*Pictures are not only of my kids/dogs. Many have sent photos to BHRR to demonstrate clearly how great dogs & children can be together!*

**When people have children, sometimes the family pet can be forgotten about, abused, destroyed, dumped, neglected or sent to a Rescue, Pound or Shelter. Kids & Dogs can be just beautiful together if everyone is prepared plus take the necessary steps in ensuring success for everyone in the home. However; CHILDREN & DOGS should never be left alone no matter how much your might trust them!

ACCIDENTS can and do happen.

You are only setting your children plus any beloved pet up for possible failure if you leave them unsupervised.

If you would like assistance in introducing a new baby or a new pet to your home of existing children or are expecting a baby; please do contact us. Gwen is a Certified/Qualifed Behavouralist/Trainer with a Master's in Psychology specializing in Animal/Child Development plus Behavour. She is presently working on her Ph.D in the same discipline.

This page is dedicated to the SUCCESS of how beautiful dogs & kids can be together. More successes will mean less dogs in shelters, pounds, rescues, being abandoned and put to sleep. Thanks to everyone to date that has sent us pictures to post! A picture can truly say a thousand words!!!!

IF you have a 'success pet/kid' picture and would like to share it with others that visit the BHRR site; please feel free to contact Gwen

HELPFUL HINTS TO REMEMBER AS PARENTS AND TEACH YOUR CHILD(REN)

Family Dog
NEVER disturb a dog who is sleeping, eating, or caring for puppies.
NEVER pet a dog, even your own, without letting him see and sniff you first.

Dog WITH Owner
Children must always ASK PERMISSION from the owner and their parents BEFORE petting any dog.
If the owner CANNOT control the dog and have it SIT nicely for the child to pet, SAY THANK YOU AND WALK AWAY

Dogs in their own yard
NEVER approach a dog who is confined behind a fence, within a car, or on a chain.
NEVER TEASE any dog by poking at them through fences or car windows or reaching your arm through to pet them.

Dogs WITHOUT an owner
NEVER approach a dog you don't know or a dog who is alone without his owner.
NEVER RUN away from any dog chasing. STOP, STAND STILL, REMAIN CALM, ARMS AT YOUR SIDES, DO NOT SCREAM, AND WALK AWAY SLOWLY FACING THE DOG BUT NOT STARING AT THEM
If a dog attacks, "feed" him your jacket, purse, bicycle, or anything else that you can get between you and the dog.
If you are attacked, STOP, CURL UP IN A BALL LIKE A TURTLE, COVER YOUR HEAD WITH YOUR ARMS AND HANDS
