I have decided to start this page so that people can be made aware of why BHRR exists and what we deal with on a daily basis.
When you have an animal, it is YOUR responsibility to do ‘right’ by them and it is a life time commitment made to them that should consist of love, patience & kindness on top of the essentials of proper proactive/preventative Vetting, training, food, water and a soft warm place to rest their head when sleeping.
If you are thinking about adopting a BHRR animal, please note that the Board of Directors of BHRR’s responsibility and commitment is to ensure that THEY, the Animals never end up in such a physical and emotional state ever again, killed or back in Rescue.

*I have to be very honest and say that in reading what little was sent my way about Shamrock, that it just about made me crumple to my knees in sheer anguish over what he had gone through. I just literally wept in utter helplessness, anger, frustration and absolute pain over what happened to him. Poor Shamrock did not survive. Lady
This is Lady. While her heart and will to survive was huge; her poor body had been so starved that it gave out on her.

This Adult Male Great Dane, thought to be 2-3 years old came in weighing just 61 pounds. He had been severely neglected and the owner did not even care enough to even name him. The story on him is that his original owner was called into the service and left. He left the poor dog tied in the backyard on a very heavy chain with no food or water to die. A family member went by to check the house to make sure all was still well and found the dog in the back. He is emaciated and he also has a severe infection in his left front knee, it is very swollen and painful. He has rainrot on the edges of his ears causing his ears to rip and bleed very easily. He may also have hip problems, but we are waiting to see if good nutrition and care will improve that. The agent that brought the dog to this Vet Clinic could not afford the medical attention he needed. She requested euthanasia and the Clinic convinced her to sign him over to them. He had a severe case of hooks and whips + was Heartworm positive on the low antigen level of an Idexx Snap test. He was also severely emaciated and weak. They began Panacur x3 days for his intestinal parasites and administered his first dose of HeartGuard for the Heartworm.
