTAR today!!! OMG! She won over so many people with her charm and 'spice'!
