BHRR’s Miss Mollie!
~15 month old Standard Poodle/Saint BernardX

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

Unfortunately, the person who was to do her professional photo’s is down with the flu – Feel Better Soon! – and we do not wish to delay Miss Mollie making her special announcement any longer! So…..candid picture it is!

This girl is positively da bomb! She is super social, playful – she does like to play rough and that is her play style. As she has had proper manners taught to her plus receiving appropriate mental/physical stimulation, she is understanding better that not all dogs like to rough house yet for her, that is her preferred way of playing.

She has also has had to learn that when other dogs have had enough playing her way, to let them be. She can still be persistent in wanting them to continue playing yet positively corrects beautifully.

She is a giant puppy in her playing yet, when we are out and about in public, her manners are impeccable from leash to obedience. She will stand or sit or even lay down patiently and calmly while I am talking to people or buying things etc.

She is very quiet overall. She does get excited when I come home, first get up or at feeding time yet, I have no complaints with her adorable sounds or the occasional bark.

She is crate trained and is excellent to wash, brush and do ears plus nails.

She has minimal anxiety these days when she comes to work with me – the day of her grooming, no one knew she was even there she was so quiet! – and zero when we leave the home.

Extremely proud of this stunning beauty!

In that right matched personality fit home, she shall continue to receive all of the positive balanced reinforcement, attention and stimulation that she requires to continue to thrive.

She will only go to a home that is very dog experienced – not necessarily experienced with Standard Poodles or Saint Bernards – yet, very dog experienced. This means having owned way more than one or two Dogs in ones past.

She is brilliant and beautiful and she can go to a home that works full time, part time, works from home or is retired or semi-retired. Another amazing versatile BHRR dog!

She will not go to a home that will not help her reach her full potential. This girl needs a ‘job’. She is not high energy, she is just so wonderfully intelligent with a WOW personality that has many gifts to share with others.

She is low maintenance to us in our home yet, to some she could feel like a lot of dog. She has a lot of amazing personality!

She is strong and that has nothing to do with being dominant. She is a thinker and can be both independent and delightfully dependent as we have taught her to feel comfortable on her own four feet and with herself.

She can go to a home with children no less than 13 and as much as we would love to see her in a home with at least one right matched personality fit dog, we would consider her being an only dog as long as said home had a strong doggie network in place for her. She is so social with both people and dogs.

Re: cats, she has not had any issues with the clinic cat where I am presently working yet, she is still very young and a cat could perhaps feel a bit overwhelmed should Miss Mollie want to play rough. Miss Mollie has never hurt anything during her time with us. She just throws herself right into play and can forget how strong or big she is.

Quite the contrast when she is not playing. She is then a model lady! Genteel and perfect.

Even Sean has reluctantly come over to the ‘dark’ side of thinking poodles are not so bad after all. He will deny it in public though!

Thank you’s once more are sent to Groomingdale’s in Stittsville for helping her to look her best. She is just gorgeous. That right matched forever loving home will stay on top of her grooming needs so that she is always looking her best!

For anyone interested in being considered for her, please do read her thorough detailed individual blog – she will need a Quant 6 blood test in the spring per said blog as a reminder – plus our adoption processes, policies and procedures prior to submitting an application to the members of the BHRR BOD.

She is such a ham! You did it Miss Mollie! You did it!

BHRR’s Miss Penelope, The Newf
ADOPTED!

First family photo!

Thank you so much again to this wonderful family in taking the time to go through our extremely thorough adoption adoption process and welcome once more to the BHRR Family!

This home is what any rescue group could feel so blessed to have as part of their village. They are genuine, caring and we know that Miss Penelope shall have nothing but the very best for her following life chapters.

Miss P. has a ‘big’ brother kitty named Sid and I loved him! He is such an awesome handsome Senior!

R/q rescue is hard, extremely hard to do it the right way and the rewards come when dogs such as Miss Penelope who have had horrible past lives, are successfully rehabilitated and thrive.

The only thing almost as hard as letting one of my dogs and fosters go is seeing one of our approved Volunteers letting one of our dogs go as one of their own fosters.

It is a selfless and brave thing when a wonderful foster home helps a dog go from hell to heaven in their journeys of successful Rescue Rehabilitation through to Approved Adoption. Thank you to her beautiful foster home for all that they did to help get BHRR’s Penelope set up for success for she became a highly adoptable dog through her medical and emotional rehabilitation.

