Ross Great Danes
*Excellent Standard of Reputable/Quailty Great Danes*
Ross Great Danes is dedicated to my ‘family’ of Great Danes which includes our show plus therapy Great Danes. I want to thank my husband Sean in helping me come up with our ‘Great Dane’ name! ‘Ross’ is my maiden name and in honour of my beloved father, Gordon Mowat Ross who passed away due to Cancer on September 14th, 1983. On this page, you shall find ‘Ross Great Danes’ of present.
In the fall of 2006; Gwendilin entered the world of dog showing and in June of 2007, she finished her very first show dog, CH. Dyce in just 7 months; a natural eared Harlequin Great Dane. They accomplished something very special(research reveals that they are the first in Canada to do this); as Gwendilin was a first-time show dog owner/handler with a natural eared Harlequin dog and he was exclusively owner/handled to his CH. title. CH. Dyce was neutered in September of 2007 without ever being bred per Gwendilin’s very clear intentions from when she first began showing that he would never be bred. Her second show Great Dane; a Blue; Multi CH. Bronson entered the ring at the end of 2007 and became a Champion in May of 2008 in just 5 months of showing. Her third show dog, a 100% European bred blue Great Dane, CH. TAIN is also a proven Champion having finished his first championship title at 14 months of age in October of 2009. Her fourth show dog; a mantle dog; shall be arriving in the fall of 2010 and high expectations being held for him.
Gwendilin strongly believes that as someone dedicated to animal welfare; she can do her part in assisting plus working together with reputable/quality Breeders to ‘preserve’ the Great Dane Breed standard by showing/handling/competing with the dogs to various titles and thereby also gaining added confirmation of true temperament plus conformation of Breed Standards.
Gwendilin feels that just because a Great Dane earns his/her Championship is no reason to be bred. While she is a long ways off in producing her first litter(Danes are also DNA tested for legal documentation); at Ross Great Danes, any animal that might ever be considered to be bred must earn not just one Championship Title yet must earn titles at both ends of their names to best be proven in the pillars of the Great Dane Standard as she terms it. Those pillars are Conformation and Temperament plus the added pillars required are Health testing and breeding for Longevity. Equally important is breeding per the Colour Code of Ethics.
Reputable/Quality Show Breeders breed to not only preserve the Great Dane standard yet they are constantly working hard at improving their own lines. They will stand by their dogs, be a resource 24/7 and take any of their dogs back should a home not be able to keep them. Gwendilin is also involved in Clubs(GD Club of NY & CMC) plus Rescue(founded BHRR) and believes that this is extremely important.
Gwendilin shows CKC(Canadian), AKC(American), IABCA(International) and CFC(Canine Federation of Canada). She also puts on CGN(Canine Good Neighbour - Canadian) and/or CGC(Canine Good Citizen - American) titles on her dogs plus TDI(Therapy Dog). She will also be branching into Obedience titles shortly.
