Tonight, BHRR did approved adoption #428!

BHRR’s Mr. Maxwell – the ~10 year old Boxer

We are small, mighty, and after almost 26 years of rescuing in these trenches, another amazing doggie is in their forever-loving adoptive home.

We have never focused on the adoptions at BHRR, always worked to focus on assisting the next in need of us, and if they are deemed adoptable, great; yet, we are committed to them for the rest of their lives regardless.

With our Haven program being enormous compared to our adoption program – so many dogs that need safe harbour for their lives – it is really special, and a bit bittersweet when a dog is placed into a right-matched forever loving adoptive home. Truly a lovely feeling overall!

Thank you to Leanne Berard McDonell plus Cameron for assisting me on this home visit to make it official.

As is often said, the best kind of fail is a FOSTER Fail!  Yup! BHRR’s Mr. Maxwell’s wonderful foster home submitted an application to be considered as his right-matched forever loving home…..AND they are!

Mr. Maxwell, I am extremely happy that you remember me, and seeing you again brought me so much joy!

I am very thrilled that you have a doggie plus kitty sisters, and I am equally delighted that you bring many great smiles to the faces of your humans.

You have overcome much in your life, and since you arrived into rescue, you were promised that you would never lack for anything, that you would only know kindness, love plus joy. That you would always receive the best in care.

You are an exceptional boy. A personality that is incredibly charming with eyes that reach to your soul. You are simply magnificent, and it has been an honour being here for you. How could we not mention how unbelievably handsome you also are!

We are excited to see how you continue to settle in plus anticipate with such joy the future chapters of your life.

We adore you Mr. Maxwell………

Congratulations to all!!!

After much discussion, Sean & I made the decision to place Mr. Maxwell up for adoption.

After extensive rehabilitation with vetting, and amazing exposure plus time with his wonderful foster home, he is now a very happy, healthy Senior.

While we are committed to him for life, we can remain that way in a right-matched forever loving adoptive home. We stand by our dogs for their lives.

With that being said, Mr. Maxwell is moving under a PENDING ADOPTION!

We shall update as we can!

This stunning photo was taken by his fantastic foster home!

Thank you to Just Paws for reaching out to us asking if we could assist him…he is an absolute dream and gem of a boy!

BHRR Doggie News Update!

The picture is of Mr. Maxwell sunbathing!  So freakin’ handsome.

1) Mr. Maxwell had a repeat urinalysis on Wednesday, October 13th has he had begun to have some inappropriate urination episodes. Nothing alarming was noted, yet his vet elected to put him on Zeniquin in case he has bacteria in his prostate(he was neutered late in age) that is causing issues. Additionally, with how brutal his past has been with UTI’s, his vet wanted to be cautious.

The home is working to ensure that he is in a SA free enabling environment too to assist in dealing with any behavioural causes of the urination accidents.

2) Mr. Brutus had his own recheck the same day – He remains on Apoquel 16 mg SID, his antibiotics have been switched to Amox-clav from the cephalexin he had been on for a month as his skin had stopped responding.

His eye medications have also been switched up again as his eye infections have also stopped responding to his previous meds.

His ear infections seem to be responding ‘ok’ at this time to the medications.

He has been putting on the weight plus muscle and WOW, what a gorgeous boy in temperament plus behaviour. We see no reason once he is healthy, why he could not be placed up for adoption.

3) Miss Jamila – she went into heat October 2nd – so unfortunate that she was so ill when she arrived as she would have been spayed that first week of September. This puts her at continued high risk of pyo and mammary cancers.

Her ears and eye infections continue to be treated, and thanks again to Carol Bruck for her donation to have Miss Jamila be Miss August in the 2021 Calendar being so generously put together by Katherine Bruck!

Last I heard there were still two calendars available for sale – Katherine will have to confirm this though.

4) Gwen is also working hard on Miss Rosie, the special needs redbone/black/tan houndx – Gwen has been in touch with the O., and working on getting her into our rescue on Thursday.

5) Mr. Rocket’s big announcement has been delayed as he had a seizure episode the night of Saturday, October 16th. He had not had anything prior nor has he had anything since.

6) Mr. Romeo remains soon to be making his own special announcement.

This past week saw over $2,100 in vet bills accumulated, and may this next week not be as expensive.

Someone seems to love ‘lap time’ when it is morning coffee time at his wonderful foster home!

Mr. Maxwell!

We are now ALL on the bed!

Now at least sitting on his bed!

We are with this handsome dude today!

