BHRR’s Mr. Alabar – ADOPTED!

443 times I have fostered since 1996 & have had said dog or horse be adopted. This does not include all of the Haven animals I have had the privilege of safe harbouring for their lives.

Last night I saw number 444 adopted. BHRR’s Albar.

Letting these amazing creatures go does not and has not gotten easier over the years.

August 3rd, 2022, I was contacted about a Litter of Labx pups – those that had survived(6), that were found with their deceased mama under a tractor. They were just days old. I stepped up immediately, yet did not get them until late on the 3rd. The person who had wanted to sleep as they were tired – 16 hours….the longest wait of my life.

We believe their birthday is July 23, 2022 or thereabouts.

Someone had picked them up and was trying to tube feed and see if one of their own dogs would nurse.

When I got them, they has lost their suckle reflex, and several were in extreme poor condition. They had aspiration pneumonia, severe dehydration etc.

I spent no less than 12 hours working to get their suckle reflex back and also held the one wee girl in my arms, bathing her in my tears as she lost the fight. Time has no meaning when it comes to loving. I still think of her often….she passed away at 8:49 AM August 4th and I refused to get rest until I got all puppies suckling…..they were all going to die if I could not get them to feed.

I called them my Beans. Each one had a nickname from warrior bean to fighter bean to explorer bean.

Mr. Albar was Mr. Warrior Bean. He had a horrific injury on his one back leg, and the battle began to save it. Bottom line, if it had to be amputated, we would…yet we wanted to try and save it. He has the brutal scarring to this day, yet we did save it, and he does not even have a noticeable limp any longer.

Mr. Albar was the last bean to be adopted. This happened last night December 15th.

Per a previous post only two applications have been submitted for him for adoption. He is such an amazing boy and the BBD syndrome is a very real thing.

His manners are impeccable, fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, dewormer regularly, monthly flea/tick/hw meds, yearly bloodwork, housebroken and it has still taken years for a right matched forever loving home to find him.

I have been patient and have had armchair quarterbacks saying ridiculous things regarding why I still had him, yet I have always stated, the dogs will be approved to be adopted to a right matched forever loving home or shall remain adored as part of my heart and home for life.

R/q rescue is not about the numbers. It is about the quality and to say there is a massive hole in my heart and home letting Mr. Albar go is an understatement.

They are all special….some just touch you a wee bit differently.

I am so happy for him…I am just sad for myself yet his adoption will see his nominal adoption fee go towards Mr. Dimitri’s urgent surgery tomorrow. Mr. Albar will help another with his adoption fee.

I never do the bare minimum for the dogs – this litter was over $35,000 – as they deserve the absolute best.

Mr. Albar you are missed by me and all of your friends in my home and community and you did it!! So proud….of all of my Beans.

On a side note, if anyone is open to offering a wonderful Saint a foster home, see previous post, please do email contactbhrr@gmail.com

BHRR remains small and mighty thanks to those strong links on our chain of success – YOU! The supporters and fans of the animals, who believe in BHRR as much as I do.

Thank you!

A bittersweet post to be making….

Could not get a great photo of his new family – yet he has two senior female kitty siblings now(15 & 17) and a 2 year old chocolate Lab Sister.

I also ensured that his new family got his secret Santa pressies(thank you Barbara & Alex)
There are still four outstanding secret Santa’s. Please do try to get to me by the end of this week. I need time to get them to their fosters!

If you can no longer be a secret Santa, please do let me know ASAP so I can re-post a request.
