AND, AND, AND………….our small rescue of BHRR did ADOPTION #10 for 2013!!!!

BHRR's Promise was ADOPTED tonight!!!!!!!!!!

Just home now! Thank you to Allison for assisting on this HV!

So happy for BHRR's Promise……have to admit, always a bit misty-eyed to let them go YET, sooooooooooo filled with happiness!

Joy & Debbie!!! Another one of your amazing dogs is now with their right matched forever loving home!

With it being so dark, they said they would send me some photo's!

BHRR`s Promise is under a PENDING ADOPTION!

Her blog shall be updated as we can!

BHRR's Promise is NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! 🙂

She can go to a home as an only dog OR she can go to a home that already has a right matched personality fit dog, male or female.

She can go to a home that works pt, ft, works from home, semi-retired or retired. ANOTHER versatile BHRR canine! 🙂

She is 100% housebroken, good leash manners, quite obedient and the one thing I wish for her is LOTS of space to run…for she LOVES running….and, to watch her is truly a delight! She will make you laugh and smile and even well up with a tear with how emotional she is in her sheer joy of being free! 🙂 She is a wonderful travel companion too! Short VIDEO of her below. She much rather have checked out the car than pay attention to the camera! LOL

BHRR'sPromiseAugust31st2013

She has become so outgoing, affectionate and loving….curious too! 🙂

She is going to make someone a very special addition! She is truly stunning, both inside and out!

HER REALITY SLIDE is below of her rehab journey at BHRR!

BHRR'sPromise

UPDATE: BHRR's Promise has put on another 7.7 POUNDS!!

Since her arrival to BHRR, she has NOW put on 29.36 pounds of muscle mass and weight!!

AND, there is a home that is really interested in her to adopt and soon, BHRR's Promise shall be ready to be adopted!

This is the GD that was emaciated and was left alone for over 16 hours a day crated and would scream if anyone went near her or tried to touch her!!

NOT ANY LONGER!!!

UPDATE: Soooooooooo, BHRR's Promise is hanging out with me at KAH today and her new weight is………DRUMROLLLLL!

50.2 KGs(110.44 pounds!)….she has put on another 19.14 pounds!! WAHOOOO!!! WTG!!!

She is having her hwt today, fecal tested etc. and I want to have that tail rechecked with all those pretty much now healed abscesses and she had one broken joint top of her tail when she arrived.

I have a short video to post from today of her and will try to snag some updated photos too!

In another 7 pounds or so, I will be very pleased with her weight!!

On the slightly sad side, she had a set back in her emotional and behavoural rehab for she was scared – not intentionally – by someone at the Hospital and she went behind me in nervousness and did a small bit of fear growling…..YET, she was great with everyone else at KAH throughout the day and even at PV Stittsville. She was indifferent to the cat there and did not bother with any of the dogs. THE only other time she showed fear was when two kids came into the store. I just re-directed and she was great.

YET, the huge plus is that this gorgeous BBBBB that was once left alone 16 hours a day and screamed when anyone went near her or touched her, IS no longer that terrified girl…..

So, we will continue to forge forward one step at a time and continue with doing our visits through our BHRR Visitation/Play Date program and she will get there…..

Considering that I have only had her over a month, HUGE thumbs up to her!

VIDEO BELOW AND BEFORE AND AFTER PHOTOS BELOW TOO!

A short time ago, I received an email from the most talented and I want to say also, very beautiful and special Liz Bradley of The Ottawa Dog Blog.

http://ottawadogblog.ca/2013/08/we-won-the-top-most-influential-dog-blog-online/

As many are aware, there was a voting contest recently for the Most Influential Dog Blog online and the competition was quite tough AND, thanks to such an incredible surrounding community The Ottawa Dog Blog WON! By taking 60% of the votes!

HUGE Congratulations Liz & Jane!!! Extremely well deserved! Your blog is quite important and valued deeply by so many and you make a BIG difference daily with all your efforts! I have loved watching your amazing 'baby' grow plus develop!

AND, what so humbly surprised me(AND, made me grab yet, another tissue…this time with a welling up of good tears!), was that Liz/Jane was awarded a lifesaving generous gift of $500 donation to the charity of her choice AND they chose BHRR!! As they have posted about, there are SO many great r/q Rescues deserving and in need and, I am touched, humbled and feel privileged to have our small rescue chosen to be the recipient of such an incredible gesture……Just honoured! Immensely!

There really needs to be more words to express THANK YOU! I am MORE thank thankful! I am genuinely appreciative plus grateful and filled with intense gratitude…….

THE BELOW IS FROM LIZ/JANE:

"It was a difficult decision as to the charity who we would pick to receive the donation as all of the Ottawa charities work so hard.

We decided on Birch Haven Rescue and Rehabilitation to receive the $500 donation! BHRR is an amazing rescue who is in need of money to feed the large and giant breeds they rescue – this money will go a long way towards food and vet bills for them!