His fabu foster fam is hosting us for our latest nail trim/ear cleaning fundraiser!

We are at 37 Dressler Drive in Kanata until 4 pm today!

Mr. Maxwell much preferred to snooze in the dirt over the dog bed that was readily available!

Thank you’s being extended once more to Amanda Allen, her lovely husband along with their most adorable 7-month-old daughter Wren for hosting us today!

Wren stole my heart!!

Thanks to their kindness and the generosity of the community, a WOW $184.85 was raised which included $27.40 in Empties!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

BHRR’s Maxwell and his wonderful foster mama came out to visit, and he had a manicure/pedicure done by me!

Next weekend is our last driveway nail trim/ear cleaning events of 2021.

With your caring continued support, we plan to be back to a driveway near you again in 2022 – for our third year!

Mr. Maxwell!

Thank you to his wonderful perma-foster family for taking such amazing care of him!

AND no, I do not see a dog on a couch!

Mr. Maxwell, you deserve all of the best things in life!

Mr. Maxwell!

He was at the Vet for a recheck on August 28th.

He weighed 34.4 kgs(75.68 pounds).

We did a FNA on the one lump – a lipoma is what it is.

The other two growths are melanomas.

We did a repeat UA – infection is still present yet, slowly resolving – and the Vet has extended his Amoxicillin another two weeks once this round of antibiotics ends.

His head tilt is not yet explained and it has been confirmed that he does have some neuro deficits.

So, today, he went to his foster home and while our intent is to have him perma-fostered, his Vet did fall in love with him as did his daughter who is back from school. His wife is not yet ready for another dog – they have owned boxers for decades – AND that is ok!

He is such a sweetheart and having him in our own home this past while made us miss Mr. Potterman, Boxer extraordinaire!

Got him!

Mr. Maxwell and I are now making the drive home.

Thanks again to Tamee/Jane plus Kara of Just Paws for all they did for him!

Thank you to Rachel for meeting up with me to get him closer to us!

What a handsome old soul!

BHRR’s Maxwell could use some support!

He has begun to urinate more frequently once again and is drinking a lot. He finished his round of antibiotics a week ago.

We have him heading into the Vet via his current foster on Monday.

We will do a repeat Urinalysis, send urine off for culture & sensitivity, and do a blood glucose test.

This is the ~10-year-old boxer that was abandoned in a building and found starving, plus was treated for HW by the wonderful rescue that first took him in.

We were approached to see if we would consider bringing him into our rescue, and he is the sweetest boy!

Donations made to his care can be made via PayPal to gwen@birchhaven.org or via email transfer to contactbhrr@gmail.com

AND he could also use your best wishes!

We have a date for BHRR’s Maxwell(Max)’s arrival!

He is the ~10 year old Boxer(possiblex) that was found abandoned and starving in a building, and diagnosed to be HW+.

He was treated for heartworm, and now most recently for an UTI.

We were reached out to by a wonderful r/q rescue to see if we could do a rescue transfer to us.

Thank you to Jane, Tamee of Just Paws for being there for him!

AND thank you to Rachel for assisting us with transport to get him closer to us on August 19th!

Look how handsome he is?!!!

Max AKA BHRR’s Maxwell is heading our way sometime after August 16th.

We sincerely hope that BHRR’s Percival’s pending adoption can be completed by then with COVID restrictions finally being lifted.

We most likely will require transport assistance and when things fall into place more, we will be able to post.

For those who did not see our first post re: him:

He is an ~10 year old Boxer(possible x).
*He was found in an abandoned building, starving and Heartworm positive.
*He has been treated for heartworm and has been residing in a lovely foster home with a great r/q rescue who has now reached out to us for assistance.
*This foster home has adopted from this rescue in the past and this is their first time fostering. They are feeling a bit stressed at this time as 1) while Max is no longer marking when they are home, he appears to be doing some urinating when they are away from the house (he is now on antibiotics for an UTI) and 2) he is pushing to have love/attention. He is a Boxer!

We have been told that he is great with dogs – have a video and he is still active! – and also cats. He does not resource and does have a bit of a head bobble. Cause not yet known and may never know.

He is a sweet handsome older gent that needs a safe place to lay his bones and to be giving caring kind hands of love!

He deserves what remaining time he has left to be of nothing but the best!

Thank you to Just Paws (Tamee & Jane) for all that they do! It is a real privilege to help!

We would love to bring him in – we are hoping to finally be able to move on BHRR’s Percival’s approved adoption over the next week or so(Thanks COVID!)