Thank you to all of the Rescue angels that stepped up and surrounded Miss P. with their generous support of words and financial assistance to enable us to help her.

BHRR’s Penelope’s journey spanned from Ohio to Ontario and she touched the hearts of many across the world!

This is just the incredible beginning for you dear Miss P., your future is as bright and as shiny as you are!

Thank you’s must also be extended to her awesome new forever loving adoptive family for the donations to our rescue and for our current online auction. Very sweet and kind and special!

I am now hunkered down in a hotel after such a brutally long day that began at 4:00 AM and will push home the rest of the way first thing tomorrow as I am back to work.

Good night wishes being sent to all of our friends, family and supporters!

This is our last community education and public awareness event of 2019!

Stayed tuned for our 12th JUST IN TIME FOR XMAS Online Auction….will be up and running tonight!

UPDATE: $360 DONATED TO DATE!

We got him!

BHRR’s Percival – 3 year old fox red Lab – was then seen at EVC. We reviewed his previous Vet Records and can confirm that proper Vet recommendations for his suspected allergies were never followed.

We had received an offensive email last night from his previous home – as he was surrendered direct to a Vet Hospital, where he was placed should have been confidential – stating that they were excellent owners and took care of all of his needs including medical etc.

This has not been the case and we now have the medical records.

At work tonight, we have begun his proper proactive/preventative vetting. We did ear cytologies and then cleaned and treated his horrible ear infections with antibiotics.

His Vet has placed him on antibiotics for his horrible bacterial skin infections – feet, between his toes, chin and head. His anus is also terribly inflamed plus raw. His Vet is hoping that the fistulas are allergy related.

His Vet has him on a special shampoo to be washed monthly for his skin.

His Vet has placed him on Apoquel for his allergies.

We also have put him on a proper fish based food to food trial him for the next 8 weeks.

We did bloodwork in preparation for his neuter for he has not been neutered. We also did bloodwork to test for Heartworm and tickborne diseases.

We shall begin to de-worm him and do a fecal. When he is healthy, we will do his vaccine protocol.

His elbows are full of hard callouses.

We are doing all of his necessary and his required Vetting.

As explained to his previous home that fired us off an email last night, so many organizations no longer step up to help owner surrendered dogs and we continue to understand why. Groups being harassed is not acceptable and this means more dogs are being euthanised as Rescues do not have the time or desire to deal with cyberbullying. BHRR takes a zero tolerance approach to such conduct.

If this dog had been adequately tended to, we would not have had to invest close to $1,000 to begin to get him healthy. This is just the beginning too for him.

He needs to lose weight – weighed 41.4 kgs tonight – and needs to gain muscle mass plus tone. The home had placed him on Trazodone as they were not getting sleep. We have taken him off of Trazodone for with the right physical and emotional stimulation, he is fine.

We were told that he was not being exercised as he should be and that one of the Owners had hip surgery in the summer and uses a cane. Yet, in having two owners, the option to use a dog walker, family, friends and/or neighbours to help etc., his physical needs could be met with a bit of planning.

He is quite chill, friendly and we bought him some squeaky toys as one of his rescue saviours said he began to play with a toy today.

He did perfectly fine around not one yet two cats between grooming at Groomindale’s at Pet Valu Stittsville and EVC. He was fine around all other dogs he has met over the past couple of days since he was surrendered too.

He will need a bit of work with his obedience yet, he is a nice boy that once he becomes healthy – with allergies managed – he is going to feel so much better and be even happier.

He was a bit nervous we were told and we were also informed as to why – he was not handled gently in his past yet, even in the time he had been with his rescue angels, he has settled incredibly well.

BHRR believes in full disclosure and we are here to stand up and speak for those who cannot do so themselves and this is what we are going to do for BHRR’s Percival.

All monies raised tomorrow at our last community education and public awareness event of 2019 will go towards his medical needs. I do wish to say that I am sorry that we will not have any Boerskin baked goodies available for sale as my day/night has been taken up with dear sweet BHRR’S Percival and also the latest with our CVO complaint investigation for BHRR’s Bane. Almost one year and it is still ongoing.

