ADOPTED!!!

As the home was having trouble with one of their vehicles on Tuesday, BHRR’s Prince Eggo Belfast’s adoption was pushed to today.

As I had been at their home twice last fall and, dropped off and picked up BHRR’s Prince Eggo Belfast for an extended weekend playdate, and, that the home had already adopted twice now over the years from us(this IW makes #3 adoption from BHRR from this home), I was open to meeting them halfway for the approved home to then bring him back to their place.

So, as we met in a very cold parking lot of Timmie’s…..no ‘fam’ photo done and the one member of their home was not there either.

YET, here is a short video posted below that I took of BHRR’s Prince Eggo Belfast when I had him at PetSmart not that long ago. GOING to sure miss this boy!!!

He is the 18th, Irish Wolfhound that BHRR has assisted over the last year, 17 were purebreds and 1 mix, BHRR’s Goliath.

BHRR has been rescuing, training and owning Irish Wolfhounds for almost 26 years now. We are the oldest established r/q group out there in our area that has been doing so. Sadly, this is a breed that we are starting to see some serious exploitation with, so please do EMAIL us, if you know of a Wolfie in need. Like all breeds, they are not meant for just anyone.

Due to the poor weather storm system, I did not make the drive to meet his new forever loving approved adoptive home. 🙁

We are trying to reschedule for Tuesday. 🙂

AND…..we have a date!! BHRR’s Prince Eggo Belfast is leaving is to go to his new forever loving adoptive home on January 5th, 2014!!

Yay! He will be our first official adoption of 2014!!

BHRR’s Belfast, I shall miss you tons!!!

2013 saw 13 amazing BHRR doggies adopted.

BHRR’s Prince Eggo Belfast has moved to an ADOPTED STATUS!

YAY! YAY! YAY! He will be staying with us through the holidays, and, his SS will be headed with him to his new forever loving home in 2014 as the busy Holiday season is fast approaching and, at their own request.

The approved home had met him several times and even, had a weekend play date with him and it was just meant to be. This amazing home, is dear to us already for a number of reasons and just tickled, beaming and so happy! Their news to share though as to the big reveal…..

As the official adoption will not take place to 2014 and, we are fast coming up to our annual shut down period – this weekend for we do not believe in adopting over the holiday season – he will be our first adoption of 2014!!!

BHRR's Prince Eggo Belfast is NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

WTG! He is a 5 year old IW(5 in August).

He is a bomb proof boy…he rocked the Pet Expo in November, the 10th and, not a dog, person that he did not get along with! He even loved the pot belly pig(gosh! Her name eludes me) and, loved plodding behind her! 🙂 He is a bomb proof boy.

He is housebroken, he is 100% trustworthy in the home, great in the car and has a LONG way with those seasonal allergies and food allergies.

He is down to 50 mgs of Pred EOD(Every other day) and is eating FROMM Salmon. He will eat the Whitefish yet, can be more picky. He has some wet mixed in of appropriate wet.

For a dog that had been fed human garbage, it was a bit of a struggle to get him to finally eat yet, we are there!

He can go to a home that works ft, pt, semi-retired, retired, works from home etc.

He can be the only dog in the home or with another like-minded dog. He should not be in a home with younger dogs – he is playful in his own way yet, is past all the puppy antics. I would love to see him in a home whereby there is another dog that shall continue to teach him to be a 'dog' and emerge more and more into the great dog he really is inside and coming out bit by bit!

He has great leash manners and you just have to ensure that 'he knows that you know that he knows he has manners' 😉

He knows sit and down and give a paw and give the other paw and turn around and stay and so much more! 🙂 Just a gem!|

BHRR's Belfast – November 10th, 2013

NOTICE:

BHRR does not adopt out during the XMAS season due to our position that it is not in the best interest of any new addition being added during such a busy, exciting and somewhat stressful time for many.

Quite a few other Rescues, Shelters, Pounds etc. have also begun to follow a similar protocol to what we have been doing for so many years.

Our XMAS Shutdown period for this year is from Saturday December 14th, 2013 to Tuesday January 7th 2013 inclusive.

During this time, BHRR is available 24/7 as always for requests for assistance of animals in need.

Thank you for your continued understanding – The BHRR Team

Our 6th ANNUAL 'JUST IN TIME FOR XMAS' Online Auction HAS started! 🙂 We NOW have 87 items posted – LINK BELOW – and more to come daily! This is not a facebook auction. As we have supporters not on fb, we use a wp plug-in app on our home website.

YOU have to go visit daily to see just what is there! 🙂 THANKS to all that have donated so kindly, generously and the animals thank you too! 🙂

The BHRR Auction began at 7:00 AM EST on Saturday November 23rd, 2013.

The BHRR Auction will end at 9:00 PM EST on Thursday December 5th, 2013

Keep BHRR's Prince Eggo Belfast in your thoughts!! His next follow-up is tonight!!

From Friday October 18th to Sunday November 3rd, 2013 inclusive, BHRR will not be open for adoptions or the intake of adoption applications.

We do not adopt out around the Halloween season and many others Rescues, shelters, pounds etc. have also begun to follow a similar protocol.

We do not believe it is in the best interest of the animals in our program, especially for dark coloured dogs.

During this time, BHRR is available 24/7 as always for requests for assistance of animals in need.

What was sent my way as an update on this IW…..

“Hey X, we received an Irish wolfhound for euthanasia on Friday.  X spoke to the guy and got info–I spoke to him and said I will find a place for the dog.  Joy and I found a rescue–the same person who has taken many of our dogs–Birchhaven–great place.  I put the dog for surgery on Saturday but wasn’t done.  PLEASE see if it can be done on Monday–Tuesday at the latest–he is leaving on Wednesday or Thursday.  Birchhaven is a proven rescue and an amazing rescue so the dog is going there. The dog has a serious skin issue that could be chronic that’s why brought in for euth.  Dr. examined the dog on Friday, put him on antibiotics and vaccinated him.  I told her I want to get the dog fixed so she said NOT to put the dog on cortisone until after the surgery and the wound has properly healed. “

What I received today:

“Hi Gwen,
Hope all well.
I have a sandy colored Wolfhound, male, unsterlized, 5 year old boy for rescue only.
He was brought in for euthanasia.  Owner says dog has severe allergies that they feel is seasonal (May-October).  Dog chewing his feet.  Cardiac good, tarter II all around good heath except skin and mainly feet.
The dog was apparently purchased from a breeder (unknown).
He gets along well with cats, dogs and people.
Breed the dog recently with someone in Ottawa.
Cannot sterilize and give cortisone at the same time.
He is a good boy and for this reason the shelter is seeking a rescue, and they were very specific about contacting you and only you. (You are loved it appears..:)).
If you are interested, please let me know.  Also, based on your experience:  Do we vaccinate this dog?  Do we sterilize?  The vet says that she cannot give cortisone and sterilize at the same time…
What is your advice for the above.
Please note:  the owner was very intent on not sharing breeder information nor was he giving any vet work up.  So basically we have to go by with what we have.
Please let me know if this boy interests you.  If so, what medically do you want done.  We do not want to further his discomfort and want to do what is best for him.
Thanks”