Thank you again to all who voted. I am so very proud to live in this great city surrounded by fellow dog lovers.

With love and belly rubs,
Liz (and Jane)"

**Could I please ask our fans/supporters/family/friends to take a moment and go over and CONGRATULATE Liz/Jane immensely and tell them HOW uber awesome they are with what they do daily!!!**

AND, here is what I wrote on their lovely Blog post!

THANK you again to BHRR's Cosette's fabu mom for working with members of the BHRR BOD on this poster!

Katoby Distribution is having their FIRST even Campaign For Rescue Voting Contest!

This contest was created via nominations and on Monday July 1st, BHRR received an email regarding this voting contest and what a surprise PLUS honour to note that we were one of the organizations chosen to participate!

They have 4 prize packs totaling over $4000 in valuable food and products to give to the rescue groups you think deserve it! Top 3 dog rescues and the top cat rescue will each win a prize pack (as determined by votes). One lucky voter will also receive a price pack worth over $250!

Voting ends July 15 at noon – one vote per day per person!

Per the transporter of BHRR's Promise to me, this was one of the skinniest dogs that she had ever seen plus transported AND this person has transported dogs like BHRR's Canvas to me – the emaciated and terrified Great Dane.

I was unable to get proper photo's or JUST how emaciated she was….I have two below that I have posted. I did take a video and you can better see starting at 19 seconds and REALLY see at 21 second JUST how bad her body condition is. 🙁

BHRR's Promise

On June 17th, 2013, I saw a post for a male Boxer in need….everything about the Boxer was solid and I thought 'someone needs to help him.' Within 18 minutes of the post, I made a post saying that BHRR would step up to assist if needed. Shortly, afterwards, a post was made that another group was looking for a foster spot for him yet, there was another terrified GD in need.

Some things are meant to be. *IF* I had not seen that post(I do not scope through FB often….yet, THINK of all my friends and family very much!), this GD was slated to be pts…

I was told that the information would be emailed my way and photos. Photo's are never hugely important to me for if there is a dog in need, we will help the next one regardless of age, colour, sex, breed etc. 🙂 If the dog has an injury or skin condition that would enable us to better be in a position to prepare to assist, then, we love photo's! 🙂

SOOOOOOOOO, as the person who made the thread post stated, a Boxer saved a Great Dane in need AND she is another BBBBB! 🙂

This is what came my way in an June 17th, @ 6:21 pm from one evaluator:
"2 yr old female dane. Brought in because no time. Left alone 16 hours/day! Nervous, uneasy with people. Uneasy, nervous with other dogs. Apparently was attacked by a pitbull in the past."

AND this was from another evaluator on her in the same email:

"Hi Gwen,
Here is the photo's of the GD female.  She is very nervous and obviously under socialized.  She is uneasy with other dogs and people as well.  She is afraid of everything and needs ALOT of TLC and work.  She by no means a dog that can be sent to a non breed rescue as she needs understanding, alot of time and effort.  This poor girl was left alone for 16 hour days and this would certainly explain her behaviour of being freaked out by anything not familiar.  Apparently she was attacked by another dog in her past, which may also contribute to her nervousness around other dogs.
She was tested to the best of the evaluators ability for food aggression which she ran away from when trying to retrieve the bowl.  Other attempts to evaluate to standard has not been completed because she simply screams in terror.  It is very difficult to give you the full picture.  We believe that when she calms down, gains trust only then will you be able to complete the evaluation with effectiveness.
This girl is a hot mess.   She is absolutely not a candidate for regular adoption.
I do not mean to paint such a horrible picture of this girl, however I do believe that you need to know the whole picture before you consider X.  She is in a pathetic state, shut down, and terrified.
We could not say at this time if she is salvageable, but we do believe that her best chances are with a rescue that has the expertise to accommodate her, to give her the chance to blossom.  The ONLY rescue that we believe can accomplish this would be you.
However, being that this is a very difficult case, we understand fully if you cannot help.  I appreciate your input as always.
If you do wish to consider her for rehabilitation at Birch Haven, we will have her sterilized to try an off set added expenses.
Again I thank you for reading and am open to any input.
Best to you Gwen"

On Monday June 17th, @ 6:30 PM, this was my response:

"I WANT to help her….I so want to HELP her!

I would be so touched to be considered……..

Those eyes…..poor girl…she is so tormented….."

On Monday June 17th @ 6:34 PM, I received the following:

"Hi Gwen.
You are the only one we would consider.  We cannot send her anywhere else.
Thank you so very much Gwen.  It is of course a HUGE YES.
We can get her sterilized.
Let me know.
And thank you once again Gwen."

Arrangements were made for June 28th, 2013 for her to come to BHRR. This gave the Shelter time to alter her.

I am calling her BHRR's Promise for while I go in with my eyes wide open, I am staying so very positive for her and saying that she is 'full of promise'. EVERY dog deserves a chance…..this is what my promise is to her in turn too…to give her everything I have and am to give her this opportunity for her own forever loving home! 🙂