If anyone may like to drop off some baked goodies tomorrow at our event, we would be eternally thankful!!

For anyone that may like to donate to his cause you can via PayPal to gwen@birchhaven.org or via email transfer to contactbhrr@gmail.com or direct to Eagleson Veterinary Hospital 613-383-8381.

Thank you from my heart to his emerge temp fosters – Cassy & John and then Annette!

Thank you to Megan and also to Kathryn for offering to emerge temp foster him too.

From our home to all of our friends and family plus supporters, the best of good night wishes are being sent!

On my way shortly to pick up who shall be named BHRR’s Percival!

He is a special needs 3 year old fox red Labrador.

This AM, he was given a wonderful bath/grooming session thanks to one of his rescue angels – Katy.

Doesn’t he look positively adorable?!

We are still working on an emerge temp foster for him. Dear already BHRR Approved Volunteers, please let us know if you have a soft spot for him to lay his head for even just the next week. ??

I have an appointment scheduled for right after I pick him up to be seen at the Vet. We will be given a copy of his previous vet records when I pick him up which we will then review closely with his Vet.

We have learned that he had not been neutered either so we will be ensuring that this is also done as part of proactive/preventative Vet Care!

We will post an update after his Vet visit as then we will have a better idea of what we are looking for in regards to his medical rehabilitation needs.

Gentle reminder to all that have participated in our annual GIVE IT UP FOR AUTUMN Fundraiser, that it ended last night and all monies you saved can be sent via PayPal to gwen@birchhaven.org or via email transfer to gwen@birchhaven.org

AND it is not too late to donate to our 12th Annual JUST IN TIME FOR XMAS Online Auction. Sadly, we only have about 20 items donated YET to us, that is 20 more items than we once had to help raise much needed funds for the animals in need of our highly specialised programs.

Profile & Body pic post professional groom session!

One gorgeous Miss Mollie(1 year old Standard Poodle/Saint Bernard) post professional groom!

Thank you Melissa & Manon of Groomingdale’s in Stittsville!

Once again they did not want me to pay and of course I did plus left a tip!

They adored her!! She is now a well mannered girl! All of my hard work pays off when you receive such wonderful compliments re: how sweet, obedient and gentle she was. She was perfect being groomed including bathing, ears, nails, comb put and blow dry.

She was equally perfect hanging out at work all day today, not making one peep.

She will be making her special announcement shortly!

Thank you again to Cassy for dropping her off for me so that she could get to her 2 pm appointment.

When I went to pick her up, she was loose in the grooming area just relaxing while another dog was being groomed.

She was happy to see me and me her.

Miss Mollie (Standard Poodle/Saint Bernard) is off for her professional groom session today with Melissa @ Groomingdale’s in Stittsville.

After this she will be ready to make her special announcement shortly!

Thank you again to Cassy for being so kind as to drop her off for her spa session!

This is a 3 year old male uber handsome fox red coloured Labrador Retriever.

While not a Giant per say, at 40+kgs, he is a big boy and is a special needs situation.

He has allergies and his Owners were planning on having him euthanised as they were not willing to pursue further investigation/diagnostics etc. Therefore, we do not know what is the underlying cause of his allergies at this time.

We were contacted by the Vet Hospital he frequents and the home ended up agreeing to surrender him to the Hospital over having him put to sleep.

He is said to have no other issues/concerns and is a really nice boy and that is why the Hospital fought hard to see him saved.

ETA is Friday November 22nd and we are still working on an approved temp foster home for him.

AND he shall be in need of a special Secret Santa ALL of his very own if anyone may like to step up.

AND please do not forget about our annual ‘GIVE IT UP FOR AUTUMN’ Fundraiser whereby all funds shall come to help BHRR’s Kenai, the special needs German Shepherd in our care. Yes, we will be posting another update on him shortly.

Donations to his continued care can continue to be sent via PayPal to gwen@birchhaven.org or via Email Transfer to gwen@birchhaven.org or direct to Eagleson Veterinary Clinic 613-383-8381

We are also still very much in need of Auction items for our 12th Annual ‘JUST IN TIME FOR XMAS’ Onlline Auction.

From our home to all of our friends, family and supporters, good night wishes are being sent!

BHRR’s Miss Silly Tilly!
ADOPTED!

I really love this picture……their first family photo!

Today, I let go of my 419th Foster. AND, it was no easier than the first foster I had….yet, I could not be more happy….mostly!

Some may recognise that handsome BBBBB as being one of our BHRR Puppy Pile x 7 BHRR’s Ross(now lovingly known as Gatsby). He was adopted October 2nd, 2016 and this is the first time I have see him since he was adopted as a wee puppy.

Seeing him again, I could see all of the continued similarities to his siblings AND I also got to ask questions about BHRR’s Slate(now lovingly known as Bowie) who was adopted by a first cousin of this home also in 2016. He is still a big boy that is that lazy ‘slug’ we all knew and cherished!

Just like his siblings, Gatsby still likes to toss himself, shoulder down first on the ground, he has the same front little toes as his sister Cookie Dough Dynamo too! Every pup in the litter has kept those soul touching eyes!

It made my heart so warm to see how good he looks…He is nice and lean and as sweet plus soft as he always has been.

AND now, the once wee pup gets to be a big brother! He LOVED BHRR’s Tilly – she is going to make him work for her affection as that is the princess inside of her loving all of the attention!

It was a long round trip drive, almost 8 hours yet, we will continue to adopt to our already approved BHRR homes and drive the distance as it is so worth it!

BHRR’s Tilly will have a magnificent life and now has two ‘big brother cats’ too – they, are not going to be so enamored with her for a wee bit I think!

I cannot thank this wonderful home enough for considering to adopt from BHRR once more. They were open and mentioned that they had looked at several organizations to adopt from this time around and decided to come back to BHRR as they support what we do.

As told to them and I say so often, I think it was great that they researched other groups and I will always support anyone adopting from a r/q organization, regardless if it is BHRR or not AS that means a great dog ends up in a great home and the rescue can then help another in need.

With so many fantastic groups out there, that this home came back to BHRR, touches our hearts.

The unfortunate part is that there are far more disreputable groups than quality ones out there and as someone that has been operating BHRR for close to 24 years, I remain strongly recommending to anyone who is thinking about adopting, research the groups, ask your questions, be assured that you are adopting from a great program that works to do right by each and every animal in their organization!

BHRR’s Miss Silly Tilly, long gone are your days in feces, mud, urine being kept outside in deplorable conditions with virtually no shelter and lacking proper love along with Vet care.

Even back then, it was clear to see how amazing of a temperament she had.

Since her arrival, she has become super healthy, packed on the much needed muscle mass and weight and has learned a few manners!

She is going to be dearly missed by her BHRR and Boers’ Family – I especially have one super sad almost 5 month old IS – yet, as told to this amazing home, we must continue to work to adopt out those that we can and safe haven those that need us the most.

She would always have a home with us if she had not ever been adopted and she will always be kept in our hearts.

Before I left, I told her how proud I was of her, how much I loved her and how happy I was for her……only a few sniffles on the way home.

I left her with a brand new collar, her pretty pink leash I got for her shortly after her arrival and a Shedrow dog coat. Pinks and Purples look smashing on her.

CONGRATULATIONS to all!

On that note, it has been a super long day and back to work for 8 days straight as of tomorrow…so from our home to all of our friends, family and supporters, the best of good night wishes are being sent!

BHRR’s Miss Silly Tilly & I are on the road heading to her home-visit for a possible approved adoption.

The roads are not pretty so we are going slow and steady and we will update as we can!

BHRR’s Miss Penelope is moving under a PENDING ADOPTION!

We shall update as we can.

I have always loved this photo taken by her temp foster Mama. Very relaxed and snoozy! ??

BHRR’s Winter Wonderland
November 11th, 2019

As always, they thrive best with consistency, structure and routine and are ‘on alert’ waiting patiently for Kinsley to come home from school. That time of day!

THAT we are currently receiving 15+cms of snow and it is a snow day, does not cross their minds!

AND there is always one or two that march to their own drum – Summit (Deaf/Blind) & Salt (Deaf/Visually Impaired) are the only SMART ones, realising that Kinsley is actually in the house and are facing the house!

Nothing wrong with their noses and they have excelled with their scent training!  Summit & Salt win in knowing exactly where Kinsley is!

A great day for fun filled snow play and now all are crashed out by the fireplaces having nice snoozes!
